I'm trying to make my own version at the moment. What effects did you use on the voice? Is it a slight slap back reverb or delay? Or a plate reverb? Slight Chorus?

Just one overdub on the rhythm guitar with the acoustic in the right channel or any more tracks?

Did you intentionally play the g-string in the chorus? I think in the original it's left out?!

@mikemillzy92 You absolutely DO NOT have to be born like that. All it takes is practice. I'm someone who has no natural singing ability, and even though i still don't consider myself to be a great singer i'm much better than i was when i started. I knew i wanted to be a better singer so i worked hard at it. Luckily there is no easier thing in the world to practice. It takes no special equipment. All you have to do is sing, listen very, very hard to great singers and sing some more.

@141natedogg I figured most of it out. I've performed the song in cover bands for a number of years. My playing of it slowly evolved to the way im doing it now. It sounds pretty close to the way the Beatles do it to me. But i'm also sure ive talked about it with other musicians and taken some of their input on how to play it too.

good production, instruments, haircuts, etc., but...sounds too 'white' to me.

@zSanction Gretsch makes great guitars. New or used doesn't matter as long as the instrument doesn't have any serious problems. What matters is how it sounds and feels. But i wouldnt worry too much about stuff like that yet. Worry about your guitar playing. People get way too hung up on gear. What matters the most is the player. So keep practicing. And keep listening to great music. Examine it very closely. Really think hard about what makes it great. Then eventually you'll sound great.

@Kaneownzu Good ear. That's because Ringo didn't play drums on Dear Prudence. Paul did. Ringo had temporarily left the band at the time of the original recording.

And although our drummer improvised that part of the song, i think he captured the vibe of it pretty well.

@thedfunkd It's a tricky little finger-picking part, so tab would only get you half way there. But there's some instructional videos that people have posted on youtube that are probably the easiest way to learn the song. Check them out.

@gejuje It's difficult for me too. When i was recording it i also realized that it's played pretty much constantly throughout the song...no pauses....no resting. So i couldn't do any studio trickery and split it up into multiple takes. I just had to get one perfect take...like the old days. It was tough.

@roiabir No effects anywhere except maybe a little reverb. A lot of the stuff is double-tracked though, meaning i recorded it once and then played the same thing again over the top of it. The main finger-picking part of the song is both an electric and an acoustic playing the same thing.
