Oh honey I can hardly watch this without crying my eyes out. I have had 3 weight loss surgeries (most recent is the bypass) so I know how you feel. God bless you and keep you sweet dear. Take good care of yourself. I'm praying really hard for you right now. I experience this a few times a week. It's awful.
I feel for I had gastric bypass I had bad episodes of dumbing syndrome also they are not nice to say the least it took me ages to adapt but I found out I had some scaring in the join between the small intestine and the stomach yet the hospital and my doctors communication between them broke down and I had to go home without the trainee doctors not listening to the consultants instruction so I suffered a bit unnecessarily but I have now forgiven the docs for the mess up now
Is having too many grams of sugars or fats the cause of dumping alone? Or can the following actions cause dumping or other problems also:
-drinking while or close to eating?
-eating larger bites or portions?
-eating too quickly?
Thank you for sharing this video and your comment. Don't apologize for it's length. The length was needed to convey your point, and it's only takes a minute to read. This is very helpful for not only those who have had wt. loss surgery, but who are contemplating it.
Hi. Thanks for watching. REAL dumping is caused by too much sugar (depends on individual) and fat. Drinking during and close to eating makes you fuller and eats less, which is bad because you get hungry again quickly since the food is washed out of your pouch. No liquids forces it to stay longer. That keeps you full longer and you get more nutrients.
Large bites/portions gives a tightness in the chest that is kind of painful, but not bad. Definitely not dumping. Eating too quickly early post op caused this too. One bite too many will be felt about 5 minutes later, and by then, it is too late. Sometimes I had to throw up to get rid of it. It took me about 3 months to re-learn how to eat and how to interpret my body's signals. I learned to eat 'safe'while out and only try new things at home.
i wanted the possibility of dumping too! which is why i chose RNY instead of lapband. and i only dumped MAYBE twice in the first year... but now i dump constantly... but on stuff that's not even "bad". it's weird.
OMG Cheri, Thanks for posting this. I haven't dumped yet but I am getting a little more adventurous in my eating. Seeing this will make me rethink long and hard if I want to tempt fate.
Great Video! The comments on the side are so heart felt. I know what you mean about eating huge quantities. Sorry you have to go through this, but I understand how it will help you in the long run. You are brave. Thanks!
I have to say, that was terrifying to watch. I haven't dumped (YET!), but I'll think of this vid the next time I flirt with my sugar limitations. And I totally agree with your comments - I NEEDED this surgery and I really do believe that. Big hugs, girl.
Thanks for watching. Funny how some foods are as addictive as drugs to some of us. Luckily you won't have to endure this since you had lapband. Unfortunately, this is how I keep my addiction under control....Cheri
THank you so much for documenting yourself in such a vulnerable situation this video is going to help so many people! Im proud of you for being brave enough to allow people to see you go through this experience
I agree. There needs to be more dumping videos out there. I tried looking for them when I was pre-op to see what it was exactly. I think most post-ops dump occasionally. This was the first time that I thought about grabbing the camera.
God, dont you hate that dumping. I had two so far. its awful. I think that once you have gone through it your pouch just reminds you whos the boss. I was feeling so bad for you and what you went through. Thank you for putting it out there . Others need to know what will happen.
Wow Cheri, you are a brave woman to post this! Thankfully I've only had one dumping episode like this. But lots of less severe times. It really does suck, but it does deter you from eating the wrong things most of the time.
Wow! You rock to have only dumped like this ONCE. I just never learn!!! I dump like this about once or twice every 2 weeks. I think it is partially because my hubby is a foodie and brings it home.
I'm sorry you had to go through this but thank you for sharing it with us. I had my first (mild) experience a couple days ago and mild was bad enough to not make me ever want to go through it again. It's awful but also the reason I chose bypass rather than the lapband. I knew I needed the extreme consequences that it provides, otherwise I would have continued eating junk. Hope you're feeling better now (I'm sure you are) and thanks again.
Thank you for sharing Cheri!! That would suck. I'm three months out - still haven't "dumped" and I don't hope too. I'm scared of something off the wall making me dump - but I guess we don't know unless we try. Thanks a bunch for sharing! Take Care :)
psshhh..hell yes girl!.....i don't do everything like im supposed ALL THE TIME, lol..and oddly enough..if i eat too much fiber i dump...isn't that weird?..i swear to God!!!?....but sometimes i test my sugar limits and pay for it....xoxoxo
Yep, that's dumping alright. I am glad I have it, too, because it does keep me focused on what choices to make. Doesn't mean I always choose the right thing, but my body does remind me this way and I'm more focused because of it!
I don't know if it will last forever, but 2 years postop, yep ... I still dump. It's not a frequent thing, but if I eat just a *bit* too much sugar in something (usually hidden because I read labels like it's a religion or something), then I feel the aura starting and then I dump. I try VERY hard to avoid it at all costs, but still I'm glad that I know it's a possibility because it keeps me focused, ya know?
I found your videos quite informed.. And I'm glad you showed more detail on this issue.. Now I will know what to expect if I ever experience this after I have my rny... Hope you're feeling better... Take care keep safe always Kimberly

Hey Cheri, Our dumping ia so much alike, the same things...I feel like I am goiing to die, so mentally confused..I faved this, I also have a dumping video up some where, I hope you are feeling better now, I always fall asleep too, and feel like it is the best sleep I get EVER...I have dumped 4 times one day, lets just say I wont do those things again I have dumped of stuff that you wouldn't think you would dump on too..Bless your heart. Kristy
The reason I even made the video was because I started thinking of yours when I started dumping. I thought...my turn to document! I have been wanting to, but was afraid of the negative comments. I am glad I did it now.
Oh, Cheri! You and I are so much alike! I've had a wee little dumping once after some ice cream, but when I felt my heart start to race, I quit - but I too choose the RNY because I knew I could fail the lap band with my sweet tooth! I'm only three months out ...I hope this video burns in my brain so I'm not as tempted to try more sweets. Thanks for doing this! Hope you're all better now, and those chocolate nuts are "dumped" in the garbage can! I can't get near things like that! Hugs, Cami
Dumping Syndrome: The Dirty Secret Gastric Bypass Patients Keep
By Kaye Bailey
The most efficient way to avoid dumping:
1.) Eat protein first making sure it comprises one-half of every meal.
2.) Avoid snacking.
3.) Avoid all sources of simple sugar; and yes, this includes cookies, cakes, candy, sodas, ice cream and sorbet.
4.) Sip water throughout the day.
When you practice this eating behavior your blood sugar will not fluctuate and you will not dump.
