Ben Stein does not understand that the scientific method is based on evidence not philosophy. If Intelligent Design wants to the same time in the classroom then it must go through the trial of fire of the scientific method to insure that students are being taught the most accurate information available not just take a look around and the answer is clear.
@chachee99 To what extent is Evolution a Philosophy? Has it undergone the trial of the scientific method or has it merely won the hearts of scientists? if it is a scientific theory and not a Philosophy it should have a clear mechanism. a clear mechanism is what makes a scientific theory what it is. Scientists cannot even agree on the mechanism (or collection of the right mechanisms) so where is the scientific theory?
@PacmanBonez Wow, all I can say is: If something like that answer is enough to satisfy the limited amount of your inquisitiveness, then it's no wonder you believe.
That is NOT an answer to my inquiry!
Let's try again - you stated: "he is outside of time space matter" - what would lead you to believe that this is so?
@PacmanBonez So, let me see if I got this straight... you assume that God exists (or at least DID), and therefore the only perspective he could have executed the creation of the universe from is one "outside" the space/time continuum?
@PacmanBonez Oh, I see, because I haven't chosen to blindly accept the assertions regarding the nature of reality you apparently have, I must therefore be of a lesser character than you - 'cause it goes without saying that if I haven't come to the same conclusions as you have regarding these topics I MUST be.
Take care to notice that I have not (and would never) disparage your character - only your conclusions (I can respect YOU without being expected to respect your opinions).
@steveb0503 if taking Jesus' teachings by faith means to 'choose blind assertions' then i guess so.. and my faith defines who i am as a person so if u dis that then you are dissing me, whether you intend to or not
@PacmanBonez But, what EXACTLY sets this apart from any other type of belief and/or opinion?
My point is: If one believes that the Sun revolves around the Earth and someone else tells him they believe him to be in error - has he therefore attacked their character (other than by inferring that their reasoning faculties may be faulty)?
This may not be a perfect analogy, but I hope you can see my point.
I DID NOT question your character, but you failed to show me the same courtesy. Why?
@steveb0503 what makes christianity different??? well religion is mans attempt to reach God.. Jesus was God's attempt to reach man... and how in the world did i question your character
@PacmanBonez If you had appropriately considered my last post, you should have taken my meaning concerning the difference (if they exist at all) between religious beliefs and any other kind of belief the way I intended it, instead of reading your own interpretation of my words into it.
You need to be able to hear what the other person is ACTUALLY saying, NOT what you think they are.
"[H]ow in the world did i question your character?" - Gee, it might have had something to do with likening me to "dogs and swine".
While I understand the reference (MTW 7:6) and its context, you don't get to get away with saying "Well, that's what it says in the Bible." - I do not accept your book as "holy" or "divine" or whatever - and your use of it implies agreement with it's sentiment - which is that I am of an equal character with dogs and swine for not "getting it".
@PacmanBonez But, BECAUSE you use the phrase, that implies that you agree that anyone who does not (or possibly will not) appreciate or understand spiritual concepts is equal to (or no better) than dogs or swine.
Try this rephrase: "Because you do not see things as I do, I will not waste my effort trying to convince someone who - due to his non-belief - is obviously no better than a dog or a swine."
How is it that such a statement would not be a form of character attack?
@steveb0503 in the parable.. the swine represents someone who will hear your words and entertain them but could care less.. they just lay on them like theyre just laying around a mud hole or something.. the dog represents someone who attacks you and bites b/c they hate your words (not my words but Christ' words) ... im not saying your a trash person but thats the context of what im saying when i say swine and dogs
@PacmanBonez It's not even a fair analogy though, due to the fact that I actually do care about what other people think and why they think it (even if I don't agree with the ideas they are espousing), and that I am emphatically NOT attacking anyone due to "hating" their words (or the words they are repeating and/or condoning) - I am merely disagreeing with the words and/or the conclusions derived from them.
Challenging one's assertion does not necessarily imply an attack on quality of character.
@steveb0503 and i never did attack your character.. within the context that Christ told that parable, im correct in using that term 'swine' ... b/c while u do care what i think, youre not going to do anything w/ it
@PacmanBonez But, you see, I've yet to be convinced that there's any reason I SHOULD "do anything w/ it", and besides, the main point here is that if you can claim that if I "dis that then you are dissing me" for merely questioning your assertions regarding the nature of reality (which, as I pointed out is essentially no different than disputing someone's belief in a geocentric astronomy), it's not much of a stretch to see how one could take offense to being likened to a swine in ANY context.
@walkbar By asking the question, who made god? you are not thinking of god, god is over time, over everything. our brains isn't big enough to understand it. but ofc we try and replace it with other things, like matralism and darwinism etc
"What we must fight for is to safeguard the existence and the reproduction of our race...so that our people may mature for the fulfillment of the mission allotted it by the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE...Peoples that bastardize themselves, or let themselves be bastardized, sin against the will of eternal Providence."
"Love of God leads you to a very glorious place...Science leads you to killing people."
-Ben Stein
Think about that one, while you use a computer, sit in some artificial structure, possibly using artificial lighting, having eaten food either engineered directly or bred selectively, possibly using medications, wearing artificial fibers, and possibly using corrective biological devices (pacemakers, glasses, et cetera).
Ever hear of the Pentecostals, the ones with those giant "rolling on the floor, babbling gibberish" ceremonies? The entire sect is based off of that one verse.
Btw, no other field in science attracts so many amateur, dumbass knowitalls as astronomy and advanced physics. I love how Hannity sums up the Big Bang in 5 secs even though he has no fucking idea of what it's about and, like 95% of the population, is intellectually inferior to even grasp the theories in question.
Notice the hand sign colmes uses against Stein in the beginning of the interview. It is the 666 hand sign of sorcery mind control. Essentially, it hypnotizes people. It takes place at 0:58 seconds. Colems flashes the sign at Stein and says "This is it." Also notice how earler he said the words twice already "this is it." Listen for it. He says "This is it" while flashing the sign, and Ben Stein repeats, "this is it", effectively being hypnotized by Colmes. This is how they operate. See it?
@Kretain Actually, sorcery is not bullshit, but it is deception using trickes against a person's worldview construct. And, that while food is good if your Italian thing, well where's the Italian food,or the Italians for that matter? Sorcery is the essence of mind control, that is, what the mechanics are ultimatly built on. And no body here is knitting anything either. Watch the video "1 Interpreting Media NLP Neuro-linguistic programming" and it's subsequent two parts. Then we'll talk more.
@Kretain Well, you can assert something in capital letters all you like, doesn't make it true. Obviously I am not retarted, because I have not needed to result to brainless name calling like some (won't mention who). Watch the video I suggested, and go learn something. The video again is 1 Interpreting Media NLP Neuro-linguistic programming.
@GutsBrandedSwordsman Ok, so, if magic exists, why not just go to one of the 5 contests going atm, with a 1million prize pool for proof of ANYTHING magical?
@Kretain The "magic" I'm talking about is "magick"...Aleister Crowley style, mixed up with NLP to get what you see here. So yeah, it's not "that" kind of "magic", as you put it. Essentially what your witnessing is Hannity and Colems using advanced sorcery based NLP in order to direct Stein's line of thinking. This, in turn, allows Hannity and Colmes to make certain inferences that Stein SHOULD be less on gaurd to defend himself against. It's all about contructing the worldview of the viewers.
@Kretain Wearing you skull and bones clothes at the moment? Doubled headed Eagle clothes? How about Adidas triple triangle clothing (the three triangles are three great pryamids of Giza). Or maybe something with a checkboard or upside down star on it? Rooting for your favorite group of men kicking or throwing or hitting around a ball? Spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on making yourself look good? Spending the rest of your life being dumbed down by floridated water and the movies?
@Kretain lol yeah, it may not be out to get "me" per say, but it is certainly out to get "us" collectively. The world, however, is a bit general. I would prefer to sum it all up with the culprit entity behind all this, historically speaking. That is, all roads lead to Rome...Vatican. The Vatican is a political state. Research the Jesuits. Watch Walter Veith's Lecture "The Secret Behind the Secret Societies". Also his lecture "The U.N. and the Occult Agenda". I mean, just do some homework.
First of all, secret societies are usually rubbish, for instance, skull n bones, sure, it's a frat group, so what? sure the members usually get to high places, so?
People that havn't been in there have gained the same 'power'.
And the fact that the frat is in one of the 'best' schools in the world has NOTHING to do with them getting any power at all right? :P
My thoughts:
My life is too short to spend worrying about the boogy-man.
@Kretain Have you seen the footage of the guy who gets tazed for asking John Kerry wether or not he was in Skull and Bones with Bush? If it's so innocent then how do you explain that? And no one is trying to impress you, only bring you some truth. As for your thoughts, I don't know where you are from but in the United States we are grateful to our fathers who DID worry about the "boogy-man". Your thoughts show a lack of integrity. I worry about the "boogy-man" because I love freedom. RESPECT!
@GutsBrandedSwordsman If you bury your head in the sand, well next time "they" blow up some buildings (refering to 9-11) I hope you are not inside. It's calamities like that which these things eventually result in. If you think those airplanes caused those giant towers to disintigrate from top to bottom in less then ten seconds, well it is no wonder you also believe in evolution. Caring about important issues is a matter of integrity. It is important to care about others, not just ones self.
@Kretain They were burning at the point of impact for a short period of time. After the impact the buildings were standing for around an hour. They were not on fire the entire time. Look up Archetecture of World Trade Center Towers to see why plane crashes could not cause such disintegration. Its not even crumbling, the buildings turn to a fine power from top to bottom. And I didn't "hid" the comment. I have no reason to do such a thing.
But that you are a conspiracy nut that denies evolution, just puts you on an entirely new level of nuttery that my mind can't even comprehend. so til you get a clue, toodles.
@Kretain Yeah well we can both agree on one thing...your mind can't even comprehend. Your exactly right, it can't. And I don't need clues, you do. I've got the answer that the clues all lead up to. You'll see. I promise you. Just remember that when the sky flashes and everyone reacts, that I told you it would happen...that is project bluebeam. It's what the chemtrails are prepping the skys for. Youtube Project Bluebeam and you will see. I'm not exactly sure what they want to show though
@GutsBrandedSwordsman Have you atleast checked out what exists 10km under ground? no you havn't, it's called warm rock, or magma, you know the stuff BELOW the crust.. christ, if you aren't even gonna TRY to think, just for alittle while, then please gtfo the internet.
@Kretain What point are you trying to make about 10km underground? I know what warm rock and magma are. If you were implying that magma is under the Earth and not Hell, then I agree because I do not believe in the stereotypical "Hell" were monsters and evil people live. Rather, I believe in the judgement and the Lake of Fire that is the destiny of all those who break the commandments of God. But the judgement is an event that has not happened yet, so dead people are not in Hell or in Heaven.
@GutsBrandedSwordsman I explain that as an "I don't want conspiracy nuts in my meetings, please remove them asap", "sure thing sir", then he resisted and they had to. It's in their handbook ffs..
The only way you can loose freedom is if you GIVE it away, freedom can't be taken by anyone.
And why exacly do they show a lack of integrity?
Because I don't want to endulge nutcases?
Or because I don't want to waste my time, doing things, that have no meaning. Or as little of it as possible.
@Kretain So is that how we deal with people who have diverging viewpoints, to remove them? Wow, that is so democratic, let's me know how free we are. I think you give away your freedom when you justify such actions. Kerry could answer saying a simple "yes" or "no". Guess that would have been too much. Your very logic regarding this shows a lack of integrity. Just remove and taze all those with "crazy" questions. Do not "indulge the nutcases". Yeah, he seemed so nutty didn't he? Watch again
@GutsBrandedSwordsman So, if you had people asking you about a secret cookie recipe, every, let's say, 10 times you step outside your door, then INSIST that you know that recipe, even though you have no idea of what they are talking about, they are just normal cookies.
Now let's say you had some friends, that where more then willing to remove that person from your general area.
Would you decline that?
Now let's say the 'idiots' insist on staying infront of you, what force would be 'ok?
@Kretain Is this how you are going to respond to my statement, by spinning around the logic? You have not addressed anything I said. Your analgous comparison is juvenile at best. It is sad to see you have resorted to pathetic logic traps like this one. In anycase, Kerry and Bush were in Skull and Bones together, so the secret cookies that don't exist (I know you said recipe) is not a good analogy, because Skull and Bones is real. Even you will not deny that Skull and Bones is a real Frat.
@GutsBrandedSwordsman I agree, skull and bones is a real club, but so are cookies, the club isn't special, exept that most people that are in it are strange and usually gain some power thru whatever means, but the same goes for the cookies, they might seem strange and special to some people, but they really aren't.
Darwinian evolution doesn't make any claims about the origin of the world, gravity, the Universe, or even how life began. The very first lesson in my high school biology class was that evolution starts the moment after life first arises. It is not responsible for life.
lol "All you have to do is look at nature!" So creationists now want to claim that nature is proof of some deity's existence? Its a shame that their legacy is one of throwing people like Galileo in jail for "looking at nature."
And Stein essentially implies here that the Grand Canyon was manually carved by a god for aesthetic value. He must not realize how perfect an example it is of something whose slow, gradual formation we do understand and is a counterpoint to what he is arguing.
Atheists do not believe that the universe came from nothing.
They readily admit that they don't yet know exactly what happened 14 billion years ago, but they're working on it. We've only invented computers about 70 years ago so give us some time please.
Oh Ben Stein. Us mean atheists will stop "opressing" you once we're allowed to run for public office and take oath in a court of law in every state of the US. Then we'll talk about how opressed you've been.
you folks may not agree with everything he says (I don't either) but the main point of the movie, and most of what he says, is about how certain worldviews are completely shutout of the scientific world. also in the education world. there is no more proof for evolution than there is for creationism. and vis-versa.
also saying the guy is stupid and knows nothing, is a stupid statement. he has spent more time studying things and learning in his life than most of us ever will.
@gatorJ50 you said "there is no more proof for evolution than there is for creationism" are you being serious ??? do you understand science??? and Ben stein is stupid saying that evolution caused the holocaust
@gatorJ50 It is only logical to shut out a "worldview" that is unscientific from receiving any scientific funding or support. There is more *evidence* for evolution, mainly because it is impossible to provide scientific evidence for an unscientific claim. That is the inherent problem of ID, and why it neither deserves nor receives any serious attention from scientists. It's not right; it's not even wrong.
@notthecheatr For something to be tested scientifically it has to be observable and repeatable. Now the creation of the world is a historical event that none of us were present to see. It is also not repeatable, unless there is another world (or universe) out there that we have made by repeating the same process.
So with your new knowledge of the scientific method (the method by which all scientific theories are tested, or should be) what is the conclusion?
@gatorJ50 Evolution has nothing to do with the creation of the world. Evolution is the change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms through successive generations. This is very observable ;)
I understand the scientific method very well, that's how I know it works. I trust the scientific process because it is the best way we humans have of discovering empirical facts.
@notthecheatr There is no *scientific* evidence for either theory! Neither one can be completely proven, both must be taken on faith. There are evidences that lead in either direction but you can draw no conclusions from these evidences. Creationism however has a historical document that dates WAY back and gives an account of the creation. You do not have to believe what I believe but just know that your opinion is based just as much on faith as mine is.
@gatorJ50 The scientific method does not produce "opinions" and truth is not democratic. Your understanding of the universe comes from an ancient book written by bronze age men who were very superstitious and many of whom were probably schizophrenic.
My understanding of the universe comes from the collective discoveries of thousands of people using the scientific method to study all the physical evidence we have regarding the origin of the universe. If that's faith, it's a much better "faith."
what the fuck Ben Stein! i could critize every single word that has come out of this guys mouth. his ignorance is astounding! hes a fucking walking lie.
What a fucking nob. Yes, nobody ever killed anyone before Darwin came along. I expect the crusades were just people who knew what Darwin was going to say later.
So Ben's opening point is that Hitler used Darwin's theories to put into effect the events that led to the holocaust... I guess the idea being to sort of un-evolve (yes, by way of genocide) his way out of diversity and leave only the master race standing.
And Stein oh-so-subtly implies that this somehow reflects badly on the theory and its followers, as if you could hold the knife responsible for the knifing, or the gun responsible for the assassination.
I also appreciate how creationists want to use science and math when it supports their views (e.g. "mathematicians tell us the chance is nil"), but do not even want to consider the science and mathematics that refutes their claims (e.g. The chance is very small, but with the vast number of stars and planets in the universe, even an event with a small probability becomes a near certainty).
Creationists cannot have it both ways. If you want to use science, use it all. Otherwise, keep out of it.
Hitler often praised Christian heritage, German Christian culture, and professed a belief in an Aryan Jesus Christ, a Jesus who fought against the Jews.
Of course, Hitler also planned to destroy the church at some point. As one can clearly see, suing the rantings of a deranged madman is really no way to support or refute a theory. Hitler's views and actions have no impact on the veracity Darwinian evolution of any other theory. He was a nut and nothing more.
I really grow tired of the cherry-picking that occurs when it comes to Hitler and the rhetoric he used to promote the extermintion of the jews and others. Let it be known that he used any and all rhetoric that he thought would advace his cause. Yes, he used eugenics, but he also used religion. Behold the following quotes:
As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice."
I tent to ignore people who who chose to attack others by relating them with hitler, The holocaust was a terrible and unimaginable tragedy, and Stien is descracing the survivors and victims by using it as ammo for his vendeta
what always interested me is the meaning of semetic- which means afro asiatic peoples....Ben Stien or most jews I see dont look African or Asian and dont have any family in African or Asia and ive met jews and see large amounts of jews that seem to be racists against people of color...But at the same time claim to be some how african or asian SOMETHING IS NOT QUITE RIGHT....
Ben Stein is a douche. He is basically saying "if we can't understand how something works, it must have been created by a god".
There is absolutely no logic behind thinking like that at all. If anything you are compounding the problem even further because you would need to explain how this "god" came into being as well.
We have all this stuff around us, while we can't understand all of it, there is no need to create an imaginary friend to attempt to fill that void.
What is Colmes doing on this show? Most of the clips I've seen of him, makes him out be at least reasonably intelligent. Especially next to that complete tool and moron Hannity.
It does take a lot of grey matter to come to the conclusion on intelligent design by just looking at the sunset in downtown Manhattan. BS is simply a retarded cockroach.
Darwin did not belive humanity was devided into races he feelt the diffrences where only skin deep.
individuals might geneticaly inferior but thats obvious.
for example the russians tsars son (before they where killed) suffered from a genetic disease (probably caused by inbreeding) that stopped his blood from clotting making him very prone to bleed to death at the sligtest scratch.
thats undeniably something no-one would ever want to pass on
from my latin class, science is the present participle that means 'know ing' (lol I actually paid attention) it is the progressive form, not completed. If science would have proved everything, would our existence be but a repetitious cycle? I think lol not being able to know or prove things is somehow good, because there are so many things you can't take for granted, for example our BEING. Why on earth are we who we are? having mind and body...lol oh well, I may be a stupid kid but not ignorant
Even though they have separate domains, they are not independent. xD The senses are checked by the intellect, but the intellect is tenderized by senses because if it dint intellectual knowing is just about being RIGHT and not questioning the what, how, and why
I think that science should have a certain wonder and awe at what they discover. If science had explained every thing, what would be left of science?
lol To tell you the truth...I'm no longer surprised why people think that religion and science seem to be separated...xD after all isn't a human being split between body and soul; heart and mind. But what surprises me the most is that we ARE still because of their coexistence not separation ^.^
I love how Hannity and other idiots say that in order to have all these wonderful things there had to be a God to create it. Well, if that's the case then imagine how wonderful this God must be and guess what - All these religious nuts have to then question "Who created God!?" You can't just say that just because something is wonderful there must be a God. It doesn't even make any sense. Seriously.
Hitler believed that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus and thus deserved to die. Religion was justification for the Holocaust, not science.
Hitler used the Roman Catholic church and Lutheran hatred of the Jews to rally his people and justify the holocaust. Hitler did not believe in an atheist state. He was tolerant of all religions, but he was a Roman Catholic who dabbled in the occult. Whether or not he _believed_ in god is debatable, but if you read his book, he justifies most his actions using Christianity. He never once mentions "darwinism" or "evolution" in his book.
No darwinist ever claimed humans should take evolution into their own hands. Science is Wrong, religion is wrong about our origins. Why can't we embrace unknowing?
The best way to approach someone who is deliberately dishonest, such as Ben Stein, is not to try to convince him (a pointless effort since a con-artist's problem is not that they are unconvinced) but rather to expose him. Don't expect him to be fettered by a conscience and assume there is some dirty tactic he won't resort to. And DO NOT have a taped conversation with him unless you can be assured that the ones doing the taping are an independent third party and not his cronies.
Now that Ben Stein has revealed his true nature ( a con artist through and through ), let's make sure we do not allow him to ever get away with this again.
As an atheist, I was a bit offended when they said what I "had to believe." I don't believe that everything came from nothing. In fact, I don't believe everything came from anywhere. I believe that energy has always existed. I don't believe that the big bang implied that everything was 'created.' I do believe that it is possible that spacetime (as we know it) was created with the big bang. And I believe that spacetime allowed energy to condense into matter.
I`ve heard the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy are on a collision course with eachother. It may not affect us though, because the sun will have swallowed the Earth by then. And before the Earth is gone we may have joined the 99.8% of species that have gone extinct. Some design wouldn`t you say?
"As an atheist, you have to believe that something came from nothing" - Well, where did God come from?
"Just take a look at the Grand Canyon, and you have proof of God's existence" - Yeah, and just take a look at the bloated bodies of dead people after the Tsunami, and you have proof of His Greatness...
It's not about what they promote, it's the mode of conversation. They repeat arguements which have been debunked by counter-arguments so many times, but they don't mention that. They just agree with each other. That's simply deceitful propaganda.
For instance, take "As an atheist, you have to believe that something came from nothing". Any sane person would now say, "Well, as a theist you're actually stuck with the same problem." Just watch one random Dawkins interview, for instance.
@CalebX11 "For instance, take "As an atheist, you have to believe that something came from nothing". Any sane person would now say, "Well, as a theist you're actually stuck with the same problem." "
The only difference is that theists can believe in what God said, trusting Him. Atheists can't believe at all as they're against faith... starting with delusive Dawkins himself.
@CalebX11 Evolution repeats defeated arguements as well. For instance, there IS evidence of genetic change within a type of animal (this is what bacterial genetic manipulation has shown). However, there is NO evidence for transmutation of one animal kind to another. That is, genetic manipulation of animals (or lifeforms in general) has it's limitations. Dog breeders breed many types of dogs, but they are always dogs. Not even a little less dog. They can't even turn a housecat into a lion.
@CalebX11 wow, i started checking the comment replies to my comments 2 years later and i saw this one and i have to say this was back when i was a theist! lol I no longer believe in a big man in the sky! sorry about that comment! xD
To be an atheist you don't have to believe anything. That's what an atheist is, someone who does not have a belief system. You don't have to have an explanation as to the origins of life, the universe, gravity or whatever.
yeah i looked up a definition from webster that says atheism is the disbelief in the existence of deity. So atheists do "believe" that there is no deity. You either do or you do not. That is the clear difference between an atheist and a theist.
No, not quite. It says that atheists have a disbelief in the existence of a deity, but this is not the same as having a belief that there is no deity. Do you have a belief that there are no fairies, or do you not have a belief in fairies existing? The difference is subtle, but still important.
Plus atheism means not theism, so if you're not theist, you're atheist. Asexual=not sexual, apathetic=not pathetic(meaning feeling or caring), atheism=not theism.
Only in the sense that I believe that someone's guilty of murder when they're found at the scene of the crime covered in the victim's blood, knife in hand, after leaving hair samples, skin samples and blood samples everywhere from where the crime started to where it finished, taking polaroids of himself doing it every few seconds. It's not what you would call a baseless belief, more a well-supported theory.
i still think that it is just so easy for someone to believe in something. no matter what it is you are always believing in something, leaning towards one thing more than the other at least
well evolution is merely a theory as well as ID. Neither can be "tested". Yes they have done research on evolution. They have also done research on ID. You can compare probabilities. I don't want to argue with you or anything, I am just curious about where you come from and why you believe what you do?
evolution is a scientific theory, ID doesn't even qualify as a scientific hypothesis. Evolution IS tested, predictions ARE made and confirmed spectacularly. ID has put forth no observation, no testing, no predictions, just belief. I come from a line of life that stretches back billions of years, unbroken, and leads to me, I accept this because its most naturally plausible and is supported by evidence.
alright alright i can dig that. what is your belief when it comes to the existence of the universe, and then life on earth(more specifically the first cell or living organism?
The conservation of energy is clear on energy and matter having always existed in one form or another. The oceans formed from hydrogen-oxygen compounds
alright. how do you think the universe came into existence? how do you feel about our planet being the only one with life that we know of out of the billions of other galaxies we now know exist? How did they all form and where did the initial energy come from? Are you saying that energy is sort of like a higher source or being, because it did not come from nothing it is ultimate and has always been here?
who said the universe came into existence? The way we know of it now was formed by the big bang but the big bang didn't create anything. We've only observed the surface of 2 planets, saying we're the only planet with life is pure speculation. Planets form in the accretion disk of a collapsing and forming star. Energy and matter are the same thing in different forms
so you believe the big bang theory? do you believe that there is life on other planets besides ours? do you think there is life in other galaxies as intelligent as us?
Not sure if thumbs up for you for posting the video, or thumbs down for Ben Stein being such a stubborn moron.

Hannity: "To be an atheist, don't you have to believe something comes from nothing?"
Thanks for spreading this poorly formed idea, and besides, don't you believe in a creator who just "was"?!?

@steveb0503 b/c it is what it is
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez Wow, all I can say is: If something like that answer is enough to satisfy the limited amount of your inquisitiveness, then it's no wonder you believe.
That is NOT an answer to my inquiry!
Let's try again - you stated: "he is outside of time space matter" - what would lead you to believe that this is so?
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 haha.. actually it is.. that the only way.. the only way you can see all and do all is if you were outside of the continuem
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez So, let me see if I got this straight... you assume that God exists (or at least DID), and therefore the only perspective he could have executed the creation of the universe from is one "outside" the space/time continuum?
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 nvm... i shouldnt be talking to you.. im not going to cast my pearls amongst dogs and swine
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez Oh, I see, because I haven't chosen to blindly accept the assertions regarding the nature of reality you apparently have, I must therefore be of a lesser character than you - 'cause it goes without saying that if I haven't come to the same conclusions as you have regarding these topics I MUST be.
Take care to notice that I have not (and would never) disparage your character - only your conclusions (I can respect YOU without being expected to respect your opinions).
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 if taking Jesus' teachings by faith means to 'choose blind assertions' then i guess so.. and my faith defines who i am as a person so if u dis that then you are dissing me, whether you intend to or not
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez But, what EXACTLY sets this apart from any other type of belief and/or opinion?
My point is: If one believes that the Sun revolves around the Earth and someone else tells him they believe him to be in error - has he therefore attacked their character (other than by inferring that their reasoning faculties may be faulty)?
This may not be a perfect analogy, but I hope you can see my point.
I DID NOT question your character, but you failed to show me the same courtesy. Why?
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 what makes christianity different??? well religion is mans attempt to reach God.. Jesus was God's attempt to reach man... and how in the world did i question your character
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez If you had appropriately considered my last post, you should have taken my meaning concerning the difference (if they exist at all) between religious beliefs and any other kind of belief the way I intended it, instead of reading your own interpretation of my words into it.
You need to be able to hear what the other person is ACTUALLY saying, NOT what you think they are.
steveb0503 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez Cont.
"[H]ow in the world did i question your character?" - Gee, it might have had something to do with likening me to "dogs and swine".
While I understand the reference (MTW 7:6) and its context, you don't get to get away with saying "Well, that's what it says in the Bible." - I do not accept your book as "holy" or "divine" or whatever - and your use of it implies agreement with it's sentiment - which is that I am of an equal character with dogs and swine for not "getting it".
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 if u understood the context of which i said it, u wouldnt take offense.. and if u dont think it to be divine then thats on you
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez But, BECAUSE you use the phrase, that implies that you agree that anyone who does not (or possibly will not) appreciate or understand spiritual concepts is equal to (or no better) than dogs or swine.
Try this rephrase: "Because you do not see things as I do, I will not waste my effort trying to convince someone who - due to his non-belief - is obviously no better than a dog or a swine."
How is it that such a statement would not be a form of character attack?
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 in the parable.. the swine represents someone who will hear your words and entertain them but could care less.. they just lay on them like theyre just laying around a mud hole or something.. the dog represents someone who attacks you and bites b/c they hate your words (not my words but Christ' words) ... im not saying your a trash person but thats the context of what im saying when i say swine and dogs
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez It's not even a fair analogy though, due to the fact that I actually do care about what other people think and why they think it (even if I don't agree with the ideas they are espousing), and that I am emphatically NOT attacking anyone due to "hating" their words (or the words they are repeating and/or condoning) - I am merely disagreeing with the words and/or the conclusions derived from them.
Challenging one's assertion does not necessarily imply an attack on quality of character.
steveb0503 10 months ago
@steveb0503 and i never did attack your character.. within the context that Christ told that parable, im correct in using that term 'swine' ... b/c while u do care what i think, youre not going to do anything w/ it
PacmanBonez 10 months ago
@PacmanBonez But, you see, I've yet to be convinced that there's any reason I SHOULD "do anything w/ it", and besides, the main point here is that if you can claim that if I "dis that then you are dissing me" for merely questioning your assertions regarding the nature of reality (which, as I pointed out is essentially no different than disputing someone's belief in a geocentric astronomy), it's not much of a stretch to see how one could take offense to being likened to a swine in ANY context.

See it?
GutsBrandedSwordsman 1 year ago
@GutsBrandedSwordsman That hand sign could also mean, 'this food is good' if you're italian, or 'I want to start my needlework' if you're into that.
And there is no 666 hand sign, sorcery is bullshit, but mind controll works. Sadly.
Kretain 1 year ago
@Kretain Actually, sorcery is not bullshit, but it is deception using trickes against a person's worldview construct. And, that while food is good if your Italian thing, well where's the Italian food,or the Italians for that matter? Sorcery is the essence of mind control, that is, what the mechanics are ultimatly built on. And no body here is knitting anything either. Watch the video "1 Interpreting Media NLP Neuro-linguistic programming" and it's subsequent two parts. Then we'll talk more.

Kretain 1 year ago
@Kretain The "magic" I'm talking about is "magick"...Aleister Crowley style, mixed up with NLP to get what you see here. So yeah, it's not "that" kind of "magic", as you put it. Essentially what your witnessing is Hannity and Colems using advanced sorcery based NLP in order to direct Stein's line of thinking. This, in turn, allows Hannity and Colmes to make certain inferences that Stein SHOULD be less on gaurd to defend himself against. It's all about contructing the worldview of the viewers.

@Kretain They were burning at the point of impact for a short period of time. After the impact the buildings were standing for around an hour. They were not on fire the entire time. Rather, I believe in the judgement and the Lake of Fire that is the destiny of all those who break the commandments of God. But the judgement is an event that has not happened yet, so dead people are not in Hell or in Heaven.

Because I don't want to endulge nutcases?
Or because I don't want to waste my time, doing things, that have no meaning. Or as little of it as possible.
Kretain 1 year ago

GutsBrandedSwordsman 1 year ago
@GutsBrandedSwordsman I agree, skull and bones is a real club, but so are cookies, the club isn't special, exept that most people that are in it are strange and usually gain some power thru whatever means, but the same goes for the cookies, they might seem strange and special to some people, but they really aren't.

Darwinian evolution doesn't make any claims about the origin of the world, gravity, the Universe, or even how life began. The very first lesson in my high school biology class was that evolution starts the moment after life first arises. It is not responsible for life.
fireguy15207 1 year ago
lol "All you have to do is look at nature!" So creationists now want to claim that nature is proof of some deity's existence? Its a shame that their legacy is one of throwing people like Galileo in jail for "looking at nature."
And Stein essentially implies here that the Grand Canyon was manually carved by a god for aesthetic value. He must not realize how perfect an example it is of something whose slow, gradual formation we do understand and is a counterpoint to what he is arguing.

you folks may not agree with everything he says (I don't either) but the main point of the movie, and most of what he says, is about how certain worldviews are completely shutout of the scientific world. also in the education world. there is no more proof for evolution than there is for creationism. and vis-versa.
also saying the guy is stupid and knows nothing, is a stupid statement. he has spent more time studying things and learning in his life than most of us ever will.

123columbo123 1 year ago
@gatorJ50 It is only logical to shut out a "worldview" that is unscientific from receiving any scientific funding or support. There is more *evidence* for evolution, mainly because it is impossible to provide scientific evidence for an unscientific claim. That is the inherent problem of ID, and why it neither deserves nor receives any serious attention from scientists. It's not right; it's not even wrong.
notthecheatr 1 year ago
@notthecheatr For something to be tested scientifically it has to be observable and repeatable. Now the creation of the world is a historical event that none of us were present to see. It is also not repeatable, unless there is another world (or universe) out there that we have made by repeating the same process.
So with your new knowledge of the scientific method (the method by which all scientific theories are tested, or should be) what is the conclusion?
gatorJ50 1 year ago
@gatorJ50 Evolution has nothing to do with the creation of the world. Evolution is the change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms through successive generations. This is very observable ;)
I understand the scientific method very well, that's how I know it works. I trust the scientific process because it is the best way we humans have of discovering empirical facts.
notthecheatr 1 year ago
@notthecheatr There is no *scientific* evidence for either theory! Neither one can be completely proven, both must be taken on faith. There are evidences that lead in either direction but you can draw no conclusions from these evidences. Creationism however has a historical document that dates WAY back and gives an account of the creation. You do not have to believe what I believe but just know that your opinion is based just as much on faith as mine is.
gatorJ50 1 year ago
@gatorJ50 The scientific method does not produce "opinions" and truth is not democratic. Your understanding of the universe comes from an ancient book written by bronze age men who were very superstitious and many of whom were probably schizophrenic.
My understanding of the universe comes from the collective discoveries of thousands of people using the scientific method to study all the physical evidence we have regarding the origin of the universe. If that's faith, it's a much better "faith."

Welcome to my fucktard list, Benny.
bushonomics 2 years ago
I also appreciate how creationists want to use science and math when it supports their views (e.g. "mathematicians tell us the chance is nil"), but do not even want to consider the science and mathematics that refutes their claims (e.g. The chance is very small, but with the vast number of stars and planets in the universe, even an event with a small probability becomes a near certainty).
Creationists cannot have it both ways. If you want to use science, use it all. Otherwise, keep out of it.
L571J 2 years ago
Hitler often praised Christian heritage, German Christian culture, and professed a belief in an Aryan Jesus Christ, a Jesus who fought against the Jews.
Of course, Hitler also planned to destroy the church at some point. As one can clearly see, suing the rantings of a deranged madman is really no way to support or refute a theory. Hitler's views and actions have no impact on the veracity Darwinian evolution of any other theory. He was a nut and nothing more.

If science would have proved everything, would our existence be but a repetitious cycle? Why on earth are we who we are? having mind and body...lol oh well, I may be a stupid kid but not ignorant

Even though they have separate domains, they are not independent. xD The senses are checked by the intellect, but the intellect is tenderized by senses because if it dint intellectual knowing is just about being RIGHT and not questioning the what, how, and why
I think that science should have a certain wonder and awe at what they discover. If science had explained every thing, what would be left of science?

I love how Hannity and other idiots say that in order to have all these wonderful things there had to be a God to create it. Well, if that's the case then imagine how wonderful this God must be and guess what - All these religious nuts have to then question "Who created God!?" You can't just say that just because something is wonderful there must be a God. It doesn't even make any sense. Seriously.

Hitler believed that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus and thus deserved to die. Religion was justification for the Holocaust, not science.
odinata 3 years ago
BS! That's ignorance to the highest level! Hitler wasnt christian and he killed Jews and millions of others in name of the "pure race".
ivoleonardo 2 years ago
Hitler used the Roman Catholic church and Lutheran hatred of the Jews to rally his people and justify the holocaust. Hitler did not believe in an atheist state. He was tolerant of all religions, but he was a Roman Catholic who dabbled in the occult. Whether or not he _believed_ in god is debatable, but if you read his book, he justifies most his actions using Christianity. He never once mentions "darwinism" or "evolution" in his book.
pyrocubed 2 years ago
Hitler wished for a true socialist state, which fundamentally is antagonaistic to christianity... using religioun as means to a most opposite end.

TheMathGuy 3 years ago
Now that Ben Stein has revealed his true nature ( a con artist through and through ), let's make sure we do not allow him to ever get away with this again.

As an atheist, I was a bit offended when they said what I "had to believe." I don't believe that everything came from nothing. In fact, I don't believe everything came from anywhere. I believe that energy has always existed. I don't believe that the big bang implied that everything was 'created.' I do believe that it is possible that spacetime (as we know it) was created with the big bang. And I believe that spacetime allowed energy to condense into matter.
These are "beliefs" of mine.

Did I just hear Stein say that as a professor, "all you have to do is ask how do the planets stay in their orbits" and you'll get fired!!?
Well, if you're a professor of any basic physics course, YOU DAMN WELL BETTER BE FIRED FOR ASKING SUCH AN ELEMENTARY QUESTION!!

Stein, you slimy piece of shit.
People were killing jews long before evolution. Playing the holocaust card is fucking dishonest.

Are Fox people paid to propagate misinformation?
"As an atheist, you have to believe that something came from nothing" - Well, where did God come from?
"Just take a look at the Grand Canyon, and you have proof of God's existence" - Yeah, and just take a look at the bloated bodies of dead people after the Tsunami, and you have proof of His Greatness...

"Are Fox people paid to propagate misinformation?" I think this MAY BE TRUE!
MaBu888 3 years ago
If they promoted atheism you probably wouldn't be asking if they got paid to do so.
canreader 3 years ago

Atheists can't believe at all as they're against faith... starting with delusive Dawkins himself.
mcfunthomas 1 year ago
@CalebX11 Evolution repeats defeated arguements as well. For instance, there IS evidence of genetic change within a type of animal (this is what bacterial genetic manipulation has shown). However, there is NO evidence for transmutation of one animal kind to another. That is, genetic manipulation of animals (or lifeforms in general) has it's limitations. Dog breeders breed many types of dogs, but they are always dogs. Not even a little less dog. They can't even turn a housecat into a lion.

@CalebX11 wow, i started checking the comment replies to my comments 2 years later and i saw this one and i have to say this was back when i was a theist! lol I no longer believe in a big man in the sky! sorry about that comment! xD

"Are Fox people paid to propagate misinformation"?
Yes.
TheHatefulDead 3 years ago
To be an atheist you don't have to believe anything. That's what an atheist is, someone who does not have a belief system. You don't have to have an explanation as to the origins of life, the universe, gravity or whatever.
BobTKaye 3 years ago
yeah i looked up a definition from webster that says atheism is the disbelief in the existence of deity. So atheists do "believe" that there is no deity. You either do or you do not. That is the clear difference between an atheist and a theist.
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
No, not quite. It says that atheists have a disbelief in the existence of a deity, but this is not the same as having a belief that there is no deity. Do you have a belief that there are no fairies, or do you not have a belief in fairies existing? The difference is subtle, but still important.
BobTKaye 3 years ago
Plus atheism means not theism, so if you're not theist, you're atheist. Asexual=not sexual, apathetic=not pathetic(meaning feeling or caring), atheism=not theism.
BobTKaye 3 years ago
alright. i agree with you but you do believe in something when you say that you are an evolutionist or a darwinist.
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
Only in the sense that I believe that someone's guilty of murder when they're found at the scene of the crime covered in the victim's blood, knife in hand, after leaving hair samples, skin samples and blood samples everywhere from where the crime started to where it finished, taking polaroids of himself doing it every few seconds. It's not what you would call a baseless belief, more a well-supported theory.
BobTKaye 3 years ago
i still think that it is just so easy for someone to believe in something. no matter what it is you are always believing in something, leaning towards one thing more than the other at least
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
okay so do you think that evolution and creationism are both well-supported theories as well?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
evolution is, creation isn't
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago
Now, move the comma after the next word and put the word it in the end and add a period, and you'd have an intellectual O_0.
MaBu888 3 years ago
"..do you think that evolution and creationism are both well-supported theories.."
Evolution explains changes over time. Creationism (attempts) explaining how everything was divinely created.
Evidence for evolution: organisms changing over time. (fossils, genetics)
Evidence for creation: universe comes into existence (bible)
So it would seem that 'creation theory' would need evidence that the universe didn't always exist. Good luck finding that evidence.

hey man i am just asking a few questions. I hear you bashing me but I do not see any clear argument to what you are saying.
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
So are you implying that Creationists are making the world a worse place? And if so how?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
by attempting to wedge their garbage into real science.
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago 2
that is a very vague and biased statement. Why do you think that creationists beliefs are garbage? And why is it not "real science".
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
because not a single one of them have ever been able to formulate a definition of the 'scientific' theory of ID
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago
well evolution is merely a theory as well as ID. Neither can be "tested". Yes they have done research on evolution. They have also done research on ID. You can compare probabilities. I don't want to argue with you or anything, I am just curious about where you come from and why you believe what you do?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
evolution is a scientific theory, ID doesn't even qualify as a scientific hypothesis.
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago 2
alright alright i can dig that. what is your belief when it comes to the existence of the universe, and then life on earth(more specifically the first cell or living organism?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
energy probably always existed, life on earth probably came from one of a number of volcanic vents in the ocean filled with organic chemicals
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago
interesting. have they tested the theory on energy? can that be teste? and did the ocean form from energy?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
The conservation of energy is clear on energy and matter having always existed in one form or another. The oceans formed from hydrogen-oxygen compounds
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago
alright. how do you think the universe came into existence? how do you feel about our planet being the only one with life that we know of out of the billions of other galaxies we now know exist? How did they all form and where did the initial energy come from? Are you saying that energy is sort of like a higher source or being, because it did not come from nothing it is ultimate and has always been here?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
who said the universe came into existence? The way we know of it now was formed by the big bang but the big bang didn't create anything. We've only observed the surface of 2 planets, saying we're the only planet with life is pure speculation. Planets form in the accretion disk of a collapsing and forming star. Energy and matter are the same thing in different forms
ReligiouslyAtheist 3 years ago
so you believe the big bang theory? do you believe that there is life on other planets besides ours? do you think there is life in other galaxies as intelligent as us?
osusportsfan03 3 years ago
In sheer numbers it would be incredible if there weren't life on other planets, intelligent life even.
