@WATBerlin Shirley Bassey (singing "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang")? Rather, it is Dionne Warwick. DW has more softness in her voice, and the nuances here are trademark Dionne. I have both her and SB albums so I detect these.
"Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was the planned theme song for the movie, however, they had to have the name of the movie in the title so it was changed. Listen to the song at the Kiss Kiss club just before Fiona Volpe was shot. This is the song that was playing. Some of you people LEARN TO SPELL!!!! Also the "soundtrack" was not completed before the movie was released because it "had" to be out for Xmas '65.
Thunderball is one of my favorite Bond movies and maybe the best Bond movie in the 60's. Sean Connery was gorgeous. Claudine Auger is still one of the best Bond girls. Luciana Paluzzi was the 1st really bad/evil female character but very beautiful at the same time.
I also love the soundtrack from Tom Jones - great song!
This was an extra on the dvd and it was the original opening, and if they hadn't brought in Don Black at the last minute to write a lyric which contained the word "Thunderball" it would have been used and nobody would have been any the wiser. I love it, but you can't ignore Tom Jones's storming vocal of the theme song either.
I like the two versions, too great voices of Tom Jones and Dionne Warwick, but i prefer this one just because of the fact that this one has a female voice, and it gives more sensuality.
Wow the Thunderball opening with Dionne instead of Tom's vocal - waited for the singing credits to see if you changed that as well, which hadn't as it would be too much hard work. Thanks for the alternate take - loved it.
Isn't this Dionne Warwick's version of Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? I actually liked her version more then Shirley Bassey's. Both are good though but I wish this version of the song would have been in the movie.
I'm paraphrasing from wikipedia but originally they had this version in the studio but replaced it with Tom Jones's version before it was released in cinemas. They were worried that "a theme song to a James Bond film would not work well if the song did not have the title of the film in its lyrics". They then changed it back in 1990 I think.
Dionne Warwick is up herself

Rare EU version which used "Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" as the theme song instead of Jones' Thunderball.

I like the intro with Tom Jones' song, but this is even better. Shirley Bassey was singing this version, she was also the singer in "Goldfinger".

@distsh This is only the intro of this movie.
Tom Jones made a different theme dedicated to Thunderball.
Just search Thunderball theme song on youtube.

@distsh it is tom jones screw made a paradi of that song
onmask123 1 year ago
@distsh since no one has replied to your question in over two years; just thought I'd let you know that this was an
"alternate version" of the THUNDERBALL theme song recorded for the motion picture; performed by DIONNE
WARWICK. However, history shows that TOM JONES' version was the one used as the actual title track for the film.

I have this on an alternate audio track on the laserdisc, though I suspect the DVD would include it too.
