Wow, this is a really nice piece! I've just done my grade 8 piano exam and Gary Ryan was the examiner, didn't relise how lucky I was :D he better of passed me tho.. :P
Heard him play this at North Norfolk Music Festival ,amazing . Anyone who goes to see him play will not be disappointed , you will though if you miss any chance to do so ! He incorporates a broad range from classical, latin american, spanish, and his own compositions. A magical evening still going around my head, thanks for putting this particular piece on.
@yaisum thats because of the style of music he is playing with contstant hammer ons, i suggest you dont even think of critisising this unless you can play this same ridiculously hard piece and keep your thumb down under the dge of the neck.
and get the same beautiful tone and quality he does.
Steady on. I know vocal inflection is hard to pick up via text, but I really thought my comment was obviously a gentle jibe. Of course you can't play effects like that with your thumb behind the neck. Neither is it necessary. I presumed that my subsequent caveat had made that point abundantly clear, but evidently not. Also, not being able to play the piece does not preclude me from critiCising him (which I wasn't). Can Roger Federer's coach beat him at tennis? No, but he still critiCises him.
@yaisum Suffice it to say: Thumbs up! I think we all agree that this is a remarkable piece played with panache. I don't suppose Gary will make a Benga Beat Light for those of us with five thumbs on each hand-:)
@pederfi Absolutely. A great piece, wonderfully played. Haha, I've just caught the finger snap at 0.29! For me, it is vital for virtuosi like this all to have a sense of humour about their work. Thumbs up, as you say.
@yaisum And a lovely person. He adjudicated some of my classes at the Southampton music festival and was my tutor at the World Guitar Festival this week. Brilliant teacher, very patient!
Hi Gary, it was a privilege to be at the London premiere of your latest composition. Only two words: truly sensational. You are still pushing out the boundaries of creativity and what can be done on the classical guitar. Keep doing what you're doing, you are an inspiration to guitarists of all levels. Thank you for the superb recital. Best wishes, Christine
Gary's performance in the 2020 Vision concert at the Bolivar Hall on 24th June was only surpassed when he London Premiered his new composition "Benga Beat"; a true master at one with his instrument drawing in his audience with suble colour expositions of complex cross rhythms and tonal inflections that had quality and crispness. His use of every percussionist part of the guitar astounds. This is another groundbreaking composition and in my mind ranks alongside "Generator". Simply brilliant.
I can't stop watching this - it is utterly brilliant!

And Justin Beiber gets 100,000 times more views than this? I don't want to live in this world any more...
