@rider4343 Yes, and at that time, the 'fucking planet' was much warmer than it has ever been since humans or our ancestors evolved...it was a very different place totally unsuited to seven billion people dependent on food production that would be devastated by warming that massive.

turks are pompous and condescending. what everyone fails to realize is that all politicians are the same no matter which of the two parties that we the 'serfs' can choose from. The class warfare is obvious. The dollar has still lost 98% of its value over the last 100 years. Capital is still accumulating to the top. wages have not increased. Debt and interest payments on the debt are unsustainable. It will soon fall apart.
He's saying that the oil must have come from fossils, and if it came from fossils, then there must have been something living there at the time.
From a scientific standpoint, Barton was wrong, but it still would have been better if he had explained his wrongness more clearly. That way Cenk wouldn't have to waste so much time.
So oil only comes from warm places, so Alaska used to be warmer, which means global warming is natural, so we should not care about global warming!
Ya but...if Alaska gets warm and its snow melts into the ocean...sea levels rise and submerge cities across the earth...so in any case we should be doing whatever we can to prevent Alaska from getting warmer...not just saying oh well who cares nothing we can do about it.
Joe was trying to say because he's an idiotic that alaska must have been prosperous at some time filled with plant and animal and bacterial life that could break down and form the complex hydrocarbons that oil is made of. He's just an idiot and he doesn't understand that due to plate movements the ground under alaska hasn't always been under the section of the globe we call alaska. He was trying to say that global warming is a natural event because theres oil under alaska.
I love how Cenck suddenly grasps the full extend of this guy's profound ignorance and stupidity! A funny moment! (and obviously a sad moment as well, in a sense),
Oil came from dinosaurs. Oil is in Alaska. Therefore, in order for dinosaurs to be in Alaska, it had to be warm at some point for them to survive. Hence, the earth is going through a natural cycle of warm and cool and there is no 'global warming'.
See? All you have to do is follow the mind set of a child and suddenly all the Republicans make sense!
So what if Alaska was warmer at some point? The climate hundreds of millions of years ago was different (areas like the midwest had virtually no life). Does Barton think that the bottom of the ocean was once covered in trees? Maybe its possible that what was once land is now sea.
ok here is the thought process: oil is a product of fossilised organic matter. therefore there must have been robust life in the area (and now there isn't because its too cold), ergo alaska must have had warmer climes. OBVIOUSLY, this argument IGNORES CONTINENTAL DRIFT. was the senator disingenious with his question, or his education finished in 6th grade?...
Actually do you all reallize that it is because this area was once tropical because it was nearer the equator because of continental drift? Not just because there are animals dying there. Conversely the Antarctic was once at the equator so that a lot of fossils beneath the ice are tropical in nature.
Warm had to do with the deposits coming from living material that decayed and that's how oil was formed. You guys have no conception of how oil is formed. That was why it had to be warm so the plants and animals could live there and could decacy and form the oil deposits. Why do you think they call it fossil fuels are you guys complete idiots?

the oil and coal itself is made of decomposed organisms which took hundreds of thousands of years, and the plate movement only moved these sources deeper or farther but its also an earth cycle in which volcanoes are formed making new rock. the gas or natural gas comes from the earth's core because of the constant eat and chemicals that are active
@NOVAGIRL666 Natural gas does not come from the core. The first part of your comment was correct. Organic material is deposited then covered by sediment, as sedimentation continues the organic material decomposes into simpler molecules ie. oil and gas. The ratio of oil to gas is controlled by what type of organic material is deposited and how long and at what temperatures and pressures the organic material is exposed to.
Al Gore and his climate scientists studies have found that CO2 emissions from capitalist countries like the US are 1000000 times more harmful than CO2 emissions from communist countries like China
if you are a Republican with a seat in any of our two glorious chambers, is because you have MONEY MONEY MONEY! not because you are smart, or literate, or care about people, or care about education, NOOOOOOO! everything is MONEY!
In all fairness, it is believed that, at one time, the poles were sub-tropical to tropical in climate. The Southern polar region has apparently been found with plant life from quite a few million years ago. Therefore, if the poles were warmer (due to a different axis of the earth or other reason) there could be a reason why the Alaskan region has oil as well.
well, it accumulated from decomposing plant material from the carboniferous period, so yea it had to be warm for that stuff to grow. But obviously alaska hasnt been in the same place the entire history of the earth, the continents have been all over the place.
I am sure that he thinks oil is only located in warm areas so he is assuming the earth was warm at one point proving that global warming isn't real and that it's a cycle not caused by humans. The dumbass has no idea how oil is produced.
I think the real issue that Al Gore needs to bring to our attention next is that there are just too many people on the Asian Continent and it's going to throw off the earth's rotation. Think about it...
It's like packing too many clothes on one side of the washing machine... "we're so fucked now". Al and I have agreed that if you want to have a child in this crisis, you need to pay a child bearing tax... if you can't afford it we will burn your child in a "non carbon" emitting machine.
It wouldn’t be surprise me if there were Tea party members and members of the GOP that believe the earth is flat.....or don’t know that the earth is rotating around the sun and not the other way around...
@iknowthetruthhurts oh my gosh you're right... I always thought the earth was flat. My being a tea part member has nothing to do with the lack of the constitution in our governing. YOU ARE SO DUMB... but it's okay because you know "the truth hurts."
@ihateanthoney If they're smart enough to form a society, one could only hope they were smart enough to look at pictures astronauts have taken of the earth from space.
What makes a person dumb is repeating mistakes when all the evidence tells him to stop for his own good. We will witness this human short-coming when President Obama rolls out his new “stimulus” package.
He was TRYING to point out that in order for the oil to be underneath Alaska soil & the artic region that it would have had to be significant amounts of life there requiring a tropical-like climate. Which is true but like other dumbass republicans he is picking & choosing scientific facts. The answer of tectonic plate movements should have been all that was needed to help him realize how stupid his question was. Now what is truely frightening is this MOFO is part of the machine runing our govt.
Yes, it was warmer in Alaska than it was now. Many times in geological times, the earth was completely Ice free. But what does a geological time frame have to do with this argument? Humans have impacted the climate and this impact is at a far greater pace than geological times. Which is the point, change is not good.
U would think that 'conservatives', would strive to keep our PPM constant, as they are always for keeping things the same...
@tylerkstoney Yes, climate does change on its own, but the change is faster involving other factors. It's not like the earth's temperature just drops a bunch of degrees for no reason, let alone 1 degree. The amount of temperature drop is more when idiots like the Republicans deny the existence of climate change/global warming and don't take tasks to prevent warming of the earth.
@LibertyInProgress The Republicans don't deny climate change. The Republicans deny global warming. If you think paying a carbon tax will change anything you're "fucking retarded". I'm not a Republican or a Democrat so leave that issue alone. Don't worry about what the Republicans want or don't want. Hell don't worry about the American People as a whole because President Obama doesn't really care and does whatever the hell he wants anyway.
@inlines8master ...talk about "global warming". You mean the entire earth is just getting hotter every day right? When you listen to the news and you have a record breaking heat... IT'S FOR THAT DAY. By the way, on a yearly scale, that actually measures the climate as a whole, "IT'S GETTING COLDER"! But that wouldn't make sense to your cock fucked brain. Google "record breaking cold". Start at the top and read your way down. Maybe you'll learn something... RETARD!
@tylerkstoney shut up you dont know anything its not just one day here in colorado we have had record breaking tempratures the whole summer. its fall and its still in the mid to high 80s by now it should be like 50 degrees on average. but its not supprising that a republican would just bash me. youre so hypocritical go fuck your self.
i was very confused with his question.i heard alot of global warmin undertones but then he went on askin about how the oil got there & the professer explained that condinaeitc plates with oil drifted there.then he gave him a ridiculous "ho-hum" look & asked "so they just drifted their?"of course they drifted their, plates drift all the time, ever heard of Pangea?i dont know,i was just thourghly confused.
This young turk host is the idiot. Joe Barton asked a legitimate question; since oil and gas is the result of organic materials (plants and animals) being buried and heated over hundreds of millions of years, then it would lead one to conclude that at some point the north pole and alaska had to be very warm to support an abundance amount of plants and animals. barton just wanted chu's acknowledgement of his question.
I think what Barton was hinting at was that the oil came from prehistoric creatures that lived in the Alaskan area a long time ago.At that point in time Alaska was not as cold as it is today. Thus in his warped mind he thinks it's a argument against the idea of Global warming having anything to do with man because Alaska was warm in prehistoric times before we came along to do anything.
Barton probably just thinks that the scientists don't get it. Just tell him that the earth is 6,000 years old and God put the oil there. Because some people refuse to proccess information or be seen learning something in public.

Not hard guys, he was pointing out that in order for oil reserves to exist under the arctic caps that at some point those areas of the world must have been warm enough to support life (both animal and vegetation) in order to have deposited the vast amounts of petroleum that new rest in these parts of the world. He didn't have a of time to expand on his line of questioning but it really doesn't seem too complicated, assuming you are not too "dumb" to figure that out.
AUSTRALIA's two leading scientific agencies will release a report today showing Australia has warmed significantly over the past 50 years, and stating categorically that ''climate change is real''.
Took me a few minutes to figure out Joe Bartons point, but its pretty clear. What he's trying to imply is that since oil and gas some from vegatation in warmer more tropical climates that this means that Alaska was once warm and tropical which proves that the globe as warmed so much on its own in the past that even Alaska was tropical at one point. Of course the idiocy he thinks Alaska has always been at it's current location and doesnt grasp plate tectonics, which is what was being explained.
FAO hiiamrick Temperature is variable, if many countries all over the globe are experiencing record low temps and wintery conditions how does that equate to a rise in global temperature???? USE YOUR BRAIN!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah lets ignore solar irradiance and orbit change which has been proven by NASA. That couldn't have any affect. Only humans can change the climate on a global scale.
Oil is produced as a byproduct of the decomposition of prehistoric plant and animal life. The antarctic and Alaska were once tropical regions and thrived with all kinds of life. I guess he was saying that since the poles have melted before when man didn't even exists then perhaps global warming if it exists is just a cyclic phenomenon?
Britain has just enjoyed a complete snowbound whiteout and what perfect timing for the global warming non-thinkers to reassess their views in a logical way. Equation time for all non thinkers, if Scotland has just experienced -22c do you really think 2000 miles further north that the ice caps are melting? second question is Al Gore making you feel dumb yet?
The current wouldn't get diluted and the composition of the salt water s irrelevant. The cooler water running off as the ice caps melt would mix into the current of which you speak and cool the water resulting in a difference of a few degrees directly from the water itself. Other changes would be resulting from that change relative to other factors such as it is winter. That is not relevant to this video however.
artvilm - you obviously can't spell and are as stupid as Joe Barton. I'd be embarass if I asked a stupid question and then got confused when I received an intelligent answer. Sad.
Al Gore, bring your hot air down here to Miami, where the temperature is in the 30's at this moment--hurry, we need you now!
By the way, any fifth-grader (you're not smarter than...) knows that the earth's core temperature is perhaps several thousands--but not several MILLIONS of degrees, as YOU recently said. And the world looks to YOU for science? Oh yeah, but you DID iinvent the internet. And one thing you do exquisitely: you portray your party symbol (JACKASS)!!
Ok so since you don't know, I will explain it to you. First, global warming causes irregular climate. So 30's in Miami would indicate irregular climate for that region of the U.S. Second, now sit down for this, global warming may cause an Ice Age. When the polar ice caps melt, they mix with salt water in the in the atlantic ocean. There is a stream of salt water that regulates the climate, inside the Ocean. If it is diluted it stops working, Hence warm climate goes away. So don't be a dumb ass
Shame there is no direct proof of man made global warming as a few 100 ppm increase in CO2 in the lab has no effect, nada, none, nothing, zero. Now 200,000 ppm increase does raise temp a few C but that is from .01% to 20%.
Now the IPCC claims their virtual incomplete positive loopbacked biased models show CO2 has an amplifying effect over time, problem is these BS models could not predict the last 10 years so now we are to believe the can predict 100s of years out?
@MissingGWdotcom i personally have no idea about global warming.... but the fact that like 95% of scientists say that humans are causing the climate change leads me to believe that we are. for some reason i trust people the experts
You know when I ask the average person what part of the science convinces them man made global warming is real, after the blank stare the answer 95% is "well all scientists say so". First this is not proof, second 10,000s of scientists have signed petitions stating they dont believe.
Now I do think most scientists believe the earth is warming the question is it man adding 100 parts per million CO2 doing it or is it natural?
The fact is if you believe in man made global warming your only real proof is the same as the IPCC believes in and all these scientists, incomplete positive loopback models that just blew the last 10 years.
But it is a free country (well Al Gore non believer NAZI it might not be) you and some scientists can believe in these models all you want,
I do not believe in their models. Maybe in a few 100 years as they get better.
The IPCC states in their 4th report they cannot find any other reason for the warming the last 100 years so it has to be CO2, but then again they ignore numerous theories that could explain the warming of the last 100 years from changes in the magnetic field, solar, gamma rays, thermal ocean vents, etc. They also ignore 100s of sudden and drastic temp changes since the last ice age.
Just 3300 years ago GISP ice core shows the temps was 3 degree C higher than today but the IPCC makes no attempt to explain it and it cant be CO2 because the IPCC claims CO2 has been in the 300 ppm ranges since the last ice age,.
The IPCC does claim the current temp rise must be man because the cant explain it, but they cant explain any of the 100s of drastic and sudden temp changes seen in the GISP and Vostok ice cores since the last ice age, as much as 3 degree C in 200 years is common but the IPCC makes no mention of this data and simply ignores it in their 4th report as they want you to believe any temp change is abnormal, that is a lie. See the ice cores graphs at my site, same as my name.
Well, I'm not sure if you've ever watched his tv show, but he uses fear tactics, fake tears, and deceptive logic (2 + 2 = whatever he needs to at that time) to promote his ideas, like when he uncovered Communist Propaganda in Times Square... I haven't read his books, but based off his tv show and radio show, he's a lunatic.
I like how the faces of the Right consist of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sarah Palin, among others like them. Regardless of what I think of the left, the right is an absolute joke.
Why is everyone so dependent on the theory of "man made global warming"? Other than being a religion there is no rational explanation for closed minded views. Republican was stating that the world temperature climate changes and cycles. You have a potentially great show here but why are you trying to push a religion?
I think he thought that the oil and gas formed in Alaska while Alaska was at it's current latitude, which would mean the earth was much warmer in the past before man was around, Therefore he was saying that global warming is NOT man made. While alaska's oil likely was formed while that landmass was further south, he's right that the earth experiences climate change with or without man. But that doesn't matter, if we're in for harmful change, what can we do to slow that change down?
"It would seem that humans need a common motivation... either a real one or else one invented for the purpose... In searching for a New Enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of Global Warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill... The real enemy then, is humanity itself."
He is just explaining that the earth goes through cycles of hot and cold and that at one point Alaska was warm enough to sustain an abundance of life that produced this oil --- This is a little over the head of the average liberal.
Your right the earth does go through hot and cold cycles, but for the time it took the Oil to develop under Alaska, it would mean that the Tectonic plate would have been closer to the equator, which would have meant that yes there would have been more life there to eventualy create that oil. Also just because there are hot and cold cycles in global climate, doesn't excuse the massive pollution of the earth, or the fact that humanity has been the equivilant of a volcano erupting for 200 years
well, you're the ones, statistically, with a low IQ. Anyway I would think the same thing if I was an oil company CEO and didn't give two shits about human existence.
Dumb republicans, With regard to illegal aliens they work inside your homes. They cook. They farm. If they get sick, you will become sick too. What is this bickering with Obama about health care. Why don't you give them health care to protect your own health?
He was just trying to make the point that our climate must of been just as warm or warmer than today's climate. Only problem he was presenting in a retarded way.
The forests and rainforests of today will inevitably become oil reserves in the far future.
Even though his point lost it's center, I personally agree that the warming trend is completely natural. The planet has warmed up and cooled down dramatically in its history
here is an idea, do some research and watch the whole conference to get it in context, but then it wouldn't be as funny to you or you would not be able to try to make some kind point from it, good job.
these elite liberal scientists with their "scientific research". Any decent person knows that god put that oil there 6 thousand years ago for us to drill and use untill the end times. Praise the lord.
yeah it was kinda confusing at first but i think i know what he's getting at. Oil is created by a large number of fossilized animals and vegetation which could have only once thrived in a warmer climate.
But he's an idiot, because like the scientist said, it could have been carried there with the drifting of the continents. The land Alaska is on was once in the tropics near Hawaii.
i think what the point of his argument was is that because the earth has gone through different climate cycles eg, ice ages ect. that this is a natural process and we dotn have to worry becuase is all come and gone before.
In my opinion we are a big factor in the climate changes already taking place and those that will follow in the future, the amount of change we bring to the face of the earth its imposible to think that i wouldnt have effects on our environment.
yes there were warmer periods over the course of history but you have to look at the climate at those times, how high were sea levels? how much of currently populated land was under warter in those warm periods and how well suited to our currant way of life would those times have been?
i have no political bias and im just speaking from what i have learnt and what seems true to me but im 26 now and truely believe that within my lifetime there will be wars fought over things like fresh water and land suitable for growing food.
with the exponantial rise in global population and the increased demand for water for crops and human consumption you only have to do the math to know that things cant keep on going as they are and something has to give.
To be fair to all those posting "He believes the world was created a few thousand years ago" He didn't say or even imply that.... He's just an bat crap crazy idiot. People like him give plenty of ammunition to use against them without having to put words in their mouths.
Nonsense that the right wing Christians like because they can say the world is only 6000yrs old and some of the oil backed nutters who think we have infinite years of oil left and prices are because of the "greedy" Arabs.
Oil and gas "got" to Alaska because millions of years ago most of Alaska was swamp land and closer to the equator. Due to tectonic and other geologic forces, such as heat and pressure, turned most of the biology in the area to oil and the natural gas found in the region.
The senator,in trying to present a "reasoned" insinuation that, because the Alaska area was warm enough to produce huge swamps in prehistory, there is no need to worry about global warming now-it's just natural, conveniently neglects to mention that a repeat of that runaway greenhouse(low oxygen/high carbon dioxide) period would doom modern civilization to becoming an oil SOURCE for future societies!
How did Cenk not get that? That was my first thought: "Oil comes from the Middle East. It's hot there. Therefore, if there's oil in Alaska, Alaska must have been hot when the oil was put there."
I thought when watching it that Cenk would make that statement later on, not be surprised by it.
The congressman is actually asking a intelligent loaded question to the scientist. He first sets the scientist up by asking "how did the oil and gas get to Alaska and under the Atlantic ocean?"(Meaning that their once was a abundant source of life animals and such since oil comes from dead organism.) and then congressman talks about being obvious that temperature was warm to sustain life. then he makes a joke referring to the consensus of global warming.
He doesn't understand the fact that tectonic plates move and Alaska wasn't always located at 'the North Pole', let alone consider the Earth's axis shifting over time.
"Grandstanding" does this mean trying to prove to the world that you are not smarter than a fifth grader? That would be nice if it were true but far too many people believe this type of thing and the more people like this go on TV talking about how God put these natural resources there just for us to take advantage of, the worse things will get for all of us. Thank GOD for Scientists, Biologists, Geologists, Volcanologists & Democrats.
what the fuck is wrong with this meatball, does he want to pay carbon taxes to a world central bank for these phony reasons? this guy is just trying to be a distraction by swetting these petty arguments.thats why when i see the tag tyt (the dumb jurk) i usually ignore it. i dont know what happened this time.
This guy comes from the camp that thinks the entire world was created by God just a few thousand years ago and that he must have put the oil there for us to use. How do we get these morons in high places like this? They are elected by other morons who believe the same crap.
Sure, it was probably much longer ago, but yea, it's just a complete coincidence that all these resources from the earth are just perfectly suited for us to use to our benefit. And to think that all this science and intelligence just started with a big explosion! BTW - really open?
They were not perfectly suited for our use and benifit, people invent things that make them suited for our use. We use these resources because they are there - They are not there because we use them. We invented automobiles to run on gasoline, we invented turbines to make elecricity from steam generated from burning coal and we use the wind and sun to create energy as well.
We decide what source is most available to tap for our energy and then create ways to make it work for us. In a sense its the recources we have available that spawn the inventions we use to take advantage of such resources. If God intended us to continue poluting the earth by burning fossil fuels then why did he create wind turbines and solar panels for us to use?
that is completely stupid. cause as the good Dr said. tectonic movement , if the senator read a geography book. he would know the, continents weren't where we know them now, hell africa had ice sheets, this moron doesnt know that, alaska just shifted, and that big rock that fell to earth, helped cooled the place down ,( partical matter blocking the heat) plus the fact planets heat up and cool down after sometime. THe moron. aughhhhhh.
the point of the question is actually simple to infer. barton is suggesting that in order for there to be large deposits of oil and gas in alaska, then alaska had to be much warmer in the past to account for the amount of plant and animals that died over the millions of years to create those fossil fuels.
A. there is lots of vegetation and animal life in alaska now, so it doesn't really need to be warmer.
B. the earth has gone through several cycles of warming and cooling, so it probably was warmer at some point, and much colder at other times. regardless, over millions of years, there would be enough flora and fauna living there to account fort he fossil fuels.
In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth, THEN MAN, then Woman
no Satan did not put bones on the earth ther WERE dinosaurs living on the earth with man and who knows what else, but after sin man could not live with them like they could before, then the flood came, and after the flood the earth changed alot, and perhaps the dinos could not survive on it anymore and died.
I can't believe you all believe all these lies your telling me
THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD LEAVE THE SCIENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE TO THE SCIENTISTS NOT THE REPUBLICANS!!!

ok here is the thought process: oil is a product of fossilised organic matter. therefore there must have been robust life in the area (and now there isn't because its too cold), ergo alaska must have had warmer climes.

Conversely the Antarctic was once at the equator so that a lot of fossils beneath the ice are tropical in nature.

the oil and coal itself is made of decomposed organisms which took hundreds of thousands of years, and the plate movement only moved these sources deeper or farther but its also an earth cycle in which volcanoes are formed making new rock. the gas or natural gas comes from the earth's core because of the constant eat and chemicals that are active
NOVAGIRL666 1 year ago
@NOVAGIRL666 Natural gas does not come from the core. The first part of your comment was correct. Organic material is deposited then covered by sediment, as sedimentation continues the organic material decomposes into simpler molecules ie. oil and gas. The ratio of oil to gas is controlled by what type of organic material is deposited and how long and at what temperatures and pressures the organic material is exposed to.

Atatakaidan 1 year ago
well, it accumulated from decomposing plant material from the carboniferous period, so yea it had to be warm for that stuff to grow. But obviously alaska hasnt been in the same place the entire history of the earth, the continents have been all over the place.

Of course the idiocy he thinks Alaska has always been at it's current location and doesnt grasp plate tectonics, which is what was being explained.

Oil is produced as a byproduct of the decomposition of prehistoric plant and animal life. The antarctic and Alaska were once tropical regions and thrived with all kinds of life.

WHAT GLOBAL WARMING/!
And one thing you do exquisitely: you portray your party symbol (JACKASS)!!
paulhazenfausnight 2 years ago
Ok so since you don't know, I will explain it to you. First, global warming causes irregular climate. So 30's in Miami would indicate irregular climate for that region of the U.S. Second, now sit down for this, global warming may cause an Ice Age. When the polar ice caps melt, they mix with salt water in the in the atlantic ocean. There is a stream of salt water that regulates the climate, inside the Ocean. If it is diluted it stops working, Hence warm climate goes away. So don't be a dumb ass
mm89f 2 years ago
Shame there is no direct proof of man made global warming as a few 100 ppm increase in CO2 in the lab has no effect, nada, none, nothing, zero. Now 200,000 ppm increase does raise temp a few C but that is from .01% to 20%.
Now the IPCC claims their virtual incomplete positive loopbacked biased models show CO2 has an amplifying effect over time, problem is these BS models could not predict the last 10 years so now we are to believe the can predict 100s of years out?
MissingGWdotcom 2 years ago
@MissingGWdotcom i personally have no idea about global warming.... but the fact that like 95% of scientists say that humans are causing the climate change leads me to believe that we are. for some reason i trust people the experts
chuckkick 2 years ago
You know when I ask the average person what part of the science convinces them man made global warming is real, after the blank stare the answer 95% is "well all scientists say so". First this is not proof, second 10,000s of scientists have signed petitions stating they dont believe.
Now I do think most scientists believe the earth is warming the question is it man adding 100 parts per million CO2 doing it or is it natural?
MissingGWdotcom 2 years ago
The fact is if you believe in man made global warming your only real proof is the same as the IPCC believes in and all these scientists, incomplete positive loopback models that just blew the last 10 years.
But it is a free country (well Al Gore non believer NAZI it might not be) you and some scientists can believe in these models all you want,
I do not believe in their models. Maybe in a few 100 years as they get better.
MissingGWdotcom 2 years ago
The IPCC states in their 4th report they cannot find any other reason for the warming the last 100 years so it has to be CO2, but then again they ignore numerous theories that could explain the warming of the last 100 years from changes in the magnetic field, solar, gamma rays, thermal ocean vents, etc. They also ignore 100s of sudden and drastic temp changes since the last ice age.
MissingGWdotcom 2 years ago
Just 3300 years ago GISP ice core shows the temps was 3 degree C higher than today but the IPCC makes no attempt to explain it and it cant be CO2 because the IPCC claims CO2 has been in the 300 ppm ranges since the last ice age,.
MissingGWdotcom 2 years ago
The IPCC does claim the current temp rise must be man because the cant explain it, but they cant explain any of the 100s of drastic and sudden temp changes seen in the GISP and Vostok ice cores since the last ice age, as much as 3 degree C in 200 years is common but the IPCC makes no mention of this data and simply ignores it in their 4th report as they want you to believe any temp change is abnormal, that is a lie. See the ice cores graphs at my site, same as my name.

BCFlyer2 2 years ago
I think he thought that the oil and gas formed in Alaska while Alaska was at it's current latitude, which would mean the earth was much warmer in the past before man was around, Therefore he was saying that global warming is NOT man made. While alaska's oil likely was formed while that landmass was further south, he's right that the earth experiences climate change with or without man. But that doesn't matter, if we're in for harmful change, what can we do to slow that change down?
kf1000 2 years ago
Even I as a liiiberal have to admit that the explanation given for the origin of oil and natural gas is one of the worst I've ever heard.
Oil formes from the brakedown of biomass ( in this case plankton and algae ), under long time exposure to heat and pressure.

i have no political bias and im just speaking from what i have learnt and what seems true to me but im 26 now and truely believe that within my lifetime there will be wars fought over things like fresh water and land suitable for growing food.
with the exponantial rise in global population and the increased demand for water for crops and human consumption you only have to do the math to know that things cant keep on going as they are and something has to give.

To be fair to all those posting "He believes the world was created a few thousand years ago" He didn't say or even imply that.... He's just an bat crap crazy idiot. People like him give plenty of ammunition to use against them without having to put words in their mouths.

I think he is referring to abotic oil.

Due to tectonic and other geologic forces, such as heat and pressure, turned most of the biology in the area to oil and the natural gas found in the region.
troll1138 2 years ago
The senator,in trying to present a "reasoned" insinuation that, because the Alaska area was warm enough to produce huge swamps in prehistory, there is no need to worry about global warming now-it's just natural, conveniently neglects to mention that a repeat of that runaway greenhouse(low oxygen/high carbon dioxide) period would doom modern civilization to becoming an oil SOURCE for future societies!

soooooo funny

How did Cenk not get that? That was my first thought: "Oil comes from the Middle East. It's hot there. Therefore, if there's oil in Alaska, Alaska must have been hot when the oil was put there."
I thought when watching it that Cenk would make that statement later on, not be surprised by it.

The congressman is actually asking a intelligent loaded question to the scientist. He first sets the scientist up by asking "how did the oil and gas get to Alaska and under the Atlantic ocean?"(Meaning that their once was a abundant source of life animals and such since oil comes from dead organism.) and then congressman talks about being obvious that temperature was warm to sustain life. then he makes a joke referring to the consensus of global warming.
graffiticrime 2 years ago
No, he's asking a idiotic loaded question.
He doesn't understand the fact that tectonic plates move and Alaska wasn't always located at 'the North Pole', let alone consider the Earth's axis shifting over time.

Chairman: "So you're saying *haha ridiculous* that this and that happened?"
Rep: "Uh...That's certainly what happened...And uh, we have proof..."
Wow, welcome to high school, fool.

The politician was grandstanding and any hs student would be able to give a basic answer to his question
TromboneUSAlabama 2 years ago
"Grandstanding" does this mean trying to prove to the world that you are not smarter than a fifth grader? That would be nice if it were true but far too many people believe this type of thing and the more people like this go on TV talking about how God put these natural resources there just for us to take advantage of, the worse things will get for all of us. Thank GOD for Scientists, Biologists, Geologists, Volcanologists & Democrats.

what the fuck is wrong with this meatball, does he want to pay carbon taxes to a world central bank for these phony reasons? this guy is just trying to be a distraction by swetting these petty arguments.thats why when i see the tag tyt (the dumb jurk) i usually ignore it. i dont know what happened this time.
infadell101 2 years ago
This guy comes from the camp that thinks the entire world was created by God just a few thousand years ago and that he must have put the oil there for us to use. How do we get these morons in high places like this? They are elected by other morons who believe the same crap.
Open2debate 2 years ago 3
Sure, it was probably much longer ago, but yea, it's just a complete coincidence that all these resources from the earth are just perfectly suited for us to use to our benefit. And to think that all this science and intelligence just started with a big explosion! BTW - really open?
lakesidelivin 2 years ago
They were not perfectly suited for our use and benifit, people invent things that make them suited for our use. We use these resources because they are there - They are not there because we use them. We invented automobiles to run on gasoline, we invented turbines to make elecricity from steam generated from burning coal and we use the wind and sun to create energy as well.
Open2debate 2 years ago

THe moron. aughhhhhh.

This video is nothing but an ad hominem argument against Joe Barton. A petty recourse at best.
alphabetsoupsandwich 2 years ago
the point of the question is actually simple to infer. barton is suggesting that in order for there to be large deposits of oil and gas in alaska, then alaska had to be much warmer in the past to account for the amount of plant and animals that died over the millions of years to create those fossil fuels.
controlledentropy 2 years ago
The question is, however, dumb because
A. there is lots of vegetation and animal life in alaska now, so it doesn't really need to be warmer.
B. the earth has gone through several cycles of warming and cooling, so it probably was warmer at some point, and much colder at other times. regardless, over millions of years, there would be enough flora and fauna living there to account fort he fossil fuels.

This is why Republicans are losing. I wish they'd get some smart conservatives (yes there are many out ther).
