Dave Winfield should be in right field, he had the best arm of any Padre player ever, and actually one of the all time best arms in that position. I also think Ozzie Smith should be the ss, Templeton had one season hitting above 250 and I always thought he was a bust with the Pads, and where is Ken Caminiti, he was the best 3rd baseman they ever had? The pitcher should be Randy Jones, the only two time 20 game winner for the Pads. Robbie Alomar should be at second.
I think you've gotta have Ken Caminiti at third. NL MVP in 1996, and anchor of the 1998 World Series squad. Also, I'd put Ozzie Smith at short if we're talking about all-time greats to wear a Padres jersey.
1-LF Gene Richards 2-RF Tony Gwynn 3-CF Dave Winfield 4-1B Adrian Gonzalez 5-3B Ken Caminiti 6-C Benito Santiago 7-2B Roberto Alomar 8-SS Ozzie Smith RHP Gaylord Perry LHP Randy Jones Closer Trevor Hoffman
Interesting...Gene Richards in center??? He was a very good leadoff hitter but his primary position was left field and he was horrible. Also, Time Flannery at second...Over Alomar, Wiggins, and Mark Loretta? Your choice and they are sound but Flannery is a turn coat as he went to coach for that crappy ass Giant team. Good video.
True story and sad is that Eric Show is mainly remembered as the guy who gave up the record setting hit to Pete Rose and that after that the guys life went downhill so bad they he eventually hung himself to death.
Ken Caminiti should have been their for sure...still remember game 2 to the NLDS in Houston when he hit that game tying homerun to right to send the game to extra innings. Shut that crowd in Houston the hell up, what a great memory!
@OPSportsInc um you guys are both nuts. It should be Randy Jones or Andy Benes MAAAAYBE Kevin Brown. I can agree with hitchcock for winning the mvp in 98 nlcs... but still.
center field: Steve Finley, Third Base Ken Caminiti, SS, OZZIE SMITH, 2nd Base Roberto Alomar, 1st base Nate Colbert, RF TONY MOTHERFUCKING GWYNN, Left Field, Greg Vaughn. Catcher Benito Santiago/Mike Piazza.
how u gonna use a pic of benito in a giants jersey? u have committed the ultimate sin putting nevin @ 3rd! real friar fan know caminitti was the only tru 3rd baseman sd ever had!
That's the first time I have noticed that. The photo I used has Santiago at a side profile and from that angle...the uniform looks like a modern-day Padres uniform (helmet and all). But when Santiago played for the Padres...they wore pinstripes. Nice find and my bad. In regards to Nevin and Caminiti...The Padres organization as a whole is only 40 years old and that is not very old. Dave Winfield and Tony Gwynn are their only Hall-of-Famers. So you have a good argument with Cam and Nev.
Wiggins leadoff at 2b and The Garv at 1b no doubt.

what about big ol' Kevin Brown. Before he went to the freaking dogers

Maybe the reason why Caminiti is not there is because he was on steroids. How about Steve Finley in center?

Seriously how the heck can the creator of this video not have Ken Caminit at third base. Ozzie Smith at shortstop and Roberto Alomar at second base?

ummmm... how do you not have Adrian PLaying First and Caminiti playing third

The Padres lost their identity when they got rid of the brown uniforms.

@kisscactus I liked the old yellow uniforms they had in the early '70s like Colbert was wearing.

Phil Nevin on this list is an absolute joke. Ken Camminiti had better a better year than Nevin had a career

@chapo619 that was actually Leyritz. Cammy hit the go ahead homer in game 2 against the Braves.

Phil Nevin over Ken Caminiti? Do you know Caminiti and Kevin Brown built that stadium downtown?

Then only change I would make is Randy Jones pitching. Show was fantastic I agree, but RJ was great. Good post though.

Jake Peavy should be on the mound

@mxserr Kenroid Caminiti would never get my pick bc he cheated. Steve Garvey? John Kruk? very questionable.......
