3:23 "... doing all these ridiculous thing for Tshirts... not even paying those girls..."
Looks like you've been rather thoroughly co-opted, without even noticing it, by the mercantile mindset you profess so to decry: so if they did it for substantial pay it would somehow be justifiable or at least understood?!?
And when is it ever empowering for women to parade their bodies in public nude or not even nude?
@fctchk My point is that there is no motivation behind what they are doing other than performing. It has nothing to do with personal enjoyment or a desire to make money, which tend to be the two reasons why someone would flash for a television camera. They aren't getting sexual pleasure out of it, they're not getting paid. So ultimately they're doing it simply to perform. The question is where this need to perform came from.
I hope a guy's comment isn't turned down here. In the end, if I am reading Levy's FCP is to try to grasp the opinion of 'the other half of the sky'.
To your question on "where this need to perform came from" I say that I too, from the beginning of the book, was asking myself the same. But then, reading through, I have it that Levy's point is that those who engage in raunch (guys too, I can't imagine myself shooting a video for GGW) are just empty headed, undercultured bimbos.
I too, really enjoyed this book! I agreed with what she addressed in her book. I thought it was brave of her to tell the truth for what it is. I always cringe when I see young females sporting t-shirts that say, "Porn-Star." Or when the, "Girls Gone Wild" commercials comes on.
Holy crap. Look at that boob crack. SEXY.

@ggirino I wouldn't go that far, considering a lot of otherwise cultured people participate in raunch. I think it's a bit more complicated than that.
