  • I also like to use complex percussion lops as single 'notes' playing back a melody, creating brilliant mayhem to (hopefully) grow a musical pearl around.

    As far as drawing and painting, I too am the overpainter type. If nothing else, it'll rid you of blank page syndrome!

  • Many thanks for this one and I can absolutely second this. I apply this technique in all arts I dabble in (drawing, digital painting, music). There's nothing quite like randomness to kick off an idea.

    Since you've asked about other mediums – I sometimes will record crappy/nonsensical performance, then sample it and use it as a loop. Little if anything of the original material will make it into the final mix but it definitely informs the result.
