What he says makes some sense, but how do we explain individuals (whether geniuses, or merely those whose understanding is significantly broader, more inclusive and progressive, than the vast majority of people in their culture) who think outside the cultural box in which they find themselves? And how do we explain the failure of their contemporaries to transcend that box? Astrology provides the archetypes of Aquarius and Uranus, but is only a system of correspondences, not causal explanation.
I know SD is not behavioralism (I uploaded a 37 minute video explaining SD). Fresco is not explicit enough in differentiating between behavioralism or something like SD. A problem is few people has studied SD, so they may have an intuitive grasp of it, but that's not detailed enough. I think fresco puts forth many valid ideas, but ultimately they will be refined and incorporated into more practical solutions.
@slmrcs I agree; there is no 'vertical' or developmental dimension to what he is saying. All I hear is a 'horizontal' perspective: "any moral viewpoint is transferred culturally". But spiral dynamics shows that ones 'sphere of care' expands as a result of development, which happens by learning and awareness. Mr. Fresco seems to approach most social problems through an exterior-oriented lens, meaning behavioral and systems-oriented. He seems to not register the interiors of people and culture.
@tBrozius Yes, I should have thought of that phrasing - exterior oriented. Since I am involved with the zeitgeist movement. I think his explanations are a huge step forward, but it puts a lot of people off, perhaps because he does "register the interiors."
I've been convinced by the recent Adam Curtis documentaries that reducing things to quantifiables is not only ineffective, but impossible. We cannot be "all watched over by machines of loving grace".
i know jaque joined a kkk chapter and was able to disolve it in 1 month -i would like to get more information on this -and if i can ill becone a muslim and see if i can do the same
I think he's more of a behavioralist. Is SD behavioralism?
In SD, as far as I know, it's unclear exactly why people go to next meme. I think it's clear that people can be conditioned into being blue meme, but can we condition someone to be yellow?
And no matter how much we condition someone to a specific meme, what if there is an energetic force (spirt/soul) which puts that person into a paradigm crisis so they move up to the next meme ? I don't think he thinks that possible, but I do.
No, SD is not behaviorism. But I hear what you're saying. Fresco seems to be reducing things to classical conditioning, but like the most recent Zeitgeist film shows, that is in direct comparison with the current popular notions that our behavior is caused by our brain chemicals and structures - a different kind of reductionism. It's important to include both, plus the interior intention of the self, which is similar to what you're saying. All these are partially true.
SD is primarily a way of understanding human development both of individuals and humanity in general over time. Humans develop thru a fairly fixed set of linear stages and these stages are marked by their values, beliefs, world-views, goals, motives and such. Fresco is saying that if you grow up surrounded by people who are living in one of those stages, you will most likely be just like them. I maintain, as do many, that natural emergents appear where an individual will grow...
...will grow beyond the crowd and be alone. This person will be vulnerable, because usually groups will try and get aberrant individuals to conform. But it is possible to grow beyond your Tribe or Culture as an individual.

@slmrcs, there is nothing called "Spiral Dynamics" on your channel. Would you send me the link to your 37-minute SD video please? Thanks! - pi -
