Between them, Wanda Landowska and the lesser-known Violet Gordon Woodhouse revolutionised early keyboard technique and brought the harpsichord from obscurity back to the public attention and acceptance during the early years of the 20th century. It would be a treat indeed to hear her playing her wonderful Pleyel harpsichord recorded with today's technology!
@peteacher52 I agree with you. However, there are some snobbish jerks who lift up their noses at the thought of hearing a revival harpsichord. They fail to realize that Wanda pretty much help bring the harpsichord back to life, it was pretty much dead during her time. If it wasn't for her and the piano manufacturers who had the guts to venture into creating new harpsichords, we would never have the modern harpsichords we have now. I honestly do enjoy hearing revival instruments.
@DiegoVerisi : The Dolmetsch family in the U.K. were also pioneers in the revival of 'ancient instruments'. But, yes, musicians and other professionals often insist on that which their lecturers at university taught and for which they had to sit for in examinations. After all, many university lecturers, akin with school teachers merely appear 'bright'.
Wanda was brilliant! And love the picture of her with the cat!
