  • For certain people good thing...but...what about intonation?culture of sound? When I listen it for 2 minutes the characteristic sqeaky sound at the begining of each note is killing.Sorry it put me off.It is modern, light, cool, and recyclable?

  • dear graham lyons,

my student is seven years old and he plays the clarineo, your new version.

and he really has a problem to use the duodecime clef AND to close the thumbhole in the same time ,for producing the tones above the b flat.

what to do about this for my little student ?

    can you give an advice?

  • @hansklarinet Drie serieuze suggesties - U kunt

    1. zorgvuldig lijm een stukje kurk of rubber om het register te drukken. Het stuk moet het project boven de ring wanneer de ring open is. Of

    2. zet het type van rubber beschermer, dat wordt gedragen om te voorkomen dat de ene geprikt door naalden wanneer men naait, over de duim van de student. Of

    3. een of twee pleistertjes . Of

    4. geef de jongen groeihormoon elke dag en geef hem te eten spinazie.

  • @usefulmusic thanks for the quick answer,if you find time, repeat the answer in english, the computor translation to dutch is not too good, especially asked in english :answer number 1.

also to play low e ,my student has a too small shaped pink.

so maybe you also have an idea for THIS problem, and if not,i ll advice him indeed to eat more spinache.

maybe he must go back to the rented eb clarinet, with your mouthpiece and legere reed.

thank y gr of jos v.,also, good friend of mine

  • @hansklarinet @ hans clarinet Three serious suggestions - you can

    1. carefully glue a piece of cork or rubber to the register key. The piece should project above the ring when the ring is open. Or

    2. There is a rubber protector worn to prevent being pricked by needles when sewing. Put this protector over the boy's thumb. Or

    3. one or two band-aids over the thumb. Or

    4. give the boy growth hormone, and let him each spinach every day.

  • I have this clarinet and a thibedeau(?) C clarinet, and it was so much easier to coax confident tones out of the Lyons. Not that the other isn't capable of it... I just never picked it back up after playing my Lyons for a while.

I have to agree with the comment regarding Legere synthetic reeds, as they do indeed sound great with this instrument. It seems a good match... an innovative reed for an innovative clarinet.

  • Do You Have the Sheet Music for the last track.

  • The last piece on the clip was my improvisation on Clifford Brown's Joy Spring so there's no sheet music for it. But you're welcome to transcribe it!

    Graham Lyons

  • OMG this clarinet is so cool my thumb pains me like crazy with mine and i've already broken it once. I WANT THAT CLARINET.

  • eh, it hurts watching him drop the clarinet

  • hello where can I buy that clarinet? I know they because I am teacher and I used this clarinet few years ago, are great, but in my country there aren't.

  • I've owned a Lyons C clarinet for over about 2 years now. It's everything they advertise it to be. I take it with me to music festivals to play in the after-hours music jams in the campgrounds. I've found that Legere synthetic reeds sound great with this instrument, and are a good choice for playing in extremes of temperature and humidity.
