@dogeymon83 The original title sequence, from the episodes before it started being fan-recorded, on KTMA. So it's probably somewhere in the first 5 episodes.
I wish Trace had never cut his hair. I loved the long pony tail. Sure he had a better "mad scientist" look with it short and messy, but I still like it long. I guess they figured Dr. Forrester wasn't cool enough to have a pony tail.
Anyone notice that the mr potato head that trace is dressing up kinda looks like his later played Dr. Forrester character? I mean between the mustache and the large green glasses.
Also I dig the use of he-man figure carriers in the opening :D. (the red painted bone lizards for the younger crowd, they used to hold a bunch of action figures by the waist, almost every kid had one)
That's because the financially-strapped KTMA gave MST3K only about $250 per show for a budget. KTMA stood for K-Twin Metro Area since it was a local cable station in Minnesota.
I wish there was something like this on my areas public acsess channel, the only thing we get are student-made health films from local high schools....each one more missrebel than the last
It's from the very first episode, which was based around "Invaders from the Deep", a compilation of Stingray episodes. The episode isn't available any more.
Wow, I had no idea there was such a major difference between the KTMA-era S.O.L. and the S.O.L. of the cable years. I would have thought it would have a crude "dog bone" design.
HOLY CRAP!!! This is amazing for their low budget and the 80's. I can;t beleive how much of the later shows look like this! They have the music, the plot, the robot roll call and the satilite of love! Everything that the high budget newer shows have!! WOW, and they even got the music!! Amazing!!
Public access kicks ass! We had a local PA channel in Valrico where I lived and it had tons of great and original programming. Nothing as good as MST3K though! Joel and that hair! He looked like Tommy Shaw in that clip with the duster! :P
I literally choked on my gum when I saw that. Good God, I'm not sure how to react or even if there is a reaction that could capture what I'm feeling right now.
Wow! But so much survived intact, which shows you how great it really was. Crow, for one, hardly changed! Thanks for showing us outlanders how it started!
Here's something I thought I should point out:Since KO4 Gypsy was referred to her regular name Gypsy,so I guess in the intro theme from KO1 - KO3 she was referred to Gypsym on the "Robot Roll Call" part.
@wattamack4: Brining this back up, apparently she was Gypsy from the start after seeing more clips from the 3 lost episodes and the complete pilot episode. I have no idea why she keeps being refered to as "Gypsym" in K03 and a few other KTMA episodes.
The great thing about the 80s was that a show like this could still be aired by a local tv station, not many local shows anymore, now its internet.. or YOUTUBE@@ Yeah baby!
Wow! I'm so glad things got better over the years! I've seen low budget but man this?! Joel with long hair....no! He looked like a homeless guy! I guess things were rough for him then after his prop comic gig fell through, this show saved his ass from a life of mindless toil working in a supermarket!
Haha, that's sweet. Wish I could get my hands on those old episodes. Joel looks great with the long messy hair too, really fits that kind of sleepy stoner look he has lol
That. Was. Gold. God, I wish that show had never gone to such low depths as it did the last season or two and then gotten cancelled. Go out great, or don't go out at all. Thanks for posting.
I Mean, Gypsy is in the theater with Joel and Crow in the theme song here. This is not true. It is really Joel, Crow and Servo. I'm just clearing that up.
