And it is a ceremony which still exists in some places despite repression and religious disapproval ! Certainly worthy of more investigation. But I`m not sure its really a `stage-performance`
I find for me I have to completely relax and it doesn't usually hurt after and I do some pretty crazy stuff... you just have to let go...
Otherwise when I teach Zaar I get my students to do slow big hair circles to get the neck warmed up and then I slowly increase the pace to medium and make sure they do circles to both sides... lots of slow Zaaring to get your neck muscles used to the sensation then build up.
my mom is a belly dancer.. she said this zar is to rid of evil spirits is that right? also ive always wondered how i can do this or how does one do this?
Yes that is right, metaphyiscally the fast movements are susspossed to overwhelm the spirits, making them leave the body.
All you have to do is watch videos, learn about the folklore behind them, and take it easy, because I have seen some dancers bend all the way backwards, and there are certain ways to hold your neck so it doesn't get hurt.

I hope the ZAR never disappears; however, I do not see it as a subject for entertainment. It is too spiritual for that, too personal.
