I'm wondering if that's my old Peavey VTM 120 that I let Jimmy borrow a couple times back in the day. I used to take lessons in the basement of his house until I got to where I felt I could do well enough to get through AIM where he also taught. He used to drive a huge Delta 88, or at least I think that's what it was, until he accidentally hit a dear with it. Anyway, I was more than happy to let him use it as I knew he'd be making much better music than I'd ever be making with it.
Holy crap... I can't believe that there's video footage from this show/album. Oh, if I could only see the whole thing! Thanks so much for posting it :)))
Watching this guy at Soul Kitchen in Mobile next weekend after Gov't Mule @ Saenger Theater, never seen either live, should be fun... and that's definitely the guy in Sling Blade
@trell23Mobile Hey dude that was my first Mule show/ Col Bruce Experience. I've seen Mule 3 times the good Col. 4 or 5 times. What a way to kick off the year right?
Hey man, let's be rational - I base my opinion on observation ... I've seen him sing well, but on guitar, well ... I feel that's his weakness. He also acts "classically" like an attention-whore (on camera). It's simply not my taste. Now on what do you base your opinion that I am an idiot?
You are talking about THE COLONEL not that kentucky fried bullshit, is it not in your taste to be entertained, the guys not gonna stand there like a bored goon, i think you're a fuckin idiot too
hi y'all, idiot here: i like to be entertained, yes, mostly by music - the visuals are less important .... The Colonel is a 'showman' - no insult - and an inspiration to many; i'm not disagreeing with that .... I'm just sayin', he's more Dickey Betts or Ted Nugent, or Robin Williams, than say, Derek Trucks ... cont.d...
Idiot...hes here to be a singer, and an authentic one. NO, hes not there to stand and act...Hes there to sing and support, as proven by when he extended the quick break close to the end by a measure. Lol.
"brrrrap...TWO!" indicating two measures instead of one.
I worked on the audio crew of this recording and the Widespread recordings the same week ... and mixed both recordings. It was as bizarre as it appears.
this is from 11/15/91 georgia theatre athens. looks like the same crew (billy bob thornton's) that filmed wsp's live video release from 91 "live from the georgia theatre." this isnt in circulation and looks like it was made just as an mtv video. if more of this exists and you have it please find somebody who can transfer it properly and do this jewel some justice. thanks for sharing
We did both with the same setup ... the same nights. All the crew were the same and Billy Bob directed both films. Billy Bob later used Col. Bruce in Sling Blade. (He is among Dwight Yoakam's friends sitting on the sofa)
Saw them w/ Tinsley Ellis opening @ The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, New Years' Eve 1990. Had never heard of them, but my buddy Rich knew them well...What an incredible show, by an incredible band. "Danced" my ass off. Apt. Q285 is an absolute beast on the drums!! Fan ever since..Thanks for bringing back a great memory.
One of the great live bands of all time...and minus Chuck Leavell on the organ, this was THE band. Those GA Theatre shows in the early 1990's smoked...but where's Roosevelt? I wish this entire show (or any other from this time) was on video. I was fortunate enough to see ARU many times, and no two shows were ever the same... but vomit guaranteed.
They all look so young! This is my favorite song on that album. I'm so glad Col. Bruce got Oteil to start playing again, not to mention leading this incredible band. And finally some Matt Mundy on youtube! More, more!!
You know there must be a video of this entire show sitting on someone's shelf somewhere. It needs to be found and released. I would pay good money for a copy. This show is an absolute classic.
yup. you're missing something. admittedly he himself may not be the greatest musician, but he has a great voice, and always surrounds himself with the worlds best unknown (at the time they join him) musicians.
ARU is my favorite band of his, and just look at where all these guys have gone since Bruce discovered them...

Billy Bob Thornton directed the video as a favor to the Colonel. This was only song he filmed, although the entire set is available on CD.

Basically very silly. Bruce= "Look at Me! Look at Me!" Great musicians surround him, no doubt ... not sure why. He's no musician, just a silly actor.
