i pay 850 for a studio in a decent building with a full kitchen and balcony but utilities are not included. Electric and cable with internet is an extra 300-350 a month....And we used to rent an extra parkin which was 50 a month. Its so freakin expensive.....

And just for us 2 we spend like 200/week on groceries....And thats on stuff thats always on sale....

I love Hawaii and I visit there often. Just got back from O'ahu two weeks ago. It's to bad the cost of living is so high. That was the reason my cousin moved away from Hawaii, just couldn't justify getting ripped off for everything you buy. It sure doesn't stop me from visiting though.

Had a five bedroom two story house with its own in ground pool in Aiea (about five minutes from base). 4 roommates, but 550 a month. I miss that house. Neighbors hated Haoles. Didn't much care for them either.

hey, not that expensive for the brand name Hawaii. i'm from Greece... milk has 5-7 dollars a galon and we have like 2 million cows in the country :)

also rent seems not that much at Hawaii. in Greece a one bedroom, 30 years old apt is around 550 dollars but... paychecks here for a working guy is like 1200-1500 dollars a month so... Hawaii don't seem that bad in my opinion.

I'm from Oahu and I loove to move back, but money over there is insane. I could make little money on the mainland and have a big house and alot of money afterwards but over in hawaii you will still living by paycheck by paycheck. It sucks though my family over there is trying to get by.

Thats the main problem with the place. They fluff it up, want your money, but the second you get there, you are not welcome and they want you to leave. There are of course many exceptions to the rule like anywhere else, but im sure you get the point.

thanks brah! my wife has just got an offer to work in oahu as a repiratory therapist. but seems to me like i have to work 3 jobs just so we can have the same lifestyle that we are accustom to. i know it is hard for companies to pay higher wages due to tax, and other fees that the govt. impose on businesses. they need to change that so they can prevent skilled laborers and businesses from fleeing the islands. few jobs and low wages just means more people shacking up at the beach.
