I think his life was a testament to the idea that adult humans take this life way too fuckin' seriously, but none of them seriously care about life. Order, profits, how can we control your minds tonight, how can we stop you from opening your mind tomorrow, how can we think for you, why can't you just do what you're told?
An interesting person. A life of tragedy. I met him in 1981, and we spoke for a few minutes. Sad that he snitched on the very lawyers who helped him to avoid prison, and another time, snitched on the Weather Underground who got him out of prison.
All of the dangers which you have feared are unnecessary productions of your mind. Whether you experience heaven or hell, remember that it is your mind which creates them...
@lynnedufresne no it was 1968 in the 80s dr. tim was useing this music as an introduction when he gave lectures also give peace a chance he didnt talk about lsd much more about migrateing to other planets when dr. tim died the moody blues recorded timothy learys alive i wonder what happened to that recording john lodge said in his filmfax interview thAT HE DIDNT TAKE LSD WITH THE OTHER GUYS IN THE GROUP .

LSD has the potential to show you things about the nature of realit, your own reality, that you never imagined you had the capacity to perceive. It doesn't just GIVE you answers, it offers the necessary questions that somehow we've forgotten to ask since moving from childhood. It takes away the part of your mind that rationalizes away the 'magic' behind the scenes we see from day to day. and Holy Fuck my brother, there is Magic.
All I can say is "Tune in, Turn on, Dropout". As a person who started high School in 1969, LSD, Mescaline, and Peyote, done in the right environment, are very mind expanding and gave me revelations that I otherwise may never have experienced. Dr Leary was a genius and this song is a beautiful tribute to what he believed in.
This song was recorded in 67. He did enjoy the song, the moody blues were going to do a benefit to get him out of prison in 70 but the Weather Underground broke him out first. We loved Leary and the Weathermen for all they did, and tried to do.
I attended a couple of Dr. Leary's lectures and always found this song so relevant to the liberation of our minds from all the nonsense dogma and controllers of human freedom.
i agree with bluelotusdevi! I love Timothy Leary, wish he was still around in my prime time of love and spirituality. He wouldn't make me feel terrible for wanting what I want. if that makes sense. his loves lives on :)
He's amazing.... wish i'd been alive during his time! i tried out his instructions in 'the psychedelic experience'... the experience was incredible and beautifuly enlightening
Go to your window pane and type his name in Wikipedia. And by the way, the hippies WERE right......and the establishment was wrong, at least that's what Lucy told me when I asked her about the sky with diamonds. Live long my friend.
I bet when he died his mind went off in a trip. he found the ultimate out of body experience, as his ashes float around in space, his mind is even higher.
I ain't talkin' 'bout no revolution! I ain't talkin' about no demonstration! I'm talking about having a good time. I'm talking about having a good time this summer!
His legacy, I believe, will be looked upon as a mixed bag; while he did help popularize LSD (which was a good thing), he was too much the showman, having lost the objectivity which made him a good researcher. In the long run, he may have set back research, which is only now making its way back into the mainstream, but has years to go, before it gains credibiliy with all but a slice of the medical community, which is the prelude to acceptance as a sacrament (which would be very good thing).
True, true, but hindsight is 20/20. I think he had a vision, a very potent idea how he wanted society to change. Unfortunately the idea was a bit naive, I don't know if Tim was, but times changed and his influence diminished. Perhaps he should have foreseen the "end of the 60's" but he was so caught up in the momentum that he had a hard time to look objectively at things. I think he gave himself wholly to the Idea of a spiritual Revolution en masse. It was both foolish and brave.
I don't know what you mean by "this music was made after his death" This track was released in 1968 & Timothy Leary didn't die until 1996. The song is more allegorical than literal with a number of 60's lsd / pop culture references.
@Intergalaxy Wrong. He was still alive when this was made back in the mid 70s or so--it was about the end of psychedelia. Look it up; Leary died much later, in the early 90s or so?
@Intergalaxy song was done late 60's, Leary was still alive and in his prime, apparently one of his works was called something like the book of the dead, the lyrics "timothy learys' dead", refer to this book and not that hes dead
To be honest, the little man who sold you thrills along the pier never really excited me that much, but this track, and in particular the instrumental section in the middle, is superb.
I read an article years ago that said TL was very popular with the other inmates when he was in prison. He was thought of as a great guy who helped people with their problems whenever he could. I can't remember what magazine it was or when it was written, but I thought all you Timothy fans out there might appreciate the insight.
There are some amazing chemists out there right now. It would seem to me that they have gone back to the original recipe. The stuff now is the best I've had ever and I started in 1975. 20 hour trips. R.I.P. Tim.
This is what we need today to get us back to what we should be!!! This took us out of vietnam and today our insain President is pushing us toward WWIII!!! WWIII will end our time hear on Earth!! Lets stop this Insanity!!
Maybe this song was the homage to Leary you all seem to hear, but I detect a touch of irony: "Along the coast you'll hear them boast", "trips around the brain [aka a touristy trip around the bay]", etc.
Above all, "Brings you back the same day" is definitely taking the piss. There are no guaranteed returns from Acid, and even if you do get back you may have to pass through eternity on the way.
Leary was interesting, Dr Death less so, but Acid is something altogther different...
The Government made up all of the negative side effects of LSD! Timothy Leary lived well into his 70's and was very cognizant of what was going on in the world! Most people in their 70's are in poor health and suffer Alzheimer's!
I know it is incredible how less is known about these sacraments and their history instead cultural myth's and prejudice. Prohibition and mass hysteria hasn't saved anyone in my humble opinion and clearly doesn't work. From my personal experience, reading The Psychedelic Experience, Tim Leary's Tibetan book of the dead inspired manual or sort of map through the psychedelic state was actually very calming and insuring to my mindstate at the time and led me down
I can dig ya real deep man. There is something we miss here isn't there? We can neither prove or disprove who really spoke to God or not. I mean, maybe there is a theology out there where God really did tell someone what is to be done! How can we be certain?
the only thing we can be certain of is energy, and it can never be created or destroyd and that we are energy...so we have always been here...so we in essence are god....maybe not the most inteligent expression,at this current state...but we are source energy....and hell is only there if we think it is,for thoughts manifest...so we make our reality over time.....mine has a "heaven" in it no hell....what are you all manifesting?
I wish all could accept the fact we have know way of knowing for sure the existance of our being in this life, and that most of our problems can be solved with "the divinity that lies within" but not solved by man-made religion telling us what god or gods want us to do without question.
Dr Leary was trying to explain vertual reality to bunch of dummies at the Whole Life Ex, San Francisco, 1991. He went outside for a ciggie and we all gathered around the great man. I was able to ask him, "is what you're talking about like in the movie "Brainstorm" and he exclaimed, "yes!" It was a true Hellen Keller moment.....loved that man.
turn on, tune in, drop out, is there life after youth?
today I'm 51! I SHOULD drop some acid then maybe this rap crap, "high" versus "ola" would make some sense..thanks for the tune..we should all listen to the tunes of our "youth"...
But that would make love the New World Order. Best to leave it and go back to the land. The time will come when you will see 'civilazation' for the illusion it is and move on. You can start your own if you have the willingness to sacrifice the 'comforts' that are offered by the New World Order. I can leave the hustle and bustle and the fancy technology behind on a seconds notice. Can you?
Pretty trippy video. I saw Tim speak in person twice. The first time was in 1967 at a lecture at UCLA. He was dynamic, and charismatic, with a compelling message. Years later I saw him again in Trenton, NJ at City Gardens where he was touring and debating G. Gordon Liddy, I believe. He was pretty much a broken man, by then--a result not of his prodigious drug use, but rather the unending harassment and torture at the hands of the US criminal justice system.
OMG I thought I was the only person left who knew about 4-way dbl barrel orange sunshine! (Plus, I first owned this song on an EIGHT TRACK.) I'll just limp off to the tar pit now...
The Moody Blues very best !!!

I was able to ask him, "is what you're talking about like in the movie "Brainstorm" and he exclaimed, "yes!" It was a true Hellen Keller moment.....loved that man.

Down with the New World Order, Up with Love!

'Down with the New World Order, Up with Love!'
