  • A Woody le habría encantado esta versión! ¡Bravo! Muy bonito.

  • Woody was saddened at the way the plains states people were treated by California. The lyrics tell of how this country is for everyone and when some are struggling the others should help; “this land was made for you and me” meaning for everyone. Many people think the words mean only for the people of the USA. That was not Woody’s intention. One reason California did not want the “Okies” is that they were willing to accept less pay just to have a job. Sound familiar?

  • Woody Guthrie wrote the english version in 1940 and it originally had a message of inclusiveness. It was inspired by the plight of “Okies,” displaced Great Plains farmers unwelcomed in California when they sought work during the 1930's Dust Bowl Depression Era. It was dramatized in the book and movie, The Grapes of Wrath. This Spanish version “Esta Tierra es Tuya” was written by Sones de Mexico Ensemble. Its norteño version remains relevant seven decades later in the debate over immigration.

  • Here I go again. I have been trying for a year, off and on, to post a comment with no success.

I am the vice president of Sones and I like this take-off. Some people may not but do far I have not heard of any.

Sones now has its version so go to Sones' videos.
