Wow, people who say Christmas Lights is a rip off of this are actually deaf, unless you are LOOKING for similarities, you will not find any at all. Stupid Barclay James Harvest fans, whats your problem with Coldplay?!
As a Mancunian I was proud to be around when BJH took off. Saw them live at Hill Stores, Oldham (the Co-op) and followed them thereafter. Poor man's Moody Blues they may be but they are still one of the best bands around producing brilliant songs such as this.
Four working class guys from Oldham producing brilliant music. What a shame Mel and Woolly are no longer with us. Isn't this a great opportunity for Les and John to heal their differences and remind us what a great group of musicians BJH were ?
Really agree with howardcarter2010....Les Holroyd wrote his best material between 1974-78...that is album wise `Everyone is everybody else` to `XII`....After that BJH went pop which i think Mr Holroyd revelled in really...His west coast american influences would many years later lead to the end of BJH with the original line up...John lees eventually going back to the original formula to recreate his version of the band with original member Stuart `Woolly` wolstenholme (RIP..Listen to BJH 1970-78
Les Holroyd was at the top of his game in '75-'76 ... 'Song for you', 'Moongirl', 'Believe in me' ... but this gem , heavily influenced by the West Coast music he was listening to at the time, is the best song he ever wrote ...
The gig was at Colchester Arts Centre, a cool venue just up the road from me. I've seen a few bands from that era doing 'revival' tours and mostly i've been disappointed, but BJH definitely sounded as good as ever, and yeah, Woolly was a real laugh. I'll certainly be checking them out when they come back this way.
BJH never got the respect they desrved in the UK & the US.... but that is understandable considering how biased and bad Uk radios are and have been....
who has written more melodic and beautiful songs over the years than BJH?? i mean if coldplay sing this song or any of Les Holroyd's other great songs they will go to number one right!!? point taken!
then there are so many other great British artists that never get/got the recognition: such as Al Stewart for example....
A truly wonderful song. Agreed, Les` finest hour. Why oh why don`t they settle old differences and reunite under one banner. Simply BJH.That`s it, nothing else. It was never the same when Wooly left.
This is one of Les Holroyd's best songs, never given the credit it deserves. I am grateful to BJH for all the brilliant music they have produced over the years. Definitely OLDHAM's finest !
How can 'classic rock' stations play the same old songs day in day out, and NEVER play BJH? If only more people heard the genius of their first 10 albums, they'd be even more legendary... rather than only in Germany!
That is one of the songs I discovered as (dutch-speaking) Belgian (together with Titles and Rock and Roll Star), when I frequently used to listen to the radio on Mid-Wave (!)in 1976 , to the Radio Caroline-ship in Atlantic Ocean. Sincethen, BJH is still number 1 here in my heart.
Love it.Big thumbs up from me :)

Just got back from seeing John & Woolly live..did loads of great songs, it's 25 years since i last saw them..no Mel or Les, but still a great band .
robbolandsvids 2 years ago
Where did you see them ?
I saw them at Bloomsbury Theatre on 30th October and they were great. Wooley is quite a funny guy.
I previously saw them in 1987 for the face to face tour.

Great words my friend. I have many comments on here on various BJH clips saying pretty much the same as you.
It is a disgrace how they were treated in the UK.

@stimano I'm of the opinion that Smashing Pumpkins kinda already did with "33".
But you know what? If you're gonna halfway appropriate something, it might as well be good!

It would not be possible now, since Mel died, but still there is Les BJH, it's not the same but is enough to bring those memories back
