  • ...i can't remember how many times i have played this video....nothing else to say...

  • this brings back so many memories from the 70's

  • they want me to sing this in the church choir and im 15.....hope i can do it...its for our choir aniversary

  • oh ,mi dios...esto es hermoso.....

  • sweet sweet song

  • Superb...

  • Whoa man! This is the hit right here. So Beautiful. I aint never heard a bassline like this that keeps the beat. Beautiful.

  • some voice...

  • SIX PEOPLE COULD NOT KEEP HOLDING ON.

  • halleluYAHHHHHHHHHH

  • thank you JESUS,,,,,,,,,i'm holding on!!!!

  • The arrangment of this is awesome: pedal tone, bass holding that note, the switch to the IV @ 4:18 with the organ pumpin',....

  • what a voice

  • i vaguely remember this song now, a found gem

  • Boy can this woman sing. Aretha Franklin and Yolanda Adams and Myrna would blow away most of the female singers out here today.

  • are u serious y dont they play thid on yhe radio this song has to much power thank you

  • I'm sorry dear!

  • where on earth did you find this. This is 100% pure gospel. Thank you so much

  • Wow I didn't know this was by her. Yesterday I heard this on the radio and I told somebody it was by Aretha Franklin. Lol I feel bad now. Thx for sharing. Now I need to correct my mistake.

  • Thank you for posting this..i remember this song from way way back in the day. My daddy used to sing this over and over on Sunday Morning gospel on WAMO FM in Pittsburgh. Those days are long gone now.

No more urban gospel stations in Pittsburgh .....sold out to Catholic church.

  • AWSOME!!!!!

  • I agree with CleanteamofNY that we need a true classic gospel radio station--my momma's momma's momma's gospel music! I love the smooth melody & the simple production. Unlike some of today's "overly produced" gospel that seems too crammed with voices, instruments, computer enhancements, etc (it's like overkill), this song (like other old school sounds) is stripped of too much production, and keeps the focus on the melody and the God-inspired lyrics. This is great for meditating on the Lord.

  • may someone please search barnesinger and se my son sing

  • Awesome!

  • Simply beautiful! Great sound in front and back! The gospel truth!!!! and I thought I was geting Motown :-)

  • Damn, this almost made me start crying.....

  • wow wow wow its amazing

  • Can someone tell me how I can get a copy of this song. Please email me at peggy.jones@ymail.com. Thank you

  • Oh haven't heard this in years, we need a Gospel Station that plays true classic gospel. Not today's it's not your momma gospel station, but sure enough it's your momma, mamma's gospel station!

  • H OM E 1LOVE 1RED BLOOD 1SPIRITUAL FAMILY 1PEACE ON MOTHER EARTH

  • God thank you for her gift of vocal ministry. Ms. Myrna Summers was one of the ones that paved the way for me. Pure gospel music from a quantified voice. The organ player knows what time it is!! Yes, Lord.

  • THIS IS REALLY NICE THE LYRICS ARE DEEP

  • Wow, What a VOICE................................I forget how well she can sing.

StarBrown1, It would be lovely if you can post 'Tell It Like It' Is by Myrna Summers

  • @shittywife If only I had it... I certainly would post it.

  • is it really the same song are the lyrics the same? dosnt sound anything like the marvelettes version......................... yeah and it does sound dreary i think i would fall asleep to this sorry

  • @youngalistairyou It's two entirely different, unrelated songs. They just happen to have the same title...

  • @youngalistairyou You are already in a deep sleep, it seems. It might even be a stupor.

  • @youngalistairyou how can you critize the marvolus voice of Ms Summes... THIS IS the Original song, in the original key and original tempo... now take that little know fact from a GOSPEL broadcaster, and a CURCH organist of some 40+ years... PRAISE GOD

  • This sounds so dreary compared to the version by the Marvelettes, who added a nuch needed beat to it.

This sounds like background music in a night club that nobody really listens to

  • This song has blessed me immeasurably. Mrs. Summers is a gift from GOD and has really lifted my spirits.

  • Anointed Perfection.

  • I love this song. Thanks for posting it

  • Great Post,Thanks!Love your profile pic!!

  • This is a great song!!! Ms. Summers is so anointed and is still singing it up in the Maryland-DC area. We need to demand that we hear more from her!

  • This is classic soul.... talkin bout Holiness. I remember Temple of Deliverance singing this when I was just a little boy...

  • Now this is what I call soul music!

  • Thanks for posting this! Very comforting for what I've been going through. I'll keep holding on. God has not left me. Thank you JESUS!!!

  • Thank you for this post it has been years since i've hear this SO RICH IN GOD'S SPIRIT

  • See that's how Go reaches people you may not like religon, but when the spirit of God hits you there is nothing like it.

  • I love all my gospel artist but this song, hits home. God bless Ms. Summers.

  • superb! i'm not a religious man, but holy shit that's good!

  • Well, it's gospel (music) and you don't have to be religious to enjoy gospel. Richard Dawkins (the arch atheist) loves Bach's St Mathew Passion. Anyway, holy shit yeah, it's good.

  • Does anyone know a singer named Marlyn Whitlock from the east coast states.

  • thats a cold blooooded fro

  • I know right. The only thing that's missing is a black fist in the air.

  • @abatol I'm digging the fro, too!!! Got one myself!!!

  • this was my favorite song! Whatever happened to the organist, Jeff lavalley, i think that was his name?

  • Jeff La Valley is in Flint Michigan @ New Jerausalem Otis Floyd Pastor. He recorded a number of albums with the church. Most Notable " The Lord Is My Light", A cold blooded Organ player from jump

  • Lord, please preserve Myrna Summers. Her songs, musicianship and commitment to striving for perfection have always inspired me. I've never heard this recording before, but my church used to sing it in 1979 at our evening services. Awesome song.

  • All I can say is OMG! This was one of my top ten songs from the teen years. This song has always blessed my soul. This is real gospel music. I still love Myrna Summers and I still love the long "Hoooooooooooolding on"!

  • Thanks for uploading Myrna Summers! She was one of my most favorite artists when I was growing up.

  • Encore une voix merveilleuse....Big !

    Patoche "Bizougratuis"

  • I used to listen to this song all the time when I was a kid. I have the record. My favorite song from that album is Never The Less I Will( Through It All).

  • She's amazing

  • I've been trying to find this song for YEARS. There are 2 versions of this song. I need to have both of them. How did you get this song? Thank you so terribly much for this.

  • I have the vinyl :) This is the only recorded version of this song that I know of. I know live she fuses it with I Found Jesus; but I don't think she recorded that version. But she has recorded a lot of albums, so I could be wrong. Check Ebay, sometimes her albums are for sale.

  • @NatureGirl215 there is a version of this on her latest project (that I know of) with the Reid Temple AME Mass choir, Mountain Get Out of My Way. Its on the same track with "I Found Jesus" (#7) You can contact Reid Temple AME for a copy of the CD.

  • I tried to find her early music on iTunes...anyone know where I can get downloads..please email me...

  • Unfortunately, her early music is not available for download from any source. I would encourage you to e-mail/write/call iTunes, her old record companies, etc. and request her music be made available again.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!! Can't get enough of it

  • Again, I am new to YOUTUBE and I AM A BIG GIRL but I can sit and spread LOL and listen to this good music all day. Why are you spending over $700.00 a year for cable (you are if you are paying the average $60 a month) when this is available. Keep this music alive and thanks to those who do!

  • Do you have Part 2, with Jeff's organ solo at the end?

  • Yes I have that album feat. Jeff's Organ solo.

  • I haven't heard this is oh-so-long. It was one of my favorite recordings, growing up in Detroit. Thank you so much for uploading!

  • dope

  • NOW see this is singing and i love the hammond B52 organ in this song we use to listen to this on AM 1390 in chicago and on the milton brunson gosep hour on saturday and on clarence blairs sunday morning gospel stroll on WBMX FM 102.3 on sunday mornings I miss these days and the music that was created back then we are truly an anointed and spirit filled people our songs and i music is a staple of who we are what we are made of SPIRIT thank you for posting this song

  • Don't forget TL Barret on WJPC before Joyner came on air and 1450 WMPP as well as 1270 WWCA in Gary, the last two I worked for before the days of professional Gospel radio.

  • I use to listen TL Barrett like you said before Tom Joyner came on....the radio station was 95WJPC (Johnson Publishing Company). Sometimes those two would talk in between their sessions and would have me laughing.

  • Remember when Marshall H.S won the WJPC choir contest with I believe a teenage Darius Brooks? My car brooke down and Pastor Barret made sure i had a ride home.

  • I know Darius Brooks, I attended Rose of Sharon Church for a couple of years and he would come over. He was friends with the organist and he also dated a friend of mine. I saw him out at Rock of Ages playing for their choir.

  • Wow, I have never heard of her before but this is amazing I hope shes on itunes music store.

  • See I can remember on sunday's when we would get up and mama would be in the kitchen just cooking away and you would hear that good ol Gospel music.

  • That is so true. Man! I am having flashbacks now. Lol! I grew up with my parents who was a Pastor and First Lady and you could smell the biscuits and bacon and sausage. It was just a different time! Miss it.

  • Oh my Lord! I remember hearing this on a family trip back from Tarboro, NC. This came on and there was a hush in the car. Ahhh, family trips were so exciting to me! Tis brings back precious, precious memories.

  • Gone are the days when the organ could be heard and you didn't rely on a computer to make your music. I love this song. Sometimes they play in on 1390 in Chicago but not the whole song so we don't hear that organ at the end. Corporate radio I guess won't allow songs this long to played all the way because it get's in the way of a commercial. I also loved to hear Mryma Summers when she was at Bountiful Blessings in Memphis witj Bishop GE Patterson

  • I have to agree with you my friend who ever he is he shoul noff play the heck out of that organ i think i'm going to teach this song to my choir saturday in rehersal and play it sunday man i miss church the way it use to be

  • amen

  • The organist is the one and only A. Jeffrey LaValley, truly one of God's most anointed ministers of music. He's currently the minister of music at New Jerusalem Church in Flint, Michigan. He's even more ridiculous on the keys all these years later.

  • I asked someone who sang on the album and was told that Jeffrey LaValley is on the Piano and someone else is on the organ. She thought it was Phil Stancil..but couldn't remember exactly. Of course I don't have the album jacket...

  • Naw, it's Jeff. Listen to part 2. Someone says his name out loud during the solo.

  • The late Jerry Gorham is on the piano. Jeffrey LaValley is on the organ.

  • Thanks for remembering Jerry Gorham. To the best of my recollection, he was the victim of a train accident. He is missed. Thank the LORD for capturing sound bytes of his prolific talent on recordings. Those were the days!

  • Jerry taught me the songs for this entire album in about 7 minutes. My flight was late getting into DC, so he took me into the basement of Refreshing Springs, and taught me enough to get through the session. He was a spectacular musician, and a great friend. Jeffrey LaValley

  • Hey there! Thanks for responding and adding your comments. I was a friend of D.V., and met an talked with Th.W. a lot when he'd come to the DC area. You guys from Michigan are in a class all by yourselves. Its an honor to speak with you. Pastor Jeff Way, The WORD Center, Maryland

  • Mr. Lavalley you did and awesome job on this song you alone with the great Shelby Wills formerly with the cosmopolitan church of prayer choir realy inspired me to play God bless you.

  • Thank you. I was honored just to bee a part of this session. It was a fantastic experience.

  • Now that I'm "grown" it has really become obvious that your touch gave depth to Myrna's music. I think all of your work with her (from the 70's on through to Sanctify Me in the 90's) gave her music a quality that people still borrow from and try to emulate. If I had known then, what I know now, I would have paid more attention during Spiritual Exposion other things you did at the Spring...LOL!

  • Can you post your organ solo? That is made this song so famous. They don't play it on radio.

  • Please take a look at my video for "Anyway You Bless Me Lord," there's an old pic of Jerry Gorham and some others.

  • Thank you.

  • That is amazingly beautiful

  • the rich sound of true artis is right here and I must say it is heart warming to here such sounds wonderful

  • Never heard this fantastic voice until NOW.

Thank You simply beautiful I will be seeking Miss Myrna out so I can enjoy listening to her some more.

  • Please PLease don't forget Comfort me

  • Give Me Something to Hold Onto/Comfort Me are in my top 5 Myrna faves; I like how she combines the two songs when she sings them live. Hopefully, the man will be finished converting my vinyl to MP3 soon. I'll definitely let you know when it's up.

  • I like this....the beat is just so smooth....and the message is so powerful....

  • Myrna had a subtle funk sound that was very unique. I think this song is probably the best and purest example of the "Myrna Summers Sound"

  • This has got to be one of my favorite Myrna Summers songs.... Is'nt there more to this song though???

  • This is the whole song. When she does it live, she usually does it and I Found Jesus together like one song. But as for I'll keep Holding On, this the whole song.

  • Myrna currently directs our choir and she is still awesome.

  • what church?

  • Reid Temple AME in Glenn Dale, MD

  • This is great. PLEASE POST MORE SONGS BY MYRNA SUMMERS!

  • MAn plz sell me a copy email me at or better ye

  • How much you offering? Anything less than a million...I won't consider :)

  • I haven't heard this song in over 20 years boy it brings back memories!

    GOD BLESS YOU!!!

  • Thank you. I'm working on getting more posted. I've got all kinds of old records and cassettes, even some of Myrna teaching music in choir rehearsal; and I'm having them converted to MP3s. So, I should have more to put up this month.

    Be blessed

  • This One too. Thanks.
