  • This is why he's such a good drummer

  • at around 4:50 he plays a pattern with 2 sets of chokes on the hats and one set of chokes on the crash, then he plays a fill that starts of with a crash hit.... what is the pattern of the fill...can anyone please help me with that... thanks

  • I thought it said Watermelon..

  • i hate it when sound from video is little off in especially tutorials where you need to hear them...

  • that 1 person is justine bieber!!hahaha.. :)

  • Love it

  • Show off... T.T

  • This isn't even hard, it's just a quad fill in sextuplets. He uses them way too much, god be freakin creative

  • @explodingpimp vid or it's hard :P

  • i love this song so much

  • idk but his ear phones look like shrimp

  • it sounds like the bass drum is getting hit 4 times when i see him hit it twice, what gives?

  • Portnoy! A metal head rocker trapped inside a fat layer of prog! :)

  • Haha. He uses the words "kind of" almost more than those wonderful drumfills.

    What a great drummer.

  • hes jesus

  • This water mark sucks dick..at least its not the one from the Office though..

The video would be perfect if it was in sync, Portnoy is a great teacher.

  • Even when he slows it down, I'd probably shit my pants if I tried to play it

  • genius

  • Can someone explain the fill he does at 5:00?

  • What the fu... This man's sick..XD How the f*ck he invent this things?xD

  • they love to confuse us...lol

MIKE RULES!!!!!!!!

  • Muito bom, exelente, inesplicavel!

  • Portnoy's fuckin dirty at drums. Fuck me I suck.

  • This is from Drum of thought?

  • No. "In Constant Motion". He shows how to play different songs - which is kinda hard. Great DVD.

  • @testigodeportnoy is "Mike Portnoy in constant motion"

  • I think the switch between the two parts is hard. Mike doesn't really explains that well (for me that is). Is there a double bass stroke as well (in between)?

  • @HazzeNL

It seems like there is one stroke inbetween... As he says, the rest of the band comes in on an upbeat of the drumpattern, which is a downbeat for the other instruments. If you just stop with the snare-tom/bass-bass/snare-tom x2 pattern, you land on a downbeat. So it would seem logical that he adds a hit before the accents part(when he hits the hi-hat). If you count aloud when he does that pattern, it sounds: 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 AND hi-hat. Seems to me he adds one bass note befor the hi'h

  • I think it's so funny how intensely they break down every little part and what signature it's in and how it's blending PRECISELY with the guitar and bass to create a feel. Think about that and then realize the average song length is like, 10 minutes lol. Then.... 8-9 songs per album.... then an ablum every year or two.

SO MUCH THOUGHT lol. It's what makes the mesh and the music amazing

  • @dooka008 Then when you realize that for the Train of Thought album, according to Mike Portnoy, they took about THREE WEEKS to write all the music....only three weeks....

Domination of skill and artistry on every level.

  • This is fucking incredible...just awesome

  • what i hate about this video is the stupid watermark on the lesson that discomforts my watching!!!

  • @baskoroindrayana why are you watching this to watch it? why not just listen to the sexiness that is his voice/drumming?

  • the most knoledgable drummer

  • i totally agree

  • in this video he looks like bonham a lttle bit

  • His level of limb interdependence is incredible. His feet can work either as a seperate rhythm from his hands or as an extension of his hands. Phenomenal drummer.

  • the God of Drums!!

  • He actually IS a machine...i've finally had to come to that conclusion :p

  • I agree. :P

  • es el mejor, lejos! :P
