@1989trainer Thanks man, that's good; you thinking of getting into a Duramax? We sold this truck a few months ago. It's had a very rough & tough life.
@thematt89 naa.. heard alot of bad things about that engine but everybody is entiteled to their owwn opinion i guess lol.. im stickin with my detroit for now lol
you just need to mod them and you can put more boost more mpg and make them more reliable hell you can fix the over heating problem with a torbo intercooler Water-Methanol Injection Kits and lower you egts
Just an update about this truck...it's been stripped of the wheels, all strobes and the back rack...Pretty much back to stock. It has a power (battery) issue, and looks like the ICM is done. Don't really want to put any money into since first off it's a 6.5, and second, too much money has already gone into it. so yeah....
@thematt89 no its not its a iszzu you dumb fuck you dont know any thing about the 6.5 if it was a detriot it would be called a 8v53t so the only ignorant fuck is you cause you dont know what your talking about so tell me this is the 6.6 a detriot huh
@chevy966 Then why is it stamped Detroit? You have obviously lost this argument, everyone is against you. Isuzu built the Duramax, not the 6.5L. Also, you might want to look up how to write a proper sentence, and english spelling. Oh and before I forget: wikipedia*DOT*org/wiki/Detroit_Diesel_V8_engine
Now wait a sec, I didn't see Isuzu written anywhere on that page? Hmm!?
im thinking about buying a 6.5 diesel with about 269000 thousand miles i think and i was wondering how hard that is on the engine. and how reliable are they.
@CHEVYDURAMAXDIESEL1 These 6.5s...no too reliable! This one had a hard time plowing in the winter, it would always overheat. For sale with only 105K miles :))
@CHEVYDURAMAXDIESEL1 dont know how that guy drove his with 105k on it but ive got a 93 with 353000kms on it and still runs strong, lots of balls let just make sure fluids are all good and youll die before she does
Ive got the same truck, but white. Im only 15 so I cant legally drive it, but my dad lets me mudbogg it in the woods. these are really good trucks. how much were those new wheels, they look sharp.
@drozak3207 Listen here...and listen good: Before commenting, maybe you should think things through. The blue strobe is for SNOW PLOWING...and the white strobes are for SNOW PLOWING too...maybe if you had half a brain you'd know that different states have different laws for emergency lighting. And for that snarky little comment on volunteer firefighters, I hope your house burns bud. Cheers.
Honestly, yes. Maybe it does cause it was a plow truck, but man the list goes on. It was fun while I had it but I have moved onto a Ford F-350. This truck is for sale and it's 3 year history has been: rear diff, transmission lines, Coolant tank, rear drums..Right now it needs a couple things, but not putting any more money into it. Sucks but that's how it goes.
The 6.5L detroit aint a bad engine. They still use em in Military hummers so they can't be that bad?? When tuned they do pretty good.
Those 700R4's sure give you a load of trouble don't they? :) I replaced mine 3 times.....
Had a GM 6.5 crate in a 86 K5 Blazer....beastly little truck... one bad transmission design. I can't wait to see the 4L80e in my K1500 Suburban in action. I've heard that they are quite a bit more reliable. But that remains to be seen...I'm dropping in the low mile (115,000) 6.5 from the K5 into the Sub currently.
Glad you are having better luck out of your trans. My last one was beefed up too, and I honestly thought I would never see any more trouble out of it. I had the man put in a shift kit and a newer, lighter torque converter. Well, the torque converter died on me. I suppose the trans might still be OK but I have no use for it now.
i love this truck, im getting my drivers license in a few months and thats the truck im getting, except its white and its a '94. its my dads right now, he has over 220,000 miles on it an its still running like brand new, cant go wrong with a GMC!
I do like it! Diesels the way to go! Is it straight piped cuz its got good a sound. The strobes must be nice when your messing around with the truck, you could just throw on the strobes and look kinda offical.
Glad you do man! I'm all heartbroken over this truck though, bought my F-350, and now this thing runs, but stalls every so often so I need to get that checked out, then it may be getting sold. Loved driving this thing and yeah, loved having the strobes at the flip of a switch! It's not straight-piped, that's something I was going to do until it started acting funny. This truck sure looks different from when it was stock, let me tell ya...
Yep no problem. Im 18 and love diesels, research them all day! Im having a hell of a time trying to decide what truck to buy, ya know a Dodge/Cummins, Ford IDI/Powerstroke, or Chevy/GMC Detroit Diesel/Duramax. I have a 2002 Volvo S60 that my dad use to drive. Its cool, but its no diesel...
You know what, they're all great engines, but since i'm Ford I would have to recommend the 7.3L. Loads of power and still decent fuel mileage; better than the freakin 08s for crying out loud...the 6.0L was sweet but littered with early stage problems with the injectors, etc.
Thanks, I appreciate that! Yeah at dusk the lights and strobes look awesome and it somewhat resembles a police rig with the extra blue strobes. As for a video...I'll see what I can do!
Hey man its not to much to ask but do you think you should give it a new paint job or do you like it the way it is. I have one too and its black but my uncle scraped it and so I need new paint you know.
I sort of like it the way it is, but a paint job would just make it look SO much better. Actually, I have an update. I just bought a 1999 Ford F-350 diesel 4x4 (black) and I really love it. And wouldn't you know it the day I was leaving to go get this new truck my GMC died on me. I think it knew and sort of said well screw you then!
My paint job + lots of body work)was going to be 4000$ and I got my new Ford for 6500$...can't go wrong there...will post new video soon.
Your GMC died on you? What was wrong with it? Well atleast you got your new truck and I cant wait to see it soon on your next video. So sad about your GMC sierra, I guess it did say that. You said that the ford truck was diesel? Doesnt that waste more fuel?
Well the GMC in this video is also diesel. Diesels are usually better on fuel. My new ford gets nearly 20MPG..pretty good for such a heavy truck. The reason it died seems to be the Lift pump; the pump that is supposed to take care of sending the fuel to the engine block from the diesel tank.
My F-350 has wicked power and tq...the 4" turbo-back helps it breathe much better!
Will post in a few weeks; going to jersey soon and it's at the garage getting some new rotors put on all-around!
Oh that's cool. I guess it saves you a lot of money huh? Hehehe well take care of that truck , yeah Im going to florida next week. Not sure if Ill be able to see your truck on youtube. Ill bring my laptop to florida i guess. Good luck in jersey buddy.
I'm running 265/75R16 tires...pretty sure they're the biggest ones you can fit in without having to jack it up. The F-350 next to it can fit on bigger tires just because the fenders allow it. Too bad GM didn't do the same...and they're Load Range E by the way!
Mines 2wd so I had to add some fender flares to mine. I also added clearance lights on mine too. I need to add the lights on the tailgate too. I think it makes it more "trucky"
Its crazy how a nice set of rims sets a truck off. I had the standard steal wheels with the center cap and it made my truck look so cheap.
Thanks! Yeah the only thing with fender flares as you might see is underneath it gets all corroded from road salt, but they do look good.
At around 1:00 you can see the old wheels and tires are off to the side. I had repainted them but they rusted right up again...so I got fed up and picked up these! They really do set off the truck like you said.
It rides so much better than with the old rubber that was on it; there was around 1/16th tread left...highly illegal driving that around!

@wfortier502 But at the end of the day it's still a dog 6.5...your money would be better spent towards a newer duramax, powerstroke or cummins. [IMO]
Back when this truck ran good I considered going to a bigger turbo...never got around to it.
