  • You made me want to be an English teacher in Japan :D

  • Well even if I wanted to leave I can't cause I'm in the military. I live in Yokosuka and it's not bad here at all. They did evacuate the base but everyone is back. I'm out in like 5 months I'm thinking about moving to tokyo and going to my first two years of college there. If you need some american friend hit me up dude we got taco bell on base!

  • I would love to come there and teach. I just got my bachelors degree, but the JET program is done with their applications for 2011. :(

  • as soon as i save up enough money I'll be going there!

  • I still want to come despite the disasters.

  • @NathanTZ Do it Nathan!

  • I agree the fear that this crisis struck in the people is way over exaggerated. I'm headed over there to attend a university and whenever i mention it people automatically question me "aren't you afraid or what if it happens again?" I know its a big deal but really it hasn't changed my mind about going. Japan is the place I see myself in the future and their attitude as you mentioned is a big plus for me I've always loved the Japanese mentality.

  • @Aeroburous Thanks so much for your comment. I'm really happy you haven't been deterred from coming here. Get here ASAP!

  • Have you checked out The Balloon Market? They have stuff like hot dogs and monster burgers. It`s off 公園通り(こうえんどお/Koen Dori). Also, if your Japanese is okay and you`re not against drinking alcohol, you should be able to meet some people in bars. Certain kinds of bars and restaurants will mainly have young people working there. The place mentioned seems to be ran by a young couple, for example.

Hang in there. Just a couple months at worst, right.

  • @JapanAndThings

Thanks for the messages, I really appreciate it! I have indeed checked out the Balloon Market, as well as a beautiful park nearby.

Funny you mentioned the bars and restaurants - as my Japanese is adequate, I went to the most popular izakaya in town in the hope to practice Japanse - and I was subsequently placed in a private room. Guess they don't see 外人 too often. Good memory.

Three weeks to go. Then onward and outward.

  • @JapanAndThings Only 3 weeks until the new teacher arrives? You should still try to have some fun since you`ve got time. Try a shot bar, darts bar, or places that have something like "cafe bar" in the name or ad. Even if it`s an off day and just the master/店長 working there, they`re usually good at keeping a conversation since it`s part of the job, so it should be fun.

  • @JapanAndThings Thanks a lot for your input. I'm doing it tomorrow night!
