The album that this came from was always my favorite of all the Johnny Cash albums my daddy bought and then gave to me becauce I was the one who became the Johnny Cash nut in our house *thumbsup* JR Cash
How much longer will the grass grow? Native poeple I am white and I am thoroughly sorry! Johnny thank you for your tribute to the greatest people this land has ever known!
Love the sound of ladies harmonizing in the background?... guessing the Carter family, Johnny being married to June...and of course, I love the melody and lyrics. I don't recall the title of the album, but thanks to my late brother I have it safely tucked away in a box somewhere. What a great song!...what a great arrangement!!...Thank you 'livethedukewayne' for this wonderful post...you & the tune deserve many more "look-sees", but we are few who know the breadth of JC's music...Tunesmith
I can't find a definitive reference for the origin of the phrase "talking leaves." I read once that certain natives had no other way to describe language than "talking," and no other way to describe paper than "leaves," and this was their concept when they noticed Europeans writing and later reading what others had written. I also read that it was cynical, a reference to how white men's words dried up and blew away like leaves when they changed their minds. Anyone know something specific?
Thanks... I heard a reference to the "talking leaves" on a video showing Johnny and June Carter and Pete Seeger together. I was in a USN detention barracks waiting on a military court when I first heard "Folsom". The train ran past the barracks down to Chicago several times a day. I like Johhny Cash so very much, and this just makes me appreciate him so much more. Peace...
@harpozzz I gave you a 'green thumbs up' but could not resist also commenting about your comment. You're 'a kick and a half' Dude!...Love it...Tunesmith

Great video, a bit strange that the "America" cover is in the video instead of "Bitter Tears" though.

This record album also has Ballad of Ira Hayes, another haunting song

We were brought up on Johnny Cash - my dad played him endlessly - this comes from an album called Bitter Tears - many more beautiful songs on it.
