how long ago was this, because the engines looks like they replaced it with new versions, i know this is the 747 200 but did Alitalia replace the engines?
@huhuboyd123 they are the originals, only two Alitalia 747s had different engines (Pratt & Whitney's) and they were the 1st two ships delivered. All the rest were delivered with these GE variants.

In a future video (to be released) I will show a clip of Alitalia's 1st 747 (with the 3-window) upper deck design which predates these models seen here.

@Emirates62 thank you, but I've already seen videos with the owners name in the corner..and they were still stolen, the thieves simply crop the bottom or the top (and can do the sides if they want - and 'poof'...there's no signature or trademark on your video. My way, as annoying as it may seem to some...is a huge deterrent to video theft. If I shot reguraly crappy video..I would not care. But I've spent a lot of my time and money to get to places and shoot these videos..they will be protected.
@Emirates62 not for your common video thief, to remove a logo-watermark esp. a moving one (or one that moves). for the most part it's too much work and effort to remove that and most theives don't have that kind of patience. To the one thief who did still one of my clips -- my name is still right in the middle of it..regardless of how hard he tried to remove it. Anything is possible, I'm just not making it easy.

yes i also miss this plane i never got a chance to fly on it....and now the MD 11 is only cargo soo but i flew on that a few times i miss that plane as well now all there is..is the 777 which is nice..but its seems like alitalia is getting rid of all the good planes i cant even fly the MD 80 into palermo anymore and that was my favorite plane of them all

a few 747-100s operate as freighters, even more 747-200s are doing so. And as 747-400s retire...you guessed it! They are being converted into freighters!
in this horrible economy...that's a really difficult question to answer, However, in a more normal humming economy, I'd have to say freight is a bit more profitable if you're in the right markets.
The biggest mistake Alitalia ever did was to sell all of its 747 fleet after 9/11 !!! The 747 Alitalia was one of the most beautiful classic designsever. Thanks for the video.
the 747 on the Alitalia was way outdated, maybe they should've ordered both 777 and newer 747's, they initially ordered new 747's but then the KLM deal fell through in 2000 that led to order of the 777's

747-100: Not flying anymore (I think), but this has a short upper deck.
747-200: Short upper deck with 10 windows in the upper deck (like in this video). Today, this plane is uncommon to see.
747SP: Long range version, has a short fuselage, short upper deck. Very, very rare, only 35 (?) were built, and only a few still operate.
747-300: Long upper deck with a door in it as well.
747-400: Also long upper deck with a door, but the -400 has winglets on its wingtips. Most common :)

747SP- Very short fuselage and short upper deck
747-100- Most models have the antennas on the end of the wings, and has a short upper deck
747-200- All models have antennas on the end of the wings, and had short upper deck with 10 windows
747-300- A long upper deck with flat wing ( no antennas or winglets)
747-400 This obviously has a stretched upper deck and winglets on the end

If you mean the spikes that stick out of the trailing edge of the wing tips, they are fuel jettison nozzles, not antennas.
