Is it supposed to be a joke? A bad one? Because there's something offensive about this song. If you imagine him singing "rights for blacks" you will understand my point.
@ menial99- do you write narrations for nature shows or translate children's books to English because your comments are ignorant and condescending. Matthew Shepard is the "homosexual" in question that you refer to in your post. Thanks for your "heterosexual" analysis.
Also, please don't just assume (especially in a post) that someone is just singing "disconnected gobble-de-goop" without first trying to find a logical explanation for what is being conveyed.
Don't assume that you've found out what this song is about unless you are John Maus or have asked him in person. You've found out what the song means to you, which is good for you if that's what you're going for. I'm content in not knowing personally.
First , I would like to say that i find your videos very interesting and thought provoking. Your actually don't know that your thoughts or stimulating in a very weird sort of way. If you had a talk show I would actually watch out. Thanks for being real to yourself and others. By the way your not confused. Your just hoping for better.
John Maus sings "rights for gays, oh yeah" in a deadpan tone, even though the issue is something of concern to him. He is making the point that not enough is being done to ensure equal rights to homosexuals. He reitterates this point singing "right now, rights for gays oh yeah." I can't make out all of the lyrics or find them posted anywhere but I heard him sing "tie him to a fence post". This was in reference to a young homosexual man who was tied to a fence post and beaten by a gay-basher.
I actually think he is almost mocking the naivete of people who advocate for these elusive "gay rights" while pushing their own agenda (i.e. "and medical care for everyone".) His tone definitely suggests that he is not actually just writing another empty anthem about for gay rights.
The more I listen to this song though, the more absurd it becomes.
This account/channel is about things that confuse me. And I have no idea what this song is really about. I don't think it's about gay rights, I think it's just disconnected gobble-de-goop... in a cool way I guess. Or maybe not. I'm confused.
