@ToxicCynder no they weren't. They were all computer generated. It does look extremely real. But if you watch the end credits you actually see the CGI generated storm clouds. Plus at the end if they actually hid in a shed like they did in a real tornado. They'd be gone.

My wife and I live in the country in northern Iowa and can see storms for miles....Everytime we know we're "under the gun," we pop some popcorn, crack open a couple cold ones and throw this into the VCR!!! Many times over the years, we've seen tornadoes come close-and had to head for the cellar, but thankfully, we've never had a direct hit! When that series of tornadoes hit northwest Iowa the other night, we were watching this movie and it was a night we definitely took cover!!!

The last 2 seconds of this video is one of them most incredible special effects that you had seen up to that point in movie-making.

For some weird reason, this dramatic final 2-second effect, never made it to the film version and was cut.

Shame, shame, but i you watch this clip, blow it up to 'full-screen' for incredible viewing pleasure.
