I used to work on the office staff of "Magazine" at CBS News (a documentary series that aired once a month on a weekday morning). Sylvia Chase was the correspondent, and she interviewed Peter Lemongello for one of the segments of the show. I got to hear Peter's music over and over as the segment was being edited! I have a bunch of "Magazine" scripts in the closet, so I probably still have the one that contained the Peter Lemongello story. I'll look for it one of these days.
@Soapluvva he performed in the steak pit in paramus nj it looked like it was falling down i knew the mayors son he went there he had a house that looked like a motel with each bedroom having a door to the outside
@spacepatrolman in back of the steak pit was korvettes they had a good record department frank sinatra filmed a scene from contract on cherry street there a woman went early to get an autograph but he walked past the few people and didnt bother with them she went home and took down her alter to frank sinatra on her den wall
Wow does this bring back memories I mean I didn't buy his records it reminds me of coming home at 4.30am falling asleep in front of the TV. Oh those were the good old days
Actually in a way it's cool. Just think: He made the people who actually bought the record very happy and he made us (the ones who were dying of laughter every time we saw the ads on late night TV) very happy. Sort of a win win situation.
No more death by injection or electric chair. Just chain up the convict, strap headphones to his ears and play Peter Lemongello for eternity. The con will never kill again ,except for Peter Lemongello.
not loud enough, could you please boost the volume, as i'm in a nursing home and the staff won't give me batteries for my hearing aid, also nurse ratched wont give me my cigarettes, i don't want cheswick's cigarettes, i want my cigarettes!
Peter has a brother or cousin named Mark who pitched for the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays back in the '70s. You used to see Peter occasionally on TV talk shows (Merv, Mike Douglas), but to be honest, I never met anyone who actually had one of his albums. Did he only have "mail order" albums? He's like other '60s and '70s male "easy listening" singers such as Tommy Leonetti who entertained in dinner clubs all over the country back in the day.
Didn't Peter play the Garden once? I remember his commercials. He's no worse than many others. Good for him. He's obviously a go-getter and went for it.
i remember this tool had a (self funded) burst of publicity in 1976, was even written up in Time magazine ... and everyone yawned.
whoever advised him he didn't need to change his name, just change the pronunciation to sound like Lemon Jell-O killed his career (well that, plus his total cheesiness and lack of talent) - c'mon - nobody, nowhere, nohow was ever gonna buy a record from someone named Peter Lemon Jell-O
Rightly or wrongly, this fellow suffered the taint of being a mafia product. He performed at my school and made a point to make himself available after the show for anyone who wanted to stop by. That's got to count for something.
i keep calling the # to order and its a chinese take out place,no wonder its not in the top 10 you can't order it.and is 8 track something new(replace cds)
Wow what a blast from the past! I was about 15 and I had such a crush on him. His voice his face those eyes and ohhhhh that mouth! Peter if ever in Florida I will be there front row center with the biggist smile in the audience. Only regret not being old enough at the time to see you in person. M.V. in Orlando.Delish!
lol Hi Edward, yes it is soooo Bklyn. I am a Brooklyn Girl and will always be. Im in Florida now...but watching him makes me feel 15 again. I actually teared. LOL.
I remember him. He was one of many of those Englebert Humperdink wannabes of that era. He had a good voice but there was really nothing unique about him so he remained under the radar.
The Commercial may seem a little corny in retrospect and of course dated, but I saw him in concert at Westbury and vocally he was excellent and a great showman - he gave his singing career a good shot and tried to market himself in a different way - it's easy for people to sit back and make jokes, but he had a good voice and tried to showcase that.
If I didn't live through the period when this guy was trying to make it in show business, I'd think it was a great Saturday Night Live bit. This commercial is ALMOST as funny as, well, as Peter Lemongello. ROFLROFLROFLROFL. And the clothes, oh, baby jesus.
I think this guy had a cousin (or some relative) who was a major league baseball player, a pitcher, with the same last name. Later on the cousin Lemongello was arrested for being involved in a kidnapping plot where the singer Lemongello was kidnapped. Whether this is true, whether its an "urban legend" or whether it was all a publicity stunt I don't know. It was a long time ago.
I was like 10 or 11 back then , had a major crush on him..I think it was his eyes..lol He visited the shopping center where I lived and I got an autographed photo of him and thought he was so dreamy..LOL
I would not call him a frawd. He's a just a lounge singer that made it very far thanks to this brilliant TV marketing ploy. I bet somebody could pull this off again if they had the right ad's.
LOL... I remember this commercial would come on late at night in NYC (WPIX channel 11) - I was like 10 or 11 at the time, but even then I thought to myself..."someone in the mob owed somebody else in the mob a few favors"... that's how we got tortured with this crappy commercial. LOL
peter lemongello is my second cousin. i met him a few times, but what sticks out in my mind is my parents talking about him and his jail time when i was younger.
Is this guy still alive? Does he still perform? Actually I have never heard of him. Great voice but the name is kind of weird Lemon Jello? Probably should have changed it maybe he would have been more known
This guy actually still plays the Bramson, Miss. circuit. His brother was the bowling champion of the world. He just decided one day that Paul Anka was so lame, and he was better, and he had some cash, so he self produced this record. The vainest person who ever lived? - you gotta love this guy.
Fucking Joey Diaz! lol
