Oh god, the right hand is annoying the balls out of me. It has to be fluid, not stiff like it is. Watch her videos now (she's over 30s years old today), she corrected this. She's using way too much forearm work that she needs to. A lot of the sound actually should come from the wrist and thumb/first finger.
After watching such a miracle such as this, how can anyone honestly say that there is no God, that he did not have a hand in this genius performance!! Open your eyes and behold his blessing to us in this talent! :]
Chill out about her tempo. It's her own way to play. Just because most pople play it slow, doesn't mean it's right. She has a very close contect to the music in my opinion
Oh come on, 4 stars? She's 13, she is not afraid of performing in public and the peice is very complicated. She got everything right. I don't think counting imperfections is professional. Just look at her. She's a miracle <3
I've been watching some child prodigy violinists on youtube this evening, and most of them are technically very good, but few of them seem to grasp the feel of the music in the right manner at such a young age. Leila sure does very well.
the introducer is correct - technique and interpretive skills far exceed her yrs she plays brillaintly here. i love her power and passion and this has only improved w the succeeding yrs
I have watched quite a few of the recommended other versions of this piece and still think this is the best. It astounds me that anyone can find fault in any way with this. If you play violin you will never be this good so get over it.
A reincarnation of Heifetz even in the way she plays. Eyes riveted on the fingerboard and the bow technique too. Looks like the hand of Heifetz playing, You can check this on old Heifetz film
WAY too fast in my opinion. Her playing is solid no doubt, but there's so many beautiful harmonies in this piece that beg to be milked (for lack of a better word).
I dont get all the people critisising her. Her interpretation was so much better than for instance Friedman's. Although I feel that this would sound even better with piano rather than orchestra.
I don't understand how you could listen to a13 year old give a performance like that, then turn around and instantly critisize. I don't know you personally, but I'd bet money that you can't do anything as well as she plays this piece, at 13 or any age.
I think this clip is amazing. I have heard many young violinists and would be prodigies both live and on Youtube. In my opinion this performance ranks with anything I have ever seen or heard. Her raw emotion is quite moving and genuine. Moreover, the fact that she can communicate all of that emotion and stay in perfect tune throughout elevates this performance to exquisite! Bravo!
shes a pro now- just saw her perform the bruch concerto w/the minnesota orchestra at orchestra hall a few days ago, wOw i had no idea her talent started at such a young age o.O ...but thats to be expected :)
Yes, she's supposedly is amazing. I just have to say that I definitely do not enjoy her performance of the Bruch. It is too aggressive. And she said she treated it as a 21st century piece... ew. And she said she never listens to other violinist's inerpretations... :P which is kind of conceited and ridiculous.
...i feel kind of bad about posting something mean on here, so i deleted my comment. i just wish folks would lighten up. it also pisses me off when youtubers comment on concert violinists or prodigies when it's very doubtful they possess the tact or talent on the violin. i understand that much. to my credit, all i said is she looks like the bionic wonder swiveling around like that. if anything i DO think the video might be flawed, but the sound is fine. and no, i cannot play the violin like her
screw you man just because you probably suck at this piece that doesn't mean other pople who is better than you is all fake you know. This is perfectly nothing wrong ok???!!!
Wow, really amazing for her age, no question about that! However, I feel that her style of playing is a bit "heavy": maybe too dominated by forceful and dramatic emotions. She could hold back a bit in some parts and be "lighter". I know this is a dramatic piece, but I heard the same in other pieces she plays.
Gets me teary-eyed. This piece can make you cry. It was my dream to play this when I was young, but I couldn't finish going through the piece. Thanks!
where do I get the orchestra music for this piece?

We fiddlers lots of times tune a hair sharp
so that the constant pressure on the strings
doesn't draw them too flat in the course of
the playing.
