I'm getting this phone today. I used to have a Samsung Seek, which was really nice and all, but my mom had this one, and I became obsessed with it! CAN'T WAIT!!! :D
Sorry guys but I've had this tp2 for sprint for about 6 months now, I can say it was worth the buy. It slows down extremely after about 1 month, everything lags. The most pressing problem would be that the unlock button doesnt always respond causing me to take out the batter than restarting...Also the headset jack doesnt register after a little bit of use leaving you soundless until you use your stylus to probe around...Very sad performance:l
I've had good luck with mine. I turned off GPS and WiFi and check email manually - great battery life. The Touch Pro 2 is a great portable computing business phone with MS Mobile Office. I suggest installing Google Maps.
Oracle is suing Google over copyright infrinegments over its Java version used in Android phones. That should prove interesting.
Should i get this or the htc hero? I want to play apps and an app store. I know the droid store has plenty of apps buti know i should finish the video but i wanted to know what apps are available for the touch pro
As I've commented on before, thank you for including a sampling of browser use in your video reviews. It really helps me understand how the pages look when they load and if the phone is functional for browsing. Thanks!
Ok, So i have been noticing that most of the phones are not Female/ Nail friendly.. I have the samsung Mythic that works very well with my Fake nails.. What phone from Sprint would you suggest that would work that is nail sensitive for the touch screen. I hate sliding keypads.. Im a Major Touch screen girl.. and most carriers have heat sensitive.. not nail friendly phones? Anyway thanks for your help.
I have a palm and want to upgrade it to this phone but I don't know how much I will pay I've been with sprint for more than 2 years if this helps please answer
i have this phone and it has android mine came with 4 g of memory 12 hour battery life and thats talking the phone doesnt need a stylus to work good this phone is amazing
Sprint TV works perfect. I don't know what the other guy is talking about. This phone works perfect when you want to use the wifi version with a laptop and man, it's faster than any air card I've ever used when I connect it with a laptop.
Sprint TV is definitely one of the worst apps I've ever seen on a phone. It's slow, buggy and LAGS HORRIBLY no matter what device it's put on.
I never used it on my TP, and I most likely won't be using it on my TP2 when I get it.
I don't understand why HTC chose to use the outdated Qualcomm 7200A processor. It's really a shame they couldn't manage to fit a Snapdragon in this thing. Maybe it wasn't out at the time of this device's production?
The thing that pisses me off about the Touch Pro 2s keyboard vs. the Touch Pro's? They removed the CTRL key and put an EXTREMELY redundant, stupid "MMS / SMS" button. I used all the "CTRL" functions that normal PC's have:
CTRL + X;
CTRL + V
CTRL + C
ETC.
There were a few apps that I ran across where the standard windows mobile copy and paste / edit menus wouldn't work, so it was useful to have the hardware option. I have no idea why they thought to remove a perfectly functional key like that?
dude im in the same situation but I have looked at the facts and this phone would be the smart choice. The moment is not as "smart" as this one. by that I mean its not a good.
lol, I found it funny that when the stocks are first shown, all the stocks are doing well ofcourse except for the HTC stock, which I found funny.
I just got this phone, and so far I love it. Its the keyboard that is really the star of it, and I think part of the reason it weighs so much is the tilt feature throws the balance of the phone off so it needs a strong base weight. Thanks for the review.
I have a question and a correction for you. First the correction, you said to activate the speaker phone by pushing the button on the back. That is not true, you flip it screen down and speaker phone will automatically start. THe button is a mute button.
My Question to you is that the Telenav for windows mobile looks way different. Is it customized for this phone? And does it fade out any music when narrating directions?
There is an option to turn automatic activate speaker on when the phone is faced down. If you don't turn this on as some folks might put their phone face down as a habit you will need to push the button to launch the speaker.
Well then, I stand corrected. Thank you for your info!
How did you like the performance? I don't know if you've ever reviewed the Pre, but I'm thinking of switching back to WinMo, because I'm missing a lot of the features. What's your opinion between TP2 and Pre?
@MobileTechReview Ok, So i have been noticing that most of the phones are not Female/ Nail friendly..
@MAGGZ214 Any touch screen that's resistive touch screen can respond to fingernail very well. The capacitive touch screens like the iPhones need flesh to work. So when you look for phones look for screens that are resistive.
Sprint Navigation adds some Sprint branding and their own services to the TeleNav core, but most of the core functions are the same. It's not uncommon to see customization for specific phone though. Yes, when you turn on the voice guidance it will block off other audio except phone calls.
Oh and I forgot to ask about the TeleNav. I should rephrase it, was it upgraded for this phone? Because on the original TP, Telenav was pixelated; they ported it from the 6700 and mogul models which were xga resolutions. Did you notice any new features in telenav? And you're certain about the voice guidance blocking any audio when needed? Because the TP, Mogul and 6700 did no do that. It would just sound off with my music playing in full.
this phone does not suck its for the people that love computers and other stuff like that. if youre not a tech person like me or some ohters you wont understand this phone. and what phone doesnt freeze at times.
The 69.99 data plan w/450 anytime minutes and UNLIMITED mobile to mobile from any cell carrier is hands down the best plan out there. This includes of course unlimited text, internet, picture mail, gps as well as Sprint TV.
Most of us call only cellulars anyways and if still calling a landline, nights start at 7PM as well.
I was torn between this phone and the Palm Pre once my contract is over to renew but I think I have made by decision to go with Pro 2.
That is the plan that I have. Honestly you can't go wrong with it! I get a 19% discount through my work and its even better! I haven't seen a plan like this and I got it and its awsome! Basically its an all you can eat plan for dirt cheap and sprint is awsome!! I have only had 1 little problem with my phone while with sprint and I got it fixed for free. I love sprint! And this phone makes it all the better!
Holy shit!! HTC actually added a 3.5mm jack...WOOT!. Seriously, I lost all prospects of getting this phone just because I thought they wouldn't get with the program and add a headphone jack. Now I can transfer all my Rhapsody DRM tracks and be proud of listening to them on a HTC phone...instead of fumbling with a flakey usb remote of attactment for my mogul. I will miss the flash(light) :( though
Yeah, the fact that the TP2 doesn't have a flash like the TP1 did is rather puzzling. You would have thought they would have been able to fit the mute button somewhere else and still accommodate a flash. Sort of makes any usefulness the camera would have had reduced by over half (since low-light photography is now out of the question with this device).
At least they added a 3.5mm jack, though. That's something that I have been waiting for FOREVER in an HTC device. lol...
I love Sprint because we have Simply Everything $99.99 Plan and we can watch movies on YouTube and watch TV at a different time and i love you HTC TP2.
Nice phone but if you have Touch Pro like I do, i dont really see the point in upgrading anytime soon. Just my opinion, but i dont really see to many upgrades from the touch pro. Of cousre larger screen is a plus, but other than that............
too bad it doesnt have flash on the phone or a self portrait.I really want this phone cant wait til Dec 1.thanks for the great review =]!but i have a question would it freeze alot?my sister said that touch screen phones tend to freeze alot.
It doesn't freeze, and the touch screen doesn't make the phone freeze either. But the phone does get slow if you run lots of apps and it never hurts to soft reset it once in a while.
I'm really considering this phone. But something tells me that the standard processor in the phone won't hold up for everything this phone has on it. the 528mhz is the same as I currently have in the T-mo Mytouch. My current phone is extremely laggy, even when typing. If HTC had updated the processor, it would be a done deal for me...I may wait until next Spring to see what else is released.
Finally, A person who has wireless experience, doing a wireless review!! Excellent review and that is coming from someone who has worked in the industry for 10 years. Great job!
This phone is amazing. Coupled with the unlimited everything data plan, you'll actually be saving a TON of money in the long run, even when paying 350 for a phone at the start. I don't know why everyone thinks this is that expensive.. the Iphone 3GS costs 300 and people never complained. Now 50 dollars for a vastly superior device isn't worth it? Please.
I'm switching! (Contract was almost up anyways)
QUESTION!! Does the on screen keyboard switch to landscape mode when you turn it around?
If you switch carriers for the Sprint version of the phone, you're an idiot. Why not switch to Verizon's? It's only $199, and it also has the 3.5mm jack. Not to mention it doesn't have that ugly halloween color scheme.
So at $20 less per month the initial $150 you save on the phone will be gone in 7.5 months. Over the course of your 2 year contract you'll end up paying $330.00 more.
You get UNLIMITED mobile minutes. That means you can call ANYONE on ANY network for 69.99/month. Oh, and yeah.. you get unlimited SMS, MMS, Data plan, GPS, Sprint TV and everything else in this package, too.
And it should be noted that Sprint actually beat Verizon in a speed test on BGRs report.
Sprint is awesome.
BTW, most people who get new smart phoens already have a smart phone, so they can sell it and save a lot of money.
You get unlimited mobile minutes. You get 450 ANYTIME minutes. If you're calling anyone on the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-mobile, that doesn't use your original 450 anytime minutes.
Up front you pay more but Verizon charges more for all you get with Sprints version. I will be paying $68 a month all data, gps, sprint tv, radio anytime to mobile mins 450 anytime mins compared to Verizons expensive data plan!! In a few months verizon customer already feeling the bill!!!
the phone is just too big. I guess this is good for business people. And it's too pricey. I would get it for 200. Not 350. When's Diamond 2 coming out? I rather get that. I don't need keyboard.
I already got this phone today and it worth it to get it. Forgot Iphone 3Gs has this HTC Pro 2 beats it anytime. It has all important features compare to Iphone Lack of features it has like Flash & Java capabilities. Also who wants Iphone where the battery is welded in and also memory is built in. Yup a Iphone is junk phone has I prefer Windows Mobile HTC Pro 2 which I can change battery and expand my Memory anytime. :)-
Great review, man that sprint tv is pretty amazing, i am going to get a sprint contract next week, this will be my first real cell phone, i have been using pre-paid dollar store phone for the past years or so..
I'm getting this phone today. I used to have a Samsung Seek, which was really nice and all, but my mom had this one, and I became obsessed with it! CAN'T WAIT!!! :D

Is this phone better than the HERO?
a) has better keyboard, bigger screen
b) has windows, hero has android, hero wins
c) has wifi, can be used as modem for laptop, htc hero has no wifi
d) Hero has lesser lag, this phone works perfect if only used with the stylus, hero works perfect without stylus.
e) this comes with a 1gb and hero comes with a 2gb
f) Value for money - HERO
g) Overall - HERO
h) Battery life - Not too sure but they're similar
i) Typing - this

If you switch carriers for the Sprint version of the phone, you're an idiot. Why not switch to Verizon's? It's only $199, and it also has the 3.5mm jack. Not to mention it doesn't have that ugly halloween color scheme.
archimedesjs 2 years ago
Probably becasue the more expensive monthly fees at Verizon eat up any savings within a couple months, not to mention over the full 2 year contract.
Dolgon2008 2 years ago
Have you actually done a monthly comparison of the two's charges for the same service? Maybe you should.
archimedesjs 2 years ago
Yes, I have - here it is:
Verizon:
450 Minutes: $39.99/mo
Unlimited internet (required if you connect to a work exchange server): $44.99/mo
250 Messages: $5.00/mo
Total $89.98/month
Sprint:
450 minutes, Unlimited texts & Internet: $69.99/month
So at $20 less per month the initial $150 you save on the phone will be gone in 7.5 months. Over the course of your 2 year contract you'll end up paying $330.00 more.
Did you do a comparison?
Dolgon2008 2 years ago 3
You made a slight mistake about Sprint..

You get unlimited mobile minutes. You get 450 ANYTIME minutes. If you're calling anyone on the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-mobile, that doesn't use your original 450 anytime minutes.

No, actually, YOU are wrong. You DO get unlimited mobile minutes (any carrier), and 450 anytime minutes. Fact.

the phone is just too big.

I felt very much like I was taking a college English class instead of watching gadget pr0n. She sounds just like an English/Math/History teacher. lol

no ctrl

There's an app to remap the keyboard, but yeah it's annoying. No Tab either. Why would you need a messaging button and an sms/mms button?

Could you make a video on how it handles YouTube videos? thanks
deelnyc 2 years ago
We tested YouTube on this phone, it played smoothly at full screen. You do get occasional buffering but it's very watchable.

I wish they came out with the 5mp camera like on the HTC Touch HD. The 3.5mm jack is a good compromise though. ( HTC Pro 2 Owner)

difference between capacitive and resistive screen???
Mismagius88 2 years ago
I really want to see what XDA can do with this thing.
pookiewood 2 years ago
Indeed.
MobileTechReview 2 years ago
so is the screen resistive or capacitive? But since I see it using stylus I guess it is resistive
dodow1234 2 years ago
You got it. It's resistive. Windows Mobile 6.1 doesn't support capacitive screens.
