People mistake the fingerpoke of doom for what it actually was. It gets blamed for being a cheap way to get ratings and press for a big time match (Hogan v. Nash). But the whole reason for it was for the nWo to reform and this would give Goldberg a number of guys to fight before Hogan. He would go through Steiner, Hall, Nash, and eventually win the belt from Hogan.
