I would rather use...fresh spices....than dry powders...it taste bettter. One more thing mam.. two table spoon of masala is too much....really too much. I would never use that much masala even in my dinner recipe. 1/2 table spoon would be enough, when boiled well with tea before pouring milk and sugar.
This is the best Chai Tea instructional video I've seen & I've watched many. You are very clear & make it easy. Thank you! I cannot wait to try your recipe.
Well anyway, I had tried this recipe today & it turned out really really good! Blv me, I never had such an amazing cup of tea before...... Thank you so much, Alia!
@jmeic826 I would recomend making it hot first, then add it to a blender with some ice but it tastes better hot and the ice dilute the lovely sweet and spicy taste from the tea.
ohmgee!i love the calligraphy on the opening title, alia!and yay! a recipe to make this tea myself!my daughter and i will have to make this together!and i agree:there really is no substitute for cardamom!it is one of those spices that is so very unique!and LOVE your teapot!lastly:i was in south seattle with my dh yesterday and we drove by a small market that sold halal meat!I got so excited, because we do not have many middleastern markets in the tacoma area!
Hi Alia! I love chai tea and masala tea! I currently make it with a cardamon flavored tea from Ceylon and I use a Soy creamer! Your recipe adds the black pepper and that is the only ingredient I dont use! Your tea looks luscious! Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you very much for this! I did not have the same spices, but using your preparation, and the spices that I did (using a pinch of garam masala since I don't have any cardamom) I now have a pretty decent cup of tea.
I make masala chai everyday. Of course, taste is highly subjective and in India, masala chai is made quite differently - more tea leaves for sure and tea is boiled (horror!)). However, Try coarsely ground fresh spices which give you a much better result than mixing the factory-ground and possibly stale spices. I know this because I have personally tried all the shortcuts and come to accept the bit of effort needed to make good masala chai.
normally we add more of tea and less of spice when making chai. i prefer just whole cardamon and ginger in my chai. love chai! cant wake up without it.
It looks amazing, its just such a shame it takes so long to make :( if i want a nice warm drink, all i have to do is press a button on the cappucino machine, is it really worth the 20 minutes in the kitchen to make this?
@Dwergideon it actually only take 10 minutes to make! once you prepare the spice mix, you can just make a big batch and keep it your kitchen cabinet. To make the tea itself, it is just 10 mn.
@cookingwithalia Okay, thank you very much for replying. I might actually try this, it really looks amazing, but overall i'm too lazy to spend a lot of time on a drink ;-)
@sohahamdani it's Anise powder. you can click the link below the video (it says "To print this recipe, click the following link..." to get the written recipe.
I have a "Chai tea" tea bag. Can I substitute any of the ingredients your mentioning with the contents of this tea bag? Thank you!

Where do you get the "anise" powder? And do you have to use loose tea? Thanks.

Can I use black tea teabags? If yes, how many tea bags I would need?
Dimanta 5 months ago
@Dimanta I dont think it's easy to infuse tea bags in milk. You should try and see. this tea works best with loose tea!
cookingwithalia 5 months ago
@Dimanta Just put the tea bag in and let it brew before adding the milk
Blanca85 5 months ago
@Blanca85 Thanks! Ill try that before I get some loose black tea. So many ingredients to buy but its worth it!
