  • Josh, You need to exceed 12 volts or whatever the voltage is on the batteries to do any charging. Car batteries just won't cut it. They are meant to provide a large amount of power for a short time, such as starting a car, and then be charged right back up. You really need deep cycle batteries or even marine batteries which can ran down or cycled repeatedly. They are designed different than car batteries. Hopes this helps ya get started. FYI,Golf cart batteries are a great choice for the $.

  • I'm trying to get an idea of how long it would take to charge a couple of car batteries with something like this if it was generating around 5 volts thank you Nate.

  • Mark, I just use a really thick wire. #6 welding cable. It has super thick insulation which acts like a rubber band. When twisted a few times it just untwists itself You could use slip rings too. Just by good ones, the cheap ones fail. Take care.

  • Hello,

Great job. I really like your bearing idea. My question & concern is, as you run the wires down throgh the center of the pipe tower, HOW do you keep the wire from twisting all up. I think sooner or later it will twist itself too tight and create problems. Thanks

  • hey Nate great job on the turbine !!!!!!!! nice and smooth running

    have a great day

    Dave

  • @davevanden1 Thanx Dave, Have been happy with it so far but it is my first, and there are a few things I'd change. I'll do better on #2.

  • Hi

love the way you made this turbine.

    It turn's oohhh soo smooth.

    Great job

    Greetings

    Erik

  • @rikkiesix Thanx Rikkie. Can't stand the one's that squeak. Had to use B.B.'s.

  • Lad, The blades are corbon fiber lexan composite. Much stronger than fiberglass. Stay away from PVC blades, they WILL snap eventually. Aluminum, O.K. but too dished. Wood, seem some nice ones. You could put the doughnut mags but you might be dissapointed. You could make one with a GM alternator but I would personally just buy one. Getting the right stator wind is key. Missouri Wind and Solar is where I got mine. Don't care for the others (Wind Blue,Presto, etc.), they don't put out near the amps.

  • amazing! everything's clean, sharp, beautifully constructed, and simple! i'm really interested in the hornet blades. are they metal or pvc? and what do you suggest using to replace the rotor in a pma setup like this? i pondered replacing the coil inside the factory rotor with two neodymium doughnut magents,...do u think this will work well?

  • Beautiful PMA mount you made there Nate, that's a sweet setup.

  • Thanx. Gonna make my tail a bit bigger so it will track better. The 9 blades really have a lot more horizontal load causing it to search around. Not a problem w/the 6.

  • Thanx! Lots of Bondo. LOL. I'll show my new tail in the next video. The old one is just too small.

  • Well done! Im thinking about building a second turbine, and I was considering something along this design. I like the simple, but elegant design.

  • Thanx guys! I appreciate it! Work in progress.

  • great video beautiful turbine you do awesome work keep us updated thanksTAKE CARE

  • well, i watched all your vids, i think you did a very good job.

    regards

    sam
