actually English IS one of the easiest languages. For instance,you can only conjugate a verb in one way in English, whereas in French, there are about five possible conjugations for a verb.

The grammar is really easy. Why? cause english allmost doesn't take the gender of a word in account, allmost every other language does that.

It is a fact that German languages (i.e. German, Dutch, English) are a lot easier to learn than Roman or Slavic languages (try learning Polish for instance)

English is actually far more difficult to learn than the romance languages, which don't include Russian or German. Russian is tricky for an English speaker because of the vast differences in pronunciation and that whole different alphabet thing. But, English grammar, pronunciation and sentence structure are all a lot more complicated than something like French or Spanish (those are Romance languages, fyi), English has lots of really silly rules that serve no purpose and rarely make any sense.

I have to comment! English is the most irrational language that people learn and that is why many have difficulties with it. I do not really think any language is difficult to learn. It only depends on the person learning it and if everybody only spoke English I think we would miss out on many fun experiences that languages bring with them. I speak Spanish fluently and know a good bit of French. And English is my native language, so I know just a tiny bit of English as well. Perhaps as a linguist English is the simplest language ever, but I know for me, and most people I've spoken to, the English grammar and pronunciation rules are far harder to pick up and remember than Spanish and French. English is pretty simple to piece together, poorly structured sentences, but learning to read, write and speak well is far from easy.

For someone out of west-europe, knowing four languages isnt all that suprising. I myself alone speak Dutch, French, German and English, have a working knowledge of Frisian and Luxemburgian and am able to converse in both the Nedersaksen and Limburgs dialect. And that isnt unordinary as a university grad. You simply learn a lot of languages in high school. (a lot of classmates even took greec and latin classes.)
