Technically not - he also did part of the countdown commentary for STS-30 Magellan in May '89 (Hugh Harris did the actual launch sequence then). Does anyone know if Diller did any unmanned vehicle countdowns prior to STS-30?
@ceredigio Yes, he was doing Delta and Atlas-Centaur launches in 1986... maybe earlier. I know he did Atlas-Centaur 66 on 12/4/86 and Atlas-Centaur 67 in March 1987...also did a Delta 179 launch in February 1987 I remember....surely others around that time.
@RJY4356 Diller did some of the tanking commentary on the day of the STS-30 launch, which is what you can hear from him on the DVD. On a loosely related subject, I think the earliest launch Hugh Harris did (I like to call him the 'Jack King of the 80s') was the Viking launches in the 70's.
I remember watching this live on CBS that morning. They delayed 40 minutes for fog and it was still hazy an foggy at launch as you can see. This was when they blocked out air-to-ground comm between the astronauts and Mission Control during the classified DOD missions in the 1980's. However, CBS found a way to hear the transmissions, although rather fuzzy. You could hear Shaw say "Liftoff!" and then "Roll program" and then "Columbia, go a throttle up" from the CAPCOM but without reply.
AINT NOTHING WORSE THAN BREWSTER SHAW.....
THE BODYFLAP NEARLY SCRAPED THE LAKEBED

But, ceredigio, I never saw any video of George Diller doing the STS-30 commentary. Only Hugh Harris.
