The difficulty during the 8-bit and 16-bit eras was due mostly to arcades. The games had to be short due to memory constraints, but they were also made tough, with lots of trial and error gameplay, to eat up quarters.

Nowadays, with video arcades on a steep decline, there is no need for quarter-munching games. Modern super-difficult games have since become poor sellers, like Prinny, or niche, like Persona 4. Game companies were designed to make money, and super-difficult games are money sinks.

This is incredible - this guy dies so many times, yet doesn't start screaming - I think it might have something to do with how he's got people to talk to while he does this.

Kind of makes it less fun to watch at times, though :(

To be honest I knew of Spore before EVO and I first heard the song from it from IWBTG, then a pal of mine went "hey there was an RPG sometime ago that had the similar idea to Spore" and...well there ya go.

Spore was the most overhyped game ever and it ended up being mediocre at best.
