  • You should get a new calculator for recording..

  • are you still able to play games???

  • thats some olllddd ubuntu :)

  • my pc can do that better

  • i have ubuntu installed on my jtag 360 hdd! and i dont need any pc to load it!

    good old linux

  • Fuck all that loading time man

  • @kickthedamcat

its probably reading from a CD or network, what do you expect?

  • it still need the pc to run the linux through xbox? if so; this is the worse gaming in the world.

  • Does it run Desktop Effects??!! That would be cool!

  • Ok new to this what does an xbox running linux offer? does it make it basically a computer?

  • Yes, and a fast one too...................perhaps even faster than the computer you're using.

  • A desktop computer, yes.

  • yeh

  • it was started through King King (xbox game). yes you could, but it doesn't work anymore.

  • Well it does, but only on dash 4532 and 4542 (forgot what second dashboard it will work on)

  • dude, hardware hacks on games consoles as expensive as the 360 are something people will always shy away from... what if you go wrong? (it's not hard!)

  • Unfortunately this can't be done anymore since updates back in 2007 were released by Microsoft. I wish we were able to run emulators on the 360, Dreamcast would most definitely be possible, and PS2 could be possible too.

  • I NEED THE KING KONG ISO FOR THIS!!

  • no but there is xbmc, just google it

  • You forgot the period at the end of your sentence fragment Alex. Also your name is not properly capitalized.

  • don't comment on everything, like YOU do everything right >:(

  • id run it on a ps3 because i dont care if that shit breaks but not on my xbox360 elite

  • hey fucktard, a PC is needed to mod a 360

  • hey i need your help..i dont have enough money to buy a pc..so i waz wonderin if i could do the same thing as you are doing..and play PC games on STEAM such as tf2 or cs source..is it possible?cz my pc sux now..and i cant buy a new one..what i can do is buy an xbox...so please tell me if it can be done..help wil be appreciated!..thanks..

  • No, that would be excessively difficult and time consuming. Just work a few more hours for a new computer. Also steam wont run on Linux, only windows, and the 360 really isn't powerful enough as xbox games are highly optimized for the system, unlike steam games.

  • i use steam on linux -- using WINE (wine is not an emulator!)

  • But Wine only works on X86 processors, the xbox has a PowerPC CPU.

  • hey umm ive bin searchin for quite a while on how to run operating softwares on xbox..i cant buy a pc cuz i dun haf enuf cash n all i wanna do is play games on the pc..so is it possible if i can install windows xp onto the xbox 360 and then run it and then play STEAM games such as tf2 or cs source on it?i dun haf enuf cash to buy a new pc wid a kik ass graphic card so i waz wondering if THIS could be done..i would really appreciate your help!thanks

  • the xbox uses a powerpc chip - so no xp...

  • want a console tht can run linux

    simple answer... PS3

  • simple answer.....fuck the PS3

  • @ArmoredPersonel48698 yeah they removed lunix!!!!

  • @ArmoredPersonel48698 simple answer..........fuck you

  • Comment removed

  • This uses the king kong glich, this is possible, this is REAL! Check the instructions from internet and try it out yourself!

  • Trust me it works, ive seen it with my own two eyes. Ive also had Vista and XP running on my Xbox 360 - I will upload the videos to prove it.

  • That's a good trick, especially considering the Xbox 360 runs a different architecture to XP and Vista. It's based on the IBM PowerPC 970 (G5). Unfortunately, that comment is like saying "hey I installed Vista on my 3 year old Power Mac". Not that it can't be done, it can, but it can't be done natively. It would require emulation.

  • So does it require a computer to use linux on the 360?

  • no. pc games are made for x86 processors. the ps3 processor is closer to a powerpc(mac). you can't run wine either. assuming this is running on the 360.

  • sorry i have a small question.

can you still play xbox live after the instalation???

    plz answer

  • nope

  • what i have been seen in last 3 days is that sbox 360 has acout a 9.3gheart mother board and an ati video card that is almost the same as the nvidia 7500 i think.

well its completly possible to run it.

most of the problem is to install it to the xbox360

  • your such a nub =D, first off the mobo does not have a clock speed, the CPU does, & it has a 3 core 3.2GHZ powerPC chip, the GFX chip is similar to a radeon X1900XT(X?) & with 512 MB of 700mhz RAM, but you are right that it should run just about any *nix os out there. any way, do research before posting anything, K thx...

  • the problem comes with the video card =)

    couldent get it working.

  • and yep i am a noob at linux only have with it around 2 months. doing the best i can.

  • Yeah it would. I think it has the min specs for compiz does the 360s video card support.

  • do you run compiz on it.

  • Clap clap for the handy cap mate, I hope you feel real stupid! Its all over the net, and I have done it myself.

  • probabbly just changed the source to his computer really quick..my tv supports 3 components, cable, s-video and dvi and a vga cord for computer. what a moron.

  • Not fake, done by King Kong exploit. There is an entire community for xbox linux

  • thats not fake

  • There's no proof this is real. All I think he's done is set up his TV as a second screen for the laptop and set Virtual PC to run on there loading an emulated Ubuntu environment, but pardon me if I'm wrong. I'm not saying it's fake, just not enough proof that it's real.

  • Id say its real...he just exploited the King Kong game..but the ubuntu its actually on his pc..which is a bit silly really..so its not real in a way lol!

  • windows xp and vista suck!

  • xp's ok vista's horrible linux is good

  • Just because the SPEs arent processors doesnt mean they arent useful. I am speaking from experience in programming for the PS3 platform. They are virtually the only processor capable of calculating armies of AI at speeeds way faster than the game framerate. Bit of a shame the G70 wasnt a bit faster...

  • WHY DON'T WE TRY MAC!!!

  • because linux is open source and free

  • What? 3 SINGLE cores.

The memory is shared, as well.

The PS3 may have the Cell, but unless you're programming for something that can be vectored, it's not much more than a single PPC.

A 360 may have less potential power, but any PPC code that words with SMP will work fast as hell.

The PS3 is insanely powerful for things that can be vectored (ray tracing, scientific calculation) but it lacks some floating point and code must be written for it.

  • so basically you reduced the 360's usefullness by 100 percent...

  • Only if all you want to do is use Live...

  • k...please lets get something straight here... ps3 has a cell microprocessor, it has 8 cores. DEAL WITH IT

  • God I hate you uninformed dipshit fanboys.

It's ONE core with 7 SPE's. The SPE's are not truly processors; that is why the Cell is so hard to code for.

  • jesus tap dancing christ ...! linux on 360 nice lol

  • what should i get wii or xbox 360

  • heard they might make Linux work on 360 without hacks/mods

  • do you guys mind explaining what linux is

  • Thats not amazing all he did was flash his 360's firmware. Then modded disc maps on halo 2 with easy mod tools and converted it to 360 image so it could fit on a dual layer disc and burn it. Very simple

  • is very slow i don't fucking liked

  • Excuse me gayboy, ever heard of quad core? That's more than 3 shitty "cell" processors which the 360 has.

  • The XBox360 doesn't have "cell" processors. It has 3 PPC cores, each with 2 hardware threads. You don't know what you're talking about. It's the PS3 that has 9 cell processors, which is another term for DSP.

  • No he's not. The 360, until the PS3 was released, was the most powerful computer you could purchase as a consumer product. It's got 3 processors, and each has 2 hardware threads and it runs at 3.2 Ghz. You can't even get 3 core x86s, and this is effectively 6 cores. I was working on 4 core PPCs in 2000.

  • You seriously think the xbox 360 and PS3 are the most powerful computers available for consumer purchase?

    You're so wrong.

  • No I'm not. The XBox360 can push over 10 GB/s through it memory bus. Name any consumer product, including computers, that can attain that? I'm an engineer, that works on these products. I know for a fact I'm right.

  • Memory bus is not the only thing you have to take into account when making claims about the 'power' of a computer - if the xbox was really the most powerful computer available to consumers then people would be hooking them up into large arrays and making cheap supercomputers :P

  • ...actually the 360 is more powerful than any computer made. The only reason we do not hook them up is because it is really really hard to get Microsoft to let us. In the 360 is so powerful it already is running Windows 2000...modded heavily of course but it is Windows 2000.

  • than 'any computer made'.

are you seriously saying the xbox 360 is the most powerful computer ever made?

  • He's correct if you only include consumer devices. Certainly it cannot compete with supercomputers or massive Beowulf clusters. For it's price/performance ratio, absolutely nothing beats it. Not even the PS3.

  • already running on windows 2000?

    uhh dude

    were up to vista now

    kthx

  • vistas gay, so are you. kthxbye

  • i didnt say vista is cool

    i'm not gona use it

  • Es ist nicht Vista. Es ist XP Mittel-Mittelausgabe.

  • Why are you talking about Vista???

    Vista is bad!!!

It needs to much RAM!!!------>Fucking vista

  • Well, actually, I've used Vista with 256 MB RAM. They only make 512 MB the "requirement" because of the extra processes (the gadgets that run... if you run them) and MAINLY because of the Hibernate feature. And in my oppinion Vista is one of the best Windows OS's yet (especially when all the programs become more compatable, then it WILL be the best).

  • It's 3 PPC cores with 2 HW threads each. That means that you are BW limited to the memory. You can't take the XBox30 and run unsigned code on it either. It's also a game machine, which means that the same quality standards that must be met for a computer aren't being met for it. It would be too unstable to run as a supercomputer Beowulf cluster.

  • 360 can put out up to 1 TFLOP/sec. PS3 can put out up to 2. Technically they are classified as super computers for doing this. Plus 360 has 3 cores and PS3 has 9. They are far more advanced than yo mommas e-machines.

  • Why even bother. Ps3, Ps4...is leading the way for consoles to be PC alternatives especially with Linux install. I predict Sony will eventually have to move away from GameOS to its own optimized Linux distribution(eliminating the dual boot). Because if Apple jumps into consoles with OsX, then ps and xbox are screwed.

  • Not really OSX sucks huge balls hands down

  • are you people all so stupid he stored a kmc copy of linux on the disc in a r formt also in the hard drive thier for creating a all use system (NOT FULL WORKING THOU)

  • The exploit involves modifying a shader and the shaders in the king kong game are not signed (protected) so they can be modified by anyone.

  • haha owned!; )

  • i can connect my pc to the tv too... great you idiot. Nothing New!

  • is the ps3 even out yet? i havent heard anything about it ... maybe cuz no1 bought 1?..

  • How about a HowTo (I am a gUbuntu user)? Why does it take so long to load edubuntu? Cheers!

  • This is due the early test stages in the script. It actually loads from a shader system in a game. Soon enough will we load it from hardrive or ethernet connector. Then we can experience some real 360 speed :)

  • Linux is a free to use operative system. Not very like XP its way more advanced but regulare users can understand fairly easy too.

  • Do you have XP on your 360?

  • so slow lol

  • Trust me, you have Full access.

  • what is linux for?

  • Linux is an operative system.... that means we have turned the 360 to computer. Biggest advantage i have of this is the free to do whatever you want on the console... this gonna open more and more exploits since we broke the first big barrier.

  • I dont think it is fake!

  • Man if this video isn't a fake then it's awesome dude

  • Y do people leave negative comment you lot couldnt fukin do it cause you think there is nothing good that comes out of this your stupid shhhhhh derk head

  • x-box sucks man :(

  • Why

  • cuss you can do linux on other konsols without a problem to have to crack it and stuff. Microsoft is just a pile of shit trying to controll stuff they sell :(

  • You obvious dont know what you are talking about... they NEED to have security on the box either they want or not. Otherwise the game producers wont release anything to the console.

  • That's right Adamstube. Just hear what Helliano's saying he's a wise man

  • I guess he is right! The thing im comparing to is like the PS3, that is very simple installing linux on!

  • Right but you can't use the PS3 with its full Hardware (e.g not all of the cores are enabled)!

  • Aye Listen on boorok. Who want a limited Linux when you can have a full linux?

  • And how do you know you will have full access on the Xbox360? I didn't see anything in this video that could proof it. And btw.: Gametrailers had an interview (about two weeks ago) with one of the creators of Yellow Dog Linux for the PS3 and this guy said, that they are working right now on the full RSX access.

  • We already have full access to all the cores, im very in to the scene so i know because i have this software myself. And no they wont make a non-limited release to PS3 because that is against the law... they gotta call it Computer package instead of gaming console. And however opening linux will make more parts of the PS3 exploitable and that cant sony handling (with the loss they have already made on the console)

  • Look. Microsoft wouldn't be able to even make the XBox is it wasn't for the security. They poured a LOT of money into the machine. It's extremely powerful. They have to protect their investment. They don't make money selling the boxes. Sony doesn't either - they make it by licensing. The 360 wouldn't exist if Microsoft couldn't do this.

  • what an intelligent comment

  • English isn't his first language. He's sweedish, which means he probably knows at least 3 languages.

  • just to answer to those hwo is asking why he need a computer, the xbox is hacked through the serial port on the xbox, so it is connected to the pc through the serial port

  • Yeah, it appeared like the XBox was simply acting like a host for a PC terminal. What good is that - really? Even the Gentoo Linux hack for the original XBox was very slow running and really not worth it. It would be different if you could get the 360 to dual boot and run either Linux or XBox 360 software, but you know Micro$oft would do their best to break your box if you ever went on XBox Live and they snooped your drive contents.

  • No, they couldn't if you install Linux on an external USB HDD. You could plug off everytime you want to play over Xbox Live

  • True, but you do so at the expense of I/O throughput between the processor & hard drive. You can get better performance out of a cheap PC.

Is there currently a solution where the XBox has access to various USB peripherals (Mouse, Keyboard, Scanner, Printer, etc.)

I seriously doubt XBox Linux is currently practical vs conceptual, where it seems to be right now.

  • simple and good idea ; )

  • balls

  • dude, go suck your Mom's balls!

  • why do you need a pc?

  • If this isn't a hoax, it's awesome. Knew it would come one day!

  • I am contemplating buying a 360 if stuff like this takes off.

    :D :D :D

  • NICE =] =]

  • amazing but how is he controlling the 360 through his computer?

  • that cant be a live cd if theres an account, it has to be an installation

  • Live cd's do have an account. Alot of times it is "root" and "toor"

  • true, but ubuntu is not one of them, it randomizes a password on first boot and auto logs in

  • wow

  • awesome dude
