  • Jagadguru Aadi Shankaracharya's exhortation to the foolish masses of this materialstic world to chant the holy name of ' Govinda ' to cross this dreadful ocean of samsara is beautifully conveyed in this melodious rendition by late Dr. MSS amma .

  • amma you are gods gift for people , feels very happy to hear your voice

  • GREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT........ VOICE.

  • superbvoice and song combo my son listens to this song from ababy and still continnes to listen and he is 13 now

  • great song.. every day i will listen dis song..

who is the woman sitting next to amma and singing?

  • she dazzles more than her earrings and nose-rings :)))

  • IMHO MS is a gandharva,by the grace of Narayana, she's born on earth to give a taste of what is real music and using it to advance in spiritual life.

  • excellent voice..

  • Excellent song.........

  • Excellent song......Excellent Voice...super.......

  • hi

  • Learn the meaning... It's eternal

  • She was the avdhar of sri saraswati maa and when she died I made pranam laying down to bhoomi with a prayer that in my next generation at least singers should born in my house.

  • I would have already heard this song on my player a million times by now.. but watching her sing is out-of-the-world kind of experience !!

I think another MSS will never be seen !!!

  • My favourite piece of song, where in I dip into the eternal bliss with ms amma's excellent ocean of singing & will completely recharged with good spirits -- murty tadikonda

  • this is not somebody just singing a song, its a beautiful voice on the planet praying to god, you can see that in her eyes ..

  • Siru02, I agree with you completely: MS Amma was as beautiful as her singing.

  • I am an Athiest and this is one of my most favorite songs :-) ... Love MS reciting this song .. awesome .. And going by the lyrics .. (if it were ever true .". I am one of the fools who does not believe in existence of Hari .." ) Always wondered if MS would have sung more songs non devotional songs ... Sadly we are stuck in the Bhakthi Age and the art almost always ..considered Divine!

  • @rbk9065rbk I was one amongst you,but my views have changed after I understood the depth in a person's thoughts to reach the almighty's feet, which is nothing but a state of purity of all senses.God is bliss supreme and nothing else.

I respect your views.I also respect MS's individuality to choose her songs as offerings to the God she believed in.Probably she would not have sung it so well,if she did not offer each one of it to GOD!!

  • see any difference between recorded version and this version?thats the quality which makes us all glued to her voice for decades, may be for centuries too.

  • How she is able to sing without script? !!

  • @5kallu

she never sung any song with any written material in hand :) even vishnu sahasrnnamam, she's rendered it without any book :) that's MS ! :)

  • Really a wonderful work. I am very happy to hear the MS songs with Youtube. I am very grateful to YouTube org. but how can I save this audio and video in my PC. I don't know Please let me advise

  • download youtube downloader on your PC. Copy paste the song url and follow instructions. If the dowloaded file doesnt play use the convert file option. Good luck!

  • Does anyone know who put this to Ragamala? I want to know the composer's name. I know that Adi Sankaracharya wrote the sanskrit slokas. I have the recorded version CD, but that does not give the name of the music composer's name.

    Any one knows?

  • The verses were set to music by Kadayanallur Venkataraman who used to assist MSS in her practice sessions

  • This was sung by MS Amma and Smt Radha on Doordarshan a few days after the death of Smt Indira Gandhi.

Notice that both the singers do not have the traditional jasmine flowers , (as a sign of respect during the mourning period.)

  • The video title says it is Adi Shankar :

The right way of spelling his name is Sri Adi Sankaracharya -

Please always give respect where there is required. Otherwise, it is a divine song. Thanks for briging it online.

    Best Regards,

  • Sir, I agree and I respect Sri Adishankaracharya. Here, there's nothing much I could do as the title is from the telecast provided by Doordarshan.

  • Most North Indians refer Acharya by his birth name "Shankar" thats what the guys at DD have done I guess.

  • hahhahahahahhaha

  • No true religion ever spread hatred. you cannot seek the god, (whoever you believe in) with such prejudice.

    God bless you!

  • Bro, Hinduism is prehistoric, no documented evidence of is 'birth'.

I request you to kindly not spew venom. Only makes you and your faith look bad.

  • And you are 39 years old? act your age sir!

I dint understand who 'we' meant? u mean muslims/christians/jains...??

You call yourself martyrindia and if you cant appreciate India for its diversity, freedom and spirit, you are kidding yourself. I rest my case!

  • Yes. We can agree that religion is not required for living.

Again its just a choice like the language you speak, the clothes you wear or the movies you like. We should not force a faith down everybody's throats right ?

The scriptures are all out there. Let the people choose what they want. Worship your god, and let others do the same. Why talk ill of any ?

  • Look who is taking..guys please keep up your self..

Just want to say, if you don't like any thing..just smile and walk away..but please mind language when you are posting.

  • @GuruShisya There is no proper way of spelling "Sankaracharya", you could spell it "Shankaracharya" "Sankaracarya", "Shankaracarya", all would be correct renderings in english. Adding a "Sri" is optional as well but preferred in order to indicate respect, but it's certainly not incorrect to say "Adi Shankaracharya".

  • @GuruShisya

    O fool!

Sing the song of the divine.

Sing the song of the divine,

Sing the song of the divine,

  • WOW ! First time i've ever seen her perform. Thank you so much. Hare Krsna

  • We are indebted to Adi Shankara for the composition, God for sending MS Amma to sing this, Amma and 'cacofonics' for the posting for us to see MS Amma performing live. Thanks.

  • God can have form or be formless, to deny either is to impose limits on the limitless.

  • some voices are timeless...this is one of them. She is truly the embodiment of Saraswati Ammavaru. Thanks a ton for this video.

  • I am wondering what Shankaracharya's reaction would've been if he had a chance to listen to this :-) May be - "Wow, did I write this?"

  • @veganshastry Sir, I know your intentions are not negative and you only wish to add glory to Amma, of whome I too am a big fan........but kindly remember that Aadya Shankaracharya was an Avatar, incarnation of the Shiva, the God of Gods. He was supposed to be blessed with Saraswati in his 'Kantha' [vocal cords] and not only in his in his mental calibures !! When he used to sing even lifeless things would become moved.

  • Wow, what a divine voice! Totally mesmerizing..

  • This is terrific. Probably half an octave lower than the recorded version - but has the extra warmth and passion of a live recording. It is amazing how she transitions in this amazing Raga Mallika. Divine. Any idea of what year this was recorded?

  • One has to be well versed in Sanskrit to understand each word of this slokam. And, you can see from her hand movements that she feels each word she utters. Must be a sanskrit scholar as well, I think.

I don't think anyone can sing this song like her.

  • whenever i feel low and sad i listen to this only to see amma's divinity in rendering this.i always cry and nothing more so,as it is

  • Thank you so much. This means so much to me, it really brought tears to my eyes.

  • God sent her to this world so that he could hear his praise and his teachings through her heavenly voice. MS AMMA is immortal. She transcended mortality.
