I very much enjoy Beirut. Luckily i found it on stumble, and am in the process of getting their entire works. I love the style, i do. But for anyone who claims that music made from a synthesizer or from a laptop, computer what have you, is not music, i strongly suggest Szamar Madar by Venetian Snares.
@cocomilkshakex aw man i know people like that too.. its a shame what the music world has become today.. autotune, beats from a computer, dubstep is actually ok but the rest.. just shite :/
Just found these guys, love anything oompa oompa sounding anything that sounds like it should be in a Jean Pierre Juenet movie and Im there. Do they do lots of stuff like this or is this just ther recent album?
@sigwart thank you, very informative, Ive been into gypsie folk, polka, oompa, flamenco...etc for a good while now, its surprising ive only just come across beirut, theyre so fucking good
I heard this song on a local french radio not so long ago. (I knew it before though I commented this video 1 year ago ^^ ), which made it even more magical and unexpected for me. It made me very happy and gave me hope again. Yes, radios still broadcast musical gems :)
@alexbigode1 Pues Lisboa no me queda muy lejos, si me coincide bien hasta puedo ir a verlos . Luego, no sé si los músicos que lo acompañan son europeos pero el cantante creo que es estadounidense ; ). Veo en tu página que tenemos gustos musicales parecidos, Camera Obscura, Antony and the Jonhsons... :::))) Cuando tenga un momento veré los otros vídeos que tienes...
how does condons voice over anything but acoustic, musical, sound begin to seem "magical" or "trance-like", if you want magical trance like electronic music take a look at Merriweather Post Pavillion or Strawberry Jam from Animal Collective. animal collective couldnt do balkan folk, just like beirut cant do electronopop
what a fucked up comparison that is weak on so many levels but i think everyone understands what is meant by it (2 of my favorite bands, not slandering either)
speedfrk 220, I was thinking the EXACT same thing when i heard the prostitute song! i love classic Beirut! Elephant Gun all the way! That vid is also BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never EVER tire of it! =) after a long stressful day at work, i literally come home and pop in some Beirut and i am instantly tranced.
i like this style much better. when he plays songs like my night with the prostitute i feel like its too electronic. i love electronic music but i love beirut for being so.. so... organic, if you will. the flying club cup was in my opinion, was some of his greatest work, especially all the live stuff they did when they just walked around the city playing the music
@speedfrk220 i like the electronic stuff too. i think the "organic" (as you put it) stuff is genius! but the electronic stuff is kind of magical and trance-like, it's really beautiful. but the "organic" stuff is so strong and real.
@speedfrk220 you make an excellent point, beirut are at their best when organic, and they're soul-grabbingly organic, "we-drink-to-die" organic. if that makes any sense.
@speedfrk220 Zach Condon is a excepcionly good musician. He can do beautiful sounds with electronic music or with music more acoustic. I prefer the acoustic music like "Nantes" or "Carousels", but this another style is not bad. Is a very good music for a person who likes electro-music. For a person who likes the other style of Beirut is only good. I think that you. The Flying Club Cup is his best work, in my opinion.
@speedfrk220 his electronic style is pretty great and reminds me somewhat of Bjork during her Vespertine/Volta years. But I agree his style with traditional instruments feels much more fleshed out, wholly arranged and similar to an orchestration. his electro stuff is great but for his earlier work (like the flying club cup that you mentioned), there's just nothing like it
I just discovered this song.. and im loving it already.. its just so um.. catchiee and tunniee and lalalaiee.. i dont know and flowieee..i like his voice 2 =]
Aaah tell me if I'm wrong, but there's toy piano in this song ?! wow that's just awesome ... It adds something mhh ... soft and everything put together is beyond amazing ! (love the accordion too !)

TheHappydead 7 months ago
@TheHappydead yes, front zach condon is from my state of new mexico but his influence
comes from his travels to the balkan peninsula where he became fascinated with there
style of music. He returned to new mexico to attend UNM in albuquerque to further his studies.
Beirut got its start in sante fe and albuquerque where there is a huge artist population.
