  • good work =]im trying to learn an etude and its very tedious u have given me hope

    /

  • @kittymime I'm still working on it. I've got this part down pretty well now, still having troubles with some of the second part. I went to college on trumpet, so I know exactly how it can take awhile to get an etude right.

  • @bnovota thank you for posting this video you gave me alot of confidents on my lessons a few weeks ago, and because of your great video i did fantastic. Thank you

  • @kittymime Thanks! I'm glad you're doing well.

  • Hey! Great job! I started the viola in the 7th grade (back in 1998 LOL) and I dropped it after a year. But seeing this has inspired me to bring that little bugger out of the closet and give it a little TLC =] I wish you the best of luck in your teaching endeavors. If it weren't for enthusiastic and curious musicians to pass down the love and gift of music, the world would be, well, nothing quite so special. Keep it up!

  • Very pleasant! Thank you. I am 70 years old, and just started practicing on a viola a month ago. I have no previous musical experience, and I go online to listen to the most horrible and the most satisfying viola music. Keep up the excellent work!!

  • I'd like to hear you play your trumpet as well. Thank you for your videos. Such an encouragement, as I started playing violin 6 months ago (and I'm 56).

  • i can see the frets :D

  • I think that's tape. lol

Viol- instruments don't usually have frets.

  • @omercanbakkalci Sorry for my late reply... it's a sticker called Don't Fret. I have tapes also, but I like the sticker better. It's been really great for learning how to shift.

  • nice i like it!

i'm starting the viola myself as my aunt bought me one a few years ago but i wonder if i'm too old to learn it

  • Never too old to start. Determination got me where I am on my primary instrument (trumpet) and determination will be why I can learn the viola. It's never too late!

  • I think you have really good sound for not having played very long. One thing that helps me with tone, is to slow down and really play a passage really slow in every part of the bow. (frog, middle and tip) Forte and piana, but always making sure the sound is clear and connected. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING WITH AN ENSEMBLE IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS IF KEEP UP THE HARD WORK. :)

  • Thank you for the feedback.... I was actually thinking about that the other day when I was practicing, about how I haven't been focusing on bow position.

  • My teacher got these 1 cm. bouncy balls and told us to place them on the fingerboard with the ball and place our fingers on top of it, from there practicing the vabrato technique. it has helped alot.

  • Wow, that's a really awesome suggestion. I shall give that a try! Thanks!

  • i would advise you to learn vabrato.

    and be more relaxed.

you're doing great for a beginner!

  • Thank you, I have been trying to work on being more relaxed. I have been doing the preliminary wrist exercises that are written on the inside cover of the Mueller Rusch books... "swing into vibrato". I figure when I get the finger patterns down better I'll work on making vibrato. Thanks again!

  • i would just recommend you let your bow hand be more relaxed. but otherwise, great job.

  • Thanks for the feedback!
