Just bought this gun in a Public Defender model with a 2 1/2 chamber - haven't shot it yet tho. After watching this distruction... I think I'm gonna give it a try right now! Thanks for the vid!
laugh if you will at this handy weapon, but, at 8 feet away in the living room @ 2am, .410 no6 shot..will strip the face of an intruder off his skull. when your in panic mode--you just need to point it in the general direction. this gun is perfect.
its a defensive close range pistol. most altercations take place 1-5 feet away...no one needs a weapon that will shoot the wings off of a fly at 50 meters when it comes to personal defense in the home. this gun was never designed for high accuracy, it was designed to lay down a lot of lead at close range with minimal input, although at 20 meters, the 410 slug or the .45 long colt groups nicely for a 2.5 inch barrel.
@roadragecustoms I'm actually surprised at how well the bigger shot was grouping at the range you're firing. I'm not a fan of the judges at all due to having to be rifled in a pistol platform...and I would -never- sacrifice that much accuracy for something that shoots a measly two different rounds.
Needless to say though your grouping with what appeared to be 000 wasn't too bad. Wasn't anything near the kind of accuracy you'd get from a decent .410 shotgun, but it's surprising for the judge.
This may be a stupid question, but where do u get ur targets or what type are they? I see the holes turning green against a black surface. That's really nice for recognition.
@Gnostic279 Not a stupid question, but a common one. I was using Birchwood Casey Shoot-N-C instant feedback self-adhesive targets. I bought them a Wal Mart.
@roadragecustoms Its because communist State of California considers it a short barreled shot gun which is illegal, LEO's cant even get there hands on one.
@MrRocketman19 It is legal to possess yes. It is just illegal to sell this weapon in California even for a dealer. If you have a relative out of state who can buy one, their FFL dealer can transfer to yours and they give to you as a gift. I believe that is legal.
When I explain the judge to people I ask what they'd rather by hit by. A few .177 bb gun shots or a hollow point 45colt that expands to the size of a quarter and passes completely through you.
Then I ask them after that why they think the .410 is a defensive weapon. I've shot a judge, I love the gun and think it's an absolutely blast and very cool. I would never consider it for home defense though, just a trail gun when in snake country or something to take camping to have fun with.
@alllfro I wanted stainless. I really wanted 3" chamber & 6" barrel. I settled for the black. I bought it from a local gun store called Big Woods Goods. Check out wvvw. bigwoodsgoods. com
@roadragecustoms Not your fault, thanks anyway for the link. I gotta get one of these... I just bought a springfield XDm so i can't get one right now... but the time is coming...
why not use .410 #4 ammo that is ideal for cqc and home defense instead of the #7 that the beginning of the video showed? at that distance, the #7 looked like it did shitty...
Youve got to realize this gun is made for self defense. That means close quarters. So 10-15 feet is about all your getting when using shotgun shells. But inside that threat zone, kiss it goodbye
I have the 21/2 inch public defender and at 15 yards with a 265 grain bonded core hp would rip a man in half, you would be dead before your body hit the ground.
@roadragecustoms I think he means the recoil. Looks like a fun gun. I got a double barrel 12 gauge coach gun with small barrels and its fun to shoot. I like the Raging Ultra Lite version with the 6" barrel.
@roadragecustoms How much discharge of debris and flame is there in the small gap between the cylinder and the barrel? Common problem with revolvers- the less expensive (greater toleranced fit) the worse the problem.
@Gideonslc I never had a problem with that, but I wouldn't hold the front of the cylinder & fire it. I never shot any 45 ammo through it before I sold it either.
I just bought a judge magnum at a gun show today here in houston. Love it, especially since im getting old and I dont even need to aim it. I needed something to keep next to the bed so when I wake up groggy i just point and pull.
@Speedbeetle07 its not, he just chose to cock it every time. I had a judge, but traded it for a M&P 40. Great bedside gun, in car or snake gun. Dont shoot anything but federal buck though. Too much spread and no stopping power past 4 feet with bird shot.
@roadragecustoms it spreads fast mainly because the barrel (while it is short) is rifled. Rifled barrels will cause the shot to kinda tornado out. If the barrel was smooth it would be better, but illegal.
@Speedbeetle07 Yes. The bird shot will only penetrate about an inch inside 4 feet away... Just enough to hurt someone, but not stop them from doing whatever it was that made you shoot them. The 410 slug is okay, but not really the purpose of this gun. either .45 long colt or fed 000 or 00 buck 410 to kill/stop. I have a video on my page of the bird shot vs water. Looks cool but at 25 ft I doubt it would even break skin.
Sorry. I liked that angle. No one was behind the camera. I wanted that side of the gun up so "The Judge" could be seen. I didn't mean to point it at you.
It wasn't just a crossword puzzle, the other side of the newspaper page was an article about firearms, carry permits, or something.
Thanks for watching & commenting. I hope you don't mind a little sarcasm.
Better vid than most here. Good target views. In the future, tell us what ammo, what range, and update us - as you change - when you change either one.
Last time I shot it, I tried to measure the distance as I was shooting. At 25 feet, I hit the target & the measuring tape on the ground. Measuring tapes are great with pin holes in them. I don't remember what kind of target loads I was using. Next time I shoot it on video, I'll tell the type of ammo & distance. That's a good idea. Thanks for the comments!
You're right. I haven't even bought any 45LC ammo yet because of that. I meant with the shot shells. Spreads so much you cant miss. I haven't bought any rifled slugs either. But, yes they are for smooth bore shotguns. The Judge is a gimmick but still fun to shoot. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, sorry.
The Judge is more of a gimmick. It's fun to shoot, but with only a 3" barrel, shot scatters over a huge area if you aren't very close to your target. Unless of course, you use 45LC or 410 slugs.

@pkalldayy It is. It shoots both 45LC & 410 shotgun shells. It has a rifled barrel so it isn't classified as a short barrel shotgun.
