It's said that if quantum computers were released today, no document in the world would be so safe. It would be able to brute force crack (within reasonable time) any encryption by going through every possibility until it found a match.

All of the cooling is going towards the small surface area of the CPU, with the exhaust of the radiator fan on the refrigeration unit heating the room up. If anything, they'd be sweltering in there, not freezing.

I'm stable @ 4.2 Ghz and 1.45v on an i7 920. Upping it more doesn't seem to improve stability. I'm definitely not hitting any walls when it comes to temperature or frequency on anything on my board, and so it seems the chip simply doesn't want to go any faster.

It seems hard to believe that you managed another 1.5 Ghz on me due to nothing but an unlocked multi and slightly better cooling.

Yes I'm on water.

As I mentioned, the funny thing about the i7 is that there seems to be a hard stability wall at which point even if your temps are okay, and there are no bottlenecks anywhere else on your board, it simply won't go any faster even when cranking the voltage past where you really should. Due to manufacturing inconsistency, that point varies from chip to chip, but on water you should be able to hit 4GHZ on any board.

Using Asus rampage II extreme. Most settings are actually auto.

I'm on linux so I've never used any of the asus userspace utilities. I'm talking about voltages and memory timings set from the bios. I don't think anybody explicitly sets each and every available memory clock setting for example. Setting the voltages is up to you, but usually the only thing worth explicitly setting is vcore, and possibly qpi, dram, and IOH.
