  • Chinese story with Indian twist :) It's about Tripitaka's journey to India to bring Bhuddist scriptures back to China during the Tang dynasty. He must have been getting close to India at this time. In his memoir (The Great Tang Dynasty Record of the Western Regions, Đại Đường Tây Vức Ký) he recalled passing through 128 countries and/or states. It was the 8th century AD. Country borders were very different then.

  • interesting

  • @maitp You are very correct. It took him years to get to India and along the way his journey was very harsh, starvation, drought, etc. Tay Vo Ky is just a story a Chinese monk based his journey. All the different stories and characters is a metaphore toward buddist teaching, you have to know alot about buddhist to grasp the full concept. I have to give the writer a lot of credit because his story can be seen as entertaining and yet very meaningful.

  • Chinese drama "Pilgrimage to the West", dubbed in Vietnamese. The original novel was written in the 16th century, and its about a Chinese monk's legendary journey to India in the 8th century.
