The music works, but the lyrics overshadow the titles, I find myself listening to the lyrics when I'm usually watching the screen in time to the music. Shame, victim of its own catchiness. (I can't think of a better word than catchiness or I'd use it!!)
So in other words, if they had gone with this song, it likely would have looked different. As much as a fan of St. Etienne I am, I actually prefer the Sheryl Crow song. This one sounds a little too Austin Powers groovey 60s sounding
Usually the opening credit footage is the last part of 007 films to get done. On one movie from the 1960s, they only completed the opening titles around 24-48 hours before the premiere.

Wow! Even with the Bond theme in there, I couldn't have guessed this was a potential Bond song! It sounds like the theme to a bad tv show, or even, god forbid, MUZAK! Seems like Sheryl Crow wasn't such a bad choice, given what they had to work with!
Several artists were asked to submit theme songs for Tomorrow Never Dies. Pulp's "Tomorrow Never Lies" wasreleased on the vinyl version of their 1998 album This Is Hardcore. Saint Etienne's TND version turned up on their Built on Sand album, with the liner notes revealing that Pierce Brosnan kept the master tape of the song. Other artists who submitted 'TND' themes included Marc Almond,Swan Lee, The Cardigans & Space. Sheryl Crow's song was picked, but kd lang's "Surrender" was used in the score
This song you hear on the video is only a very rough demo by Saint Etienne. It was released on a fanclub-only album. It might have been more suited as a proper Bond theme had it been given the full production treatment.
This is the most "muzak" Bond theme I have ever heard. It doesn't really have a lot of presence, especially with the somewhat muted vocals. Not a bad song, but totally inappropriate for a Bond theme.
Doesn't quite work. Nice song tho. Almost anything is better than Crow's disaster.

good song but I can see why they didn't choose this song -- it's not dark enough, a Bond song needs to be more ominous, more urgency

It's better than Sheryl Crow's awful tune but it's still not great.

Another one of EON's big mistakes when it came to the opening titles... though the biggest was not using Ace of Base's "The GoldenEye/Juvenile".

I have enjoyed this band for years and I never knew they were in the running for a Jame Bond movie theme! Cool. Too bad they didn't get it.

BTW, K.D. Lang's song shoulda been the lead theme.

No wonder Crows's version of this song was picked. This one sounds terrible.

Better than Sheryl Crow- don't forget this is just a demo. I can't hear the Sheryl Crow song without singing the theme to Perry Mason.

I personally like Swan Lee's song. Hitman: Blood Money uses it for the ending credits.

This could have been a 1960s Bond theme, but not a 1990s Bond theme. Decent song, but not a Brosnan-era theme.

This tune is soooo right for a Bond movie, it doesn't need "energy", it's just pure laid back brilliance!!

even with great production, this song is weak lyrically, and lacks any bravado

This just doesn't work as a Bond song.

I kind of agree with all the comments on here. This is a great song but it misses the Bond energy the other songs have.

I love both the Saint Etienne and the Sheryl Crow version. I think the SE version should have ended the movie.

Saint Etienne make music for chilling out in summer lol, not suited to a bond movie.

very nice done... but maybe it was not really a James Bond team song.
