Good video. I have had black hair and off for about 10 years. If I bleached it it was only enough to put punky color or something over it. My hair is black/very dark brown now and I am looking to go lighter, hopefully something close to my natural color which is very similar to your color. I have never used toners or color removers, so it's something I am going to try this go around. One question though, did you use foil when you bleached it ?
@o0handbanana0o nope no foil..I was finding it too hard to do on my own w/foil. I basically just saturated my whole head w/it. I would recommend foil if you can though, especially to try to keep it off of your scalp. If not though, i dont recommend piling your hair on your head.. just wear a shirt you don't mind ruining and wrap a towel around your neck so it doesn't touch your skin. Im sure you know it can definitely burn! Not to mention the chemicals coming in contact w/skin!
I have naturally dark brown hair and 2 days ago I dyed it black. A few years ago I would always dye my fringe blonde and other bits but now it's just all black. Anyway I was just wondering do you think i would be able to dye just my fringe bleach blonde? If so what would I need to do? Thanks in advance
@KTM85sxRider yeah, i'd just follow the same steps as in the video, but be sure not to let it touch any of the rest of your hair. So basically, color remover, bleach, toner
I use to dye my haiy black and then I wait for some months and started to use black toners, then I wait some more months and now I dyed my hair chocolate... But i don't like it very much, 'cause after some time, the hair look a little red and weird...I'm really scared to do stuff to my hair because it's very porous and weak and the ends break a lot...I think I need more treatment before dying or toning more... What kind of treatment do you do after all this?
@traveler1938 I actually used olive oil twice a week. I put it on everywhere except my scalp and let it sit for about a half an hour, then shampooed and conditioned. Also, using a leave in conditioner (i like infusium) really helps too. I avoided using heat for about a month as well, and my hair seemed to be relatively healthy. If your hair is already brittle, I would try to work on getting it in better shape first.. maybe try treatments for a few weeks, then see if it seems strong enough!
@mollzz ok thanks. Do you think it would come out less brassy because I only dyed my hair black a day ago and was thinking about removing the color today or tomorrow
@missnicole323 you can definitely try, but it might not leave it a desirable color. Mine wasn't too bad-- a reddish brassy color, but it was even and didn't look ridiculous. I just wanted it lighter. If you want to see what mine kind of looked like, check out twixtbetwixt's video on color fix.. part two shows her hair after she used it
Let me first mention that I absolutely love you for this video! I've been dying my hair black for 7 years and finally decided to try to get rid of it. I once tried to put color over color and realized that didnt work (Gave me some reddish brown on the top of my head) Well today I color fixed twice and the black is comepletely gone! * Jumping for joy!* But now im left with this brassy brown color, has a weird reddish tint in the sun. Can I dye over this now? What color could I use? Thank you!!!
@JFrance1021 That brassy brown is exactly how it left mine! If you are planning to go a lighter shade than what it is now (lighter brown, blonde) then you'll HAVE to bleach it, unfortunately, which is what I did. If you want to get rid of the red completely, you'll also have to bleach. If you want to keep it around the same shade or darker you can definitely dye over it. To dye over it, use a color that has ASH in the name, like "ash brown". It will kind of "cancel out" the reddish hues for you
so I tried dying my hair red and now its fading into the color I had before (light brown).. since I'm gonna go red again.. it looks like i'm gonna need to get me some Color Fix to remove all the unwanted hair color! now should I bleach it there after.. and then use a toner? I'm tired of my hair color fading! any suggestions?
Please i really need help=( ok hears the story, I have naturally honey blonde hair and i dyed my hair dark brown, and i tried to get it back blonde and they said they cant do it my hair wil get damaged blah blah blah, and its been 4 months and i still have dark hair and my roots are blonde and i hate it, please i need advice, i just want my blonde hair back=(.
Thank you so much. I am basically doing the same thing so far. I have already used Color Fix twice and a good amount of color has already come out but it wasn't enough and I got scared to do any more. After watching this you have given me the courage to go back to get more Color Fix and then bleach. I almost tried ColorZap, glad I didn't. Thanks again for sharing.
@LydiaLikeWoah That is what I'd do. It turned my hair a reddish orange color, but completely removed the black. So I bleached it a couple of times and it got it light blonde. You should be good to bleach it now. I hadn't had any success bleaching when it was black--it wouldn't even remove any of the black color. Once I got the black out using color fix, it bleached out pretty easily! Good luck
Just wanted to say a great big thank you for this vid, I have just got the Colorfix this morning (can't get it in England so had to wait for it to be shipped for USA - was like waiting for Christmas lol) and I can't wait for this weekend to try it...had dyed black hair for about 14 years and want to go back to my roots - natural blonde ;D soooo can't wait to get going and it's all thanks to you and your brilliant research. Again well done and thank you x
@SamnStu No problem! good luck! It was definitely a little difficult because I had been dying it for so many years, but I finally found something that worked! Hope it comes out nicely
iv been dying my hair dark brown for 7-8 years and iv had enough of it.
Im natually a ash blonde and really want it back. Iv used colorb4 only had to use it 3 times and my hair came out a orange light color . dyed it a ash blonde then the color cam out dark AGAIN. lol. gonna try your fix trick. thnxs for the vid :)
O my your hair went thru a lot , I've done some crazy stuff to my hair as well. Currently my hair is black , I dye my hair black like two months ago, but it wasnt permanent. So now I want to dye it brown .
hi there, i have the same problem as yours, i dye my hair black, cuz before i dye my hair into brown,. but now i want to color it again as dark ash brown, i will buy that color fix, and hair bleach, but do u think i will still need a toner? ow im a asian, so i have strong black hair..
please help me,. because this product are not available in my country, so i will be get all this product in ebay, maybe i will buy 3 color fix + loreal bleaching + loreal developer 20 .....
@camilla0monique I'm not positive but I would be safe and get a toner. Any bleaching job that I have ever seen ends up with a lot of orange, and if you use a toner it minimizes it a lot. Plus, if it has orange tones after bleaching and you dye over it, if the dye starts to fade a little after a few weeks, you'll be able to see those orange tones coming through. A toner should take care of that though, and they're pretty inexpensive
This was one of the MOST informative videos I have seen on bleaching/removing BLACK hair! So many tips...I wished I would've watched this video before spending 2 weeks researching it only to get 4 different colors on my hair. I have tried bleaching 2 times and cannot seem to get the BLACK out...time to try COLORFIX!
@illicitdolphin yes! definitely try the color fix and then bleach again if you have to! I went through the same thing.. bleach just wasn't touching the black! It was so frustrating. The color remover is what really did the trick for me though. It lifts a lot of the really dark colors out and it makes bleaching it MUCH for effective. Good luck!
@mollzz Okay so I used the Colorfix...I was actually able to get two apps out of it so I did it twice in one day. It faded the color...just a little...so then I waited a couple of days, did a protein pack and then bleached again. So now it's a reddish brown...how many more times do I need to bleach to get it at least a brassy orange? And how often should I wait in between bleachings? I'm using ION repair after bleaching. Top is yellow, middle is orange-red (fire red), and ends are red-brown.
@illicitdolphin wow, so I never got this comment! Just seeing it now... I'd say that my hair that color would take two more bleachings. I would usually try to wait at least 2 days, sometimes 3 or 4 in between. I have done it all in one day before and my hair didn't fall out, but it was much more damaged. This last time I'm sure it was damaged, but it wasn't noticeable.
I used to have black hair,i had it for a few weeks, and i HATED IT,so i tried a hair color remover, and it turned my hair BRIGHT ORANGE. i was so pissed,so i went back to darker hair, not black, but close. after not dying my hair for 3 months,i dyed my hair red,and its still red,and i kinda want to dye my hair blonde,so would the bleach with the 30 developer work better,or hair color remover? and would it turn orange again?
@PenisAtTheDisc0 hmm.. I'm not positive but I know that red is really a bitch to get out.. possibly even worse than black. It will most likely turn orange for both options. Mine definitely went through orange stages between bleachings. You might have to bleach it several times if you really want it to not have orange undertones. It might come out easily for you, but be prepared to have ridiculous hair for a few days, just in case.
I used the color remover and my hair turned kinda brassy help! Do you have to bleach or should I tone it right after the color remover? I was also wondering did u mix the toner with the pure vol 30 bc it says on the bottle??
@brilliantbrunette77 hm.. i'd say if its as light as you want it, just tone. I just bleached mine because i wanted it lighter than the color remover left it. and yeah, i just mixed the developer that it told me to use on the toner box
I used Colour Oops (the only product I found in my area) to remove black dye. I ended up with some brassy medium shade of brown that I actually like. But I need to even out the colour and cover grey roots. The problem is, my hair is extremely porous now. I did some tests and any colour I apply turns to black. Even extra-light blond...!? Do you know what's going on? Any tricks? Should I let my hair rest? Would bleaching it help? Thanks a lot!
@tremblm1 I've found that it is definitely best to let it rest. Bleaching it usually just makes it more porous... I have had 2 results.. bleaching will make it more porous, or it won't hold any color at all. But what I do if I really want to cover up the brassy tones is use a semi perm dye, like natural instincts. It may come out a little dark, but it washes out within a few shampoos and lightens up gradually. i usually only leave it on for 5-10 minutes, too
i dyed my hair black twice. attempting lift the dye, i tried 2 proixide treatments. last night i tried to dye my hair a redish brown. now i have oranage roots with dark hair. joy.
i just placed a order and ordered everything since we do not have a Sally's where i lived (bummer)! i have been dying my hair black for 5 yrs and i really hope it works. I will post if it does and Thank You so much for the info.
also.. Idk if there is any comments about this.. but like, if you bleach your hair a bunch.. it makes it porous.. you need to condition/use more color blah blah or it won't hold it.
fyi! if you're hair is ever chemically damaged... from dye, bleach etc I HIGHLY recommend the the EXTREME brand from Redken. I used to bleach the crap/burn my hair, and I discovered this brand.. (specifically the extreme deep fuel treatments, and the anti-snap leave in treatment) they rock. [ :

will my hair still dye if i don't bleach but i still use the hair color remover? cuz i have my roots and end of my hair natural but the whole color in between that is pure black. let me know!!
@ASHLEY031696 i would definitely try the color fix first. On my hair it didn't change my natural color at all.. my roots didn't get any lighter at all. You'll still need to either dye or bleach after the color remover---it doesn't leave the hair looking spectacular, just light enough to do something with.
@AdaSweet@AdaSweet I've tried to reply to this so many times... not sure why it won't show up.. Try folica (dot) com. I know they have it but not sure if the shipping is international
Stumbled on you and wanted to say your not alone! Did black and dark brown a few times and have learned NEVER AGAIN! I now do medium brown or light to switch it up. Never again a blonde! Trying to get natural brown shades for my thick long hair I havent cut in two years.
I know what you mean! I'm having a really hard time getting a natural brown color that will LAST now. I wish I didn't have to dye it at all, but it fades into gross colors, so I have to redo it. My goal is to stop dying it all together! Well, at least with permanent colors.. Maybe natural instincts or something
Actually, I tried that! When I was 16 I went to the salon and they said it wouldn't come out and advised me to use semi permanant, so I did for well over a year, then attempted to bleach it and it STILL wouldn't budge. Black is the worst!
omg poor girl, all that crap you had to go through! lol I know how it feels to walk around with nasty lookin hair for a day or two. it sucks! Glad you were able to finally get a color you like :)
I think it also depends on the haircolor itself... I tried the Loreal for Latinas in brown black or something like that, and it's NOT black but very close... I've had a bitch of a time recoloring because even though it's not black, the formulation is almost identical. With that being said, I'm wanting to go blonde and I know it's going to damage my hair when I finally do get the color I want.

How much damage do you want to do? people who watch this really shouldnt do this. most people will get damaged hair and when you get old, your hair will be terrible!

like I said, you can't lift black hair dye without bleach, nothing has enough peroxide in it to lift, you should know that if you're licensed. When you are going to make it lighter, you need to remove colour molecules. That is the definition of BLEACHING.
I already knew all that. Your comment was "if you lifting the hair then your bleach"- i took your exact words. You probably meant it in a different way than it was interpreted. I'm not putting up an argument with you but some people rely on other's information on color and like me, someone once gave me bad advice many many years ago before cosmetology school and I screwed up my hair beyond repair.
Cool video. We really do learn from out mistakes-- I did before cosmetology school. But here's a tip: instead of using a color remover, you can mix equal parts of shampoo, 20 developer and bleach and leave it on for 20 minutes and it will bleach out the dye. It's cheaper than buying those dye removal kits.
You have to watch out with Colorfix. I used it twice within a few months (probably 6 months apart) and it relaxed my natural wavy/curly hair.. My hair has since grown out and there is about 6 inches of hair that just won't curl whatsoever for me. Just watch out curly girls!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I go to cosmetology school, if your "lifting" the hair then you're bleaching it, the only reason why it doesn't come out super blonde is because the hair was dyed black which causes it to turn a weird brownish color... the only difference is that you just might be using a safer type of bleach, theirs also something called keratin bleach which I was told is a TINY bit safer...
Weird! Color fix didnt change the color of my roots at all. I liked that SO much because it wasn't necessary to be soo careful.
When I put powder lightener on my hair (like bw2) it doesn't do anything to the black at all (except for near roots), but the color fix produced crazy results, but was gentle!
It's weird though, because none of the ingredients are comparable between color fix and the bw2 bleach, except for sodium laurel sulfate, which I'm assuming is just used for consistency purposes
Luv Ur Video! You're funny.. thanxs for all the tips..im trying to get black dye out of my hair but also got sum purple highlights Gosh Wish me luck!!!. . .
wow I didnt know this! I love this video! Black was always hard for me to get out...stripping it sucks and my hair is constantly a different color so its a bit damaged. I love the eyeshadow in this video though, youre rocking it!
You PULLED AN ORANGE!!! LOL Seriously though it looks great here, but looks reddish (auburn) like mine...can't wait to see it live. Great job! Still would love to see some pics of it when it was light for those few days...
I have naturally dark brown hair and I wanted to go to blonde and went to the shop and they made my hair fall out so I decided I couldn't do any worse and went to wal mart and bought feria' bleach blonde the one with a pic of a guy on the box and it took it all the way to almost white blonde then I just picked out a box of hair dye a few shades darker and used it and it turned out very nice and my hair was in great shape conpared to what the shop left it like
@mammabutterfly75 thats exactly how I felt.. I thought, well... I can always go back to black hair no matter what, so I just went for it myself. I almost had to because everyone else was too scared! lol. I'm glad it worked out for you!
you dont know how much i appreciate this video..lol..i have been dying my hair balack for years as well..i've been trying to grow it out for awhile its half way there so far, i've actually been wanting to go for a natural red color, maybe cherry ..but thanks so much for this will definitly try it..:)
@fallchild81 the first time I ever went to get it bleached the lady said that it wouldn't work and to use a semi permanent black dye. I did that for YEARS before I tried to get it out again and it STILL wouldn't come out! I was starting to think growing it out was going to be the only way... black dye is no joke, lol. I always want to go for the redder shades but always end up regretting it after b/c it doesn't fit me. Red is also kinda hard to get out too! Nothing like black though.. ugh
yeah and its so expensive to get it done professionally..hmm i can see you as a darker red ..idk lol we all see something different :) but thanks and take care
@LaTeeDa01 I plan on going to a really dark brown next! I loved having black hair but its just so harsh, ya know? I think brown will look a lot better on me.. I hope, or I did this for nothing, lol
I used to use a purple dye and bleached my hair before I put it on to see if it would be lilac lol, needless to say it wasn't. I am back to my own hair colour now as I can't hold my arms up long enough to do anything with it and just do the 10 min dye things every so often to cover the grey :0)
I just recently went from 3 color chunks (platinum, dark brown and red) to all platinum blonde. The dark brown really refused to budge all out in those spots so now I'm platinum blonde with those spots looking like low lights that are more golden. It looks ok, but I think this color stripper would have helped more. Thanks for sharing!

For the whole black dye on your skin thing... Dish soap.
I've dyed my hair black a few times, and now I'm slowly going back to my natural color.
But every time I'd get it on my ears, or cheeks even, I've used dish soap.
Of course, you gotta get it off right away or else you're screwed.

O my your hair went thru a lot , I've done some crazy stuff to my hair as well. Currently my hair is black , I dye my hair black like two months ago, but it wasnt permanent. So now I want to dye it brown .
computernb 1 year ago
hi there, i have the same problem as yours, i dye my hair black, cuz before i dye my hair into brown,. but now i want to color it again as dark ash brown, i will buy that color fix, and hair bleach, but do u think i will still need a toner? ow im a asian, so i have strong black hair..
please help me,. because this product are not available in my country, so i will be get all this product in ebay, maybe i will buy 3 color fix + loreal bleaching + loreal developer 20 .....
camilla0monique 1 year ago

I have tried bleaching 2 times and cannot seem to get the BLACK out...time to try COLORFIX!
illicitdolphin 1 year ago
@illicitdolphin yes! definitely try the color fix and then bleach again if you have to! I went through the same thing.. bleach just wasn't touching the black! It was so frustrating. The color remover is what really did the trick for me though. It lifts a lot of the really dark colors out and it makes bleaching it MUCH for effective. Good luck!
mollzz 1 year ago
@mollzz Okay so I used the Colorfix...I was actually able to get two apps out of it so I did it twice in one day. It faded the color...just a little...so then I waited a couple of days, did a protein pack and then bleached again. So now it's a reddish brown...how many more times do I need to bleach to get it at least a brassy orange? And how often should I wait in between bleachings? I'm using ION repair after bleaching. Top is yellow, middle is orange-red (fire red), and ends are red-brown.
illicitdolphin 1 year ago
@illicitdolphin wow, so I never got this comment! Just seeing it now... I'd say that my hair that color would take two more bleachings. I would usually try to wait at least 2 days, sometimes 3 or 4 in between. I have done it all in one day before and my hair didn't fall out, but it was much more damaged. This last time I'm sure it was damaged, but it wasn't noticeable.
mollzz 1 year ago
I used to have black hair,i had it for a few weeks, and i HATED IT,so i tried a hair color remover, and it turned my hair BRIGHT ORANGE. i was so pissed,so i went back to darker hair, not black, but close. after not dying my hair for 3 months,i dyed my hair red,and its still red,and i kinda want to dye my hair blonde,so would the bleach with the 30 developer work better,or hair color remover? and would it turn orange again?
PenisAtTheDisc0 1 year ago
@PenisAtTheDisc0 hmm.. I'm not positive but I know that red is really a bitch to get out.. possibly even worse than black. It will most likely turn orange for both options. Mine definitely went through orange stages between bleachings. You might have to bleach it several times if you really want it to not have orange undertones. It might come out easily for you, but be prepared to have ridiculous hair for a few days, just in case.

Like ur hair color!
I used the color remover and my hair turned kinda brassy help! Do you have to bleach or should I tone it right after the color remover? I was also wondering did u mix the toner with the pure vol 30 bc it says on the bottle??
brilliantbrunette77 1 year ago
@brilliantbrunette77 hm.. i'd say if its as light as you want it, just tone. I just bleached mine because i wanted it lighter than the color remover left it. and yeah, i just mixed the developer that it told me to use on the toner box
mollzz 1 year ago
Great video!
Thanks a lot!
tremblm1 1 year ago
@tremblm1 I've found that it is definitely best to let it rest. Bleaching it usually just makes it more porous... I have had 2 results.. bleaching will make it more porous, or it won't hold any color at all. But what I do if I really want to cover up the brassy tones is use a semi perm dye, like natural instincts. It may come out a little dark, but it washes out within a few shampoos and lightens up gradually. i usually only leave it on for 5-10 minutes, too

ASHLEY031696 1 year ago
@ASHLEY031696 i would definitely try the color fix first. On my hair it didn't change my natural color at all.. my roots didn't get any lighter at all. You'll still need to either dye or bleach after the color remover---it doesn't leave the hair looking spectacular, just light enough to do something with.

Stumbled on you and wanted to say your not alone! Did black and dark brown a few times and have learned NEVER AGAIN! I now do medium brown or light to switch it up. Never again a blonde! Trying to get natural brown shades for my thick long hair I havent cut in two years.
CatpurrRobertaBobbi 2 years ago
I know what you mean! I'm having a really hard time getting a natural brown color that will LAST now. I wish I didn't have to dye it at all, but it fades into gross colors, so I have to redo it. My goal is to stop dying it all together! Well, at least with permanent colors.. Maybe natural instincts or something
mollzz 2 years ago
when you were younger y didn't you just use semi permanant x
xx0clob0ft0nic0xx 2 years ago
Actually, I tried that! When I was 16 I went to the salon and they said it wouldn't come out and advised me to use semi permanant, so I did for well over a year, then attempted to bleach it and it STILL wouldn't budge. Black is the worst!
mollzz 2 years ago
omg poor girl, all that crap you had to go through! lol I know how it feels to walk around with nasty lookin hair for a day or two. it sucks! Glad you were able to finally get a color you like :)
4VRNLUV 2 years ago
yeah, it was NOT pretty! lol
i'm especially loving it now because I can actually change the color every now and then!
mollzz 2 years ago
I think it also depends on the haircolor itself... I tried the Loreal for Latinas in brown black or something like that, and it's NOT black but very close... I've had a bitch of a time recoloring because even though it's not black, the formulation is almost identical. With that being said, I'm wanting to go blonde and I know it's going to damage my hair when I finally do get the color I want.
Sonialei77 2 years ago
oh definitely!! I've learned to be really careful with dark browns because sometimes they act like black and just WILL NOT come out! so frustrating.

like I said, you can't lift black hair dye without bleach, nothing has enough peroxide in it to lift, you should know that if you're licensed. When you are going to make it lighter, you need to remove colour molecules. That is the definition of BLEACHING.
CarmenHasCooties 2 years ago
I already knew all that. Your comment was "if you lifting the hair then your bleach"- i took your exact words. You probably meant it in a different way than it was interpreted. I'm not putting up an argument with you but some people rely on other's information on color and like me, someone once gave me bad advice many many years ago before cosmetology school and I screwed up my hair beyond repair.
Wellaron 2 years ago
Wellaron 2 years ago
You have to watch out with Colorfix. I used it twice within a few months (probably 6 months apart) and it relaxed my natural wavy/curly hair.. My hair has since grown out and there is about 6 inches of hair that just won't curl whatsoever for me. Just watch out curly girls!

CarmenHasCooties 2 years ago

Nothing like black though.. ugh
