  • Do you have a video explaining how you integrate the kinect video of yourself into the 3D render?

  • my tv shows as to images is this a good thing meaning it can do 3d?

  • is it possible to use more than 2 kinects?

  • @justin6532 Yes; my current 3D TV setup only has two (one on the left, one on the right), but more could be added. The biggest limitation is the bandwidth requirement of each Kinect vs the bandwidth ceiling of a USB 2 bus.

  • all dushebags who brags about god send earthquake to japan should see this

  • hi, the kinect camara works with infrared light. if everysingle camera you use would use a different type of light, then there wouldn't be this interferences. or am i thinking wrong?

  • @ForboJack That's correct. One of our grad students ran into some PrimeSense reps at the recent game developers' conference, and brought up that exact point. They said they'd look into it.

  • @okreylos I was just thinking that using a left-handed set of circular polarizers on one kinect and a right-handed set on the other might give some reduction in interference with minimal changes to hardware. Of course, you'll halve the signal intensity. Could try it out with film from a couple of pairs of Real3D glasses = cheap test. I don't have two kinects tho' :(

  • I was watching 3D porn, now I can't find my glasses -.-

  • Fascinating post, as usual! I was wondering if Microsoft's release of the official SDK would do anything to aid your research. Would skeletal tracking aid in your algorithms? Can you see speech or sound input playing a part in the future (maybe as a shortcut to your menu system)?

  • Keep up the great work man it amazes me and i cant wait for it to be cheap and good enough for everyone

  • This is absolutely genius

  • It would be awesome if News Networks would present the weather and earthquake news/forecasts in that way :)

People should really work on refining these 3D Technologies to make it work in commercial/enterprise environments !

  • Man this was awesome! Do I get it right that you have something like Virtual Reality glasses on to see the things we are seeing?

Oh and, are you german? Your accent sounds just like that... :)

  • Okreylos, thank you very much for posting this. It was extremely informative and interesting!

  • Seeing this from your perspective would be cool... anyway to do that?

  • You continue to impress! I can't wait to get some free time to start playing around with VRUI and your Kinect hacks. Thanks for the amazing research & open source contributions, Mr. Stark!

  • That was amazing. Could you put some more earthquake events up showing how they progressed with time?

The part at the end was incredible but unfortunately I wasn't able to view it in 3D, can you rotate the earth or something next time during the playback. Anyway, keep up the good work, can't wait until I get my kinect so I can try out some of this :)

  • @canislupusfool

set it up for side by side

    full width

    swap(left-right)

view it and cross your eyes until you see 3 images.. The center one is 3D(poor mans 3D)

  • @okreylos -This is absolutely incredible. I've seen better interactive 3D, but only from multi-million dollar systems. Never from something you can put together with a capital investment of $300 plus the cost of a decent graphics card.

    Kudos!

  • If you can do this, you're obviously capable of building an iron man suit, why not just do tha and go fight some crime!

    Your work is absolutely amazing!

  • You are the REAL Tony Stark hahahaha! \o/

  • Amazing way to show info.

    very cool.

  • this is pretty awesome,

    but one question:

why did you put the cameras directly opposite of each other?

wouldnt it be better to put them at an angle so you dont have a missing part on your face?

  • @tehdog22 They're not exactly opposite; maybe at a 160 degree angle, for construction reasons. But the seam wouldn't go away because it's primarily due to interference between the cameras. Any area that could be seen by both will not be seen by either one. In a way, making the angle smaller would make the seam bigger.

  • Hi Oliver, it s a long time, I follow always your interesting research, especially the Kinect, What about it? is there any progression about it?

  • @ysound Well, I have a new improved calibration method which is why the two halves of me match much better than before. Otherwise I'm still working on robustifying the network transmission protocol, as that's been a big problem.

  • @okreylos

If you have time, could you explain much more, i will be grateful to understand you re new calibration method

  • long time no see!!

  • @MichaelMusic1 Been busy with actual, you know, work stuff.

  • I love hearing smart people talk.

  • This is a great application of 3D technology. Awesome!

  • i see this going to what iron man had in his house.

  • AWESOME VID!

  • CYBERCYCLOPS LORD OF TIME AND SPACE

  • This is an absolutely spectacular video, sir. The presentation is fascinating (even if you are only playing a geologist on YouTube :), and the stereographic view works perfectly for me here on YouTube and looks amazing! Thanks for posting this.

  • :O

  • Nice job, looking good okreylos :P
