They have software now that allows non-player characters to WALK. They can use this software to help teach real-life bipedal robots how to walk. I'm not sure about the processing requirements, but if you watch the newscientist website they have talked about this. It's remarkable what they can do. I'm still stunned by all of the progress in the past 10 years. It's so easy to get left in the dust these days. If you blink years have gone by and you feel like you're living 50 years ago.
Still can't do arms, whats the point with natural looking hair and clothes movement when the character looks like they have fractured both the arms from the elbows?
Very realistic. Any game using this will still have to be good, though. Graphics can't turn an awful game into a good one (although the reverse is true).
I believe these are tech demos, testing what the technology can do, how it flows and such. Make it possible to show off. The real content comes later.
Excellent video, I'm amazed with the graphics and the simulation algorithms that were used here. though is this motion captured or performance captured, or is it purely 3d animated?
CCP is ahead of the curve as usual. Just the tech demo's they've shown for the lighting technologies and clothing are visually ahead of everything else except the latest CryEngines.
well the reason why most mmos look like they are 5-6 years behind is that 1 player games only have to do the gfx for one person in an mmo you have over 100 ppl in one spot and eve is rly pushing it with over 2k ppl in one spot and not have lag so i think mmo are a head in pure performance try having over 2k players in lets say assassins creed doing random stuff and have no lag
I agree that CCP and EvE online have come so far when it comes to graphics(2 graphics updates is alot more then other games.) But I already play EvE online and other MMO's in 1080p which is an HD resolution.
@trentonx I don't know of any games that use havok cloth - At least, not as shown in Havok's own demo reel.
The only "game" in existence which even remotely uses cloth (that i can think of) is Second Life - Which uses, as far as i know, a very simple implementation of havok for that kind of stuff.
definitely have an e-boner..

Imagine what games on PC could look like if they took full advantage of what the PC has and werent being held back by console hardware.

@Trimutius meh not that much. it's pretty cool, more impressive that ir runs ingame in an mmo setting. but nothing new.
watch the havok cloth sim for what 1 player games can allready do.
in face CCP is still 2-3 years behind what games can do in real time.
it's just that most mmos out nowadays are 5-6 years behind.
no wait 6 yearsa ago was the xbox 360, I meant more like 8-9 years behind.
But yeah look up gdc havok cloth.
droooolll
but seriously only ccp seem to want to push mmos into HD
