Let's get it straight. A lot of people who don't know shit are talking. The tessatura is really high, like early Sting high plus as it was mentioned before, he can't hear himself in the monitor in some shit club, so he's screaming. He most probably could sing it falsetto if the guitars were quieter
Joe Elliot can not sing live, he blows. I'm a huge Def Leppard fan, if it wasn't for Mutt Lang producing the album, they never would have went anywhere. Well that and the guitar riffs. But Joe can't sing for shit live
This is a tricky song to sing, I think Mutt sang some of the high harmonies, so these guys are trying their best, Joe sings alright til they come in and he prob can't hear himself on the chorus. I've heard this song slaughtered, this is not that bad.
Well, the vocals don't sound too good. Joe's just passable, and the vocal harmonies are terrible. But apart from that, this is pretty cool. I like hearing this band with real acoustic drums, something that had already gone by the wayside on Pyromania, even before Rick lost his arm.
Mutt Lang coached and taught Joe Elliot to open up his vocal range and hold different notes he didn't even know he could do... The Hysteria tour they sounded the best cause they were still young and his voice was better
That's because there was a Rick Allen with both hands, the one and only Steve Clark (RIP), and of course, there were so much, much, much younger... in Mexico we have a quote: "no es lo mismo los tres mosqueteros que 20 años después" (is not the same 20 years ago than up today)
@chrisconnernoah well this is 1983 but this is probably at a small bar or club or something, i think the 1988 in the round version was way better, thats probably the closest to the studio version u can get :)
manhoot, first of all learn how to talk, you talk like yoda from star wars. second dont ever mention def lep with your favorite bands nkotb and spice jokes, and just because a band is on mtv they sell out?? and if you dont like the band so much why are you here? please no more responds
It's cool to watch these older performances. I just can't get over how young they were. It's wild. They really rocked hard. And they still do in spite of what some people choose to believe. True Def Leppard fans know the truth.
no manhoot pay attention, they did not sell out, they got one of the best producers in the business and made a awesome album, how did they sell out? by making an album that has sold nearly 20 million copies itself? come on man dont make it so easy.
Selling 20 million copies of dreck does not a good band make. Otherwise NKOTB and Spice Girls would be views as "good" bands. They're not. They are image candy for the MTV generation, no more no less.
although pyromania is a kick ass cd Hysteria is known as the thriller of rock albums because it had so many hits on it, rocket, animal, love bites, pour some sugar on me,
armagennd, and hysteria, very few bands can do that, so to answer your question it is hysteria.
The "thriller" of rock albums? That title goes to thriller only as it was a ground breaking album for MJ. This, on the other hand, breaks no new ground other than sellout.
Def Leppard are not sell-outs. There still around, they did what they had to do to keep kickin'. Where Skid Row, Europe, Warrant, etc. Slang kept Def Leppard alive.
so sad??? this band has sold over 30 million records, and yet all their albums are not pyromania or hysteria which i might add is also know as the thriller of rock albums, they are still a great rock band and stop raging on joe lets here your voice after screaming for 30 years.
It's weird but that old union jack shirt makes Joe look like a superhero - and he sorta was to a whole generation of rockers - I do remember people getting pissed when he came out with all the racist remarks against mexicans though
And also, if you consider the old Def Leppard as "classic rock" or "rock n' roll" instead of "hard rock", you're probably one of those goth/emos that listen to retarted shit like SOAD or "Lamb Of God", where the drummer has to go 3,000 bps on their dbl bass-pedals.
You know, back then Def Leppard were one of the main leaders of heavy metal.. How things have changed, their drummer lost an arm, they released another breakthrough album, their guitarist died, yet they STILL maintain their title as a hard rock band, even if they got a little poppy with "X".
Ya not his best performance and he must have had a few shows before this one cuase his voice is pretty shot with this particular song. NO biggy though it happens now and then. Hey maybe this is what the all american rejects used as there video to mimick joes singing?
Well Joe did learn to sing *after* he got in the band. All those high notes made him lost his voice while on tour and he had to get a voice coach. You're right, he sounds screechy.
