My favorite "Moodies" album. I like the open cover, the modern hand to the left, the primitive hand to the right. Both, drawing man's achievements. And the 'band' sitting around a campfire in their 'man-cave'.....Timeless....
I love this track and the album it comes from, they are so talented and so prolific that it is almost an embarrassment of riches to go through their body of work and pick a favourite. Whatever track I play is my favourite. I love them. Thank you every one who contributes.
"To Our Children's" was the 1st Moodys record I bought: the cover art reminded me of an illustration that accompanied some weird, semi-dystopic story by Van Tilburg Clark.
Later, in college, for some Philosophy 101 class, I hypothesized that what distinguished music in part from the other arts was that music could produce a sense of urgency (certain keys, tempos): this Eternity Road was an example (so was Beethoven's 7th). (The professor didn't buy it, & I got a C-minus.)
@CocteauDalighari If your professor had taken a hit, put on the head-phones, and listened "To Our Children's", hopefully, if he were a real philosopher himself, he would have given you an A and encouraged you to pursue your hypothesis.
does anyone have the tabs for the solo- is it two guitars ?? I have always loves the solo on this song and never quite managed to get it right..I have suspected its over dubbed several times but actually saw the moodies play this in 1994 and Justin nailed it ..its very chet atkins style pickin at its best.
@nootaramus It's 2 guitars playing the solo. Listen closely and you'll hear slight variations in what the guitars are playing because most of the time they play the same thing. How many overdubs I have no idea. Played live most people would never hear the difference. Looked for tab - none found.
Who needs the Rock n' roll Hall of Fame? To tell us that the Moody Blues are awesome?! Well fuck them. All their fans think they're amazing, who cares what the Hall says.
Here's what John Lodge says about the RRHOF, "I suppose, the people who run the Hall of Fame, they’re on their own agenda. And whatever that agenda is, it has nothing to do with me. But obviously, from a fan point of view, they’re saying The Moody Blues haven’t contributed to American rock ‘n’ roll history. But 70 million albums later, incredibly successful tours, and the most devout of fans, I would beg to differ."
@TitusBass111 but why gives a shit really the Rock n Roll Hall and Fame is a complete joke anyway a completely pointless thing which hopefully will eventually die and be forgotten - having said that most people dont know it exists now anyway!
Thanks so much for posting these legendary songs from the Moodies! Your videos are awesome! I got to share with my wife and son an evening of their music this week. It was my 5th time! Wow, the Moody Blues live on!!!
if there are any other Mellotron fans out there like me.....buy the DVD Mellodrama........very entertaining.....all you ever wanted to know aobut the Mellotron and Chamberlin
Excellent. The boys all kick-in --- great bass rifts throughout -- Graeme's ever present percussion, wonderful guitar, and the mellotron harmonies are fabulous. When you think this was written some 40 years ago, its a testament to this band - timeless! Listen to the part from about 3:30 on ............. its taking me to eternity.....
moodies have always been very patient with their songs... allowing them room to develope even if it takes the song past 5 minutes in length...making them more composers than songwriters. this is a great mournful and mystical song from Ray.
Ray only had ONE US radio hot--FOR MY LADY, yet his best compositions, Legend of a Mind, Dear Diary and Eternity Road went unnoticed by any Rolling Stone critic. We Love you ray,,
This song is one of those Moody Blues songs for which they had to write "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band," to tell people "we really have no cosmic wisdom, everybody!"
great video , the images capture the song especailly 2:06 . A song which although not very well know to non moody fans is totally moody, justins guitar picking and riff , the mellotron , johns bass is very prominent, rays voice and flute its all there!! and of course mr edge.
This and "Floating" are my two favorite Ray Thomas compositions...from my favorite MB album..To Our Children's Children's Children...Days Of Future Passed is a very close second! Anyway, another superb job, Jill!
my favorite group of all time endless classics that never date, an endless journey of pure poetry, nothing against, baby baby baby, but this music transcends the cot
I know you struggled with this video, and it would appear the effort was well worth it! Very nice job... I think you captured the messages in the music nicely! Thx
An amazing effort that visually captures what is ungraspable, mixes textures, sacred symbols and nuances of life's mysteries that only could be boldly ventured into with this Moody Blues classic.
One of he best of the M. B's!

There can never be another group like this and that is a loss to everyone!
I was about six when I first heard them and we had a cat that would not leave the speakers when the Moody Blues were being played.
I am 50 and will never stop listening to them. I have all the early concept albums on vinyl and just love them!
Keep going Justin and company as we love you till this day!
