Eleonora
then when it switch to "nothing gonna keep away the bad times" it goes Dm Em F D7
and "then nothing gonna keep away heaven" is C B/C (or C chord with root not of B) A G F G thats about it, i think i might be missing a chord somewhere.
PL1b, cheers for your comments! I'm a huge lover of this song as well. Slightly different from the version that appeared as an outtake on the "Who Came First" album. I am touched by your kind words!
Wow! I thought I was the only I Always Say fan out there! I just love his 'old Marshal and Rose' in this - so 'Christmas Demo'. And what an unusual song for the Pete of 1968! Good for him, right? and good for you! Cool pictures. Glad somebody did this beautiful demo by the greatest writer of the 20th century justice!
Yep, this is definitely 1968 - recorded at Studio 5, Elbury St. (where all the Tommy Demos were recorded). This was the first year Pete used pianos, and this one is definitely the one (piano) he used in 1968 for the Tommy Demos...
I never say never unless I know for sure, but my guess is, it's unlikely that this song was recorded in 1965. The lyrics are too sophisticated, the song is too long and Pete's voice is too polished.
GREAT pictures though. Interesting to see the now large and bulky Chris (Entsiwtle) as a toddler, and John, who collected cars but didn't drive, sitting behind wheel.
Nah, it's not on any of the Scoop releases. As far as I'm aware, this song has never been released commercially. I got this song in a bootleg of early Who recordings and this is one track that really stands out for me. I just had to post it up for people to hear :)

then when it switch to "nothing gonna keep away the bad times" it goes Dm Em F D7

I believe this demo dates back to 1968, note how similar it sounds to the Tommy demos

CORRECTION TO THE SONG "I ALWAYS SAY"
It's an outtake off of his first solo album "Who Came First" from 1972.
unclealbert72 5 years ago
This could be from 1965. The Ox from the My Generation album is over 4 minutes long

Pete doesn't have a sister, does he?
Zacdawac 5 years ago
Nope, no sisters for Pete, just a couple younger brothers.
John was once asked "if you don't drive, what do you do with so many cars?" John's response: "I drink in 'em".

I believe this song was JUST released as a bonus track when all of Pete's backcatalogue was re-released recently.
I don't know if it's this exact version or a polished up one, but it's now on the rereleased Who Came First cd.
I saw it at the Virgin Megastore in NY when I went to go see the Who last week, but I didn't have enough quid on me to buy it :(

does ayone know why Pete and Roger are hugging in that one picture?
rebel4500 5 years ago
it was the first show after Johns sad death, they walked on stage and Pete came over and hugged him, Roger looked very shocked.
